Your Weekly Boost: How Singing Heals Your Mind, Body and Spirit

Start Monday with Your Weekly Boost: Living Life in Full Bloom 🌸my free weekly Newsletter.

Happy Monday! It’s time for Your Weekly Boost and this week I want to share an experience from last week which brought joy and also made me think.

Last week I wrote about The Power in Being You. So many hours and effort wasted in youth worrying and striving for perfection – it was exhausting. Now at almost 68, I would tell my ‘younger self’ –

You are enough and your power is simply being you.

My youngest son is a musician and used to have quite the recording studio. He still has the equipment, but since he’s gained a “family,” he had to move things around. He was recording a new album and wanted me to come and sing on it. Well, I can’t read music. I have to use those little mneumonics for the notes, but I’d not recognize them as those notes anyway. But, I can read it well enough to get the beat. I was nervous, and he told me, “Mom, I’ve heard you belting out the songs at church, singing the liturgy, so I know you can sing.” That helped a lot. And, it ended up being great fun. I love to sing and do it in the car all the time. I remember when Mike and I were first dating, I was too shy to sing around him. Now, I sing along with whatever song happens to be on (and if I know the words). Music is such an important part of our lives. I’ve read other studies about music with people with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s. Thanks for the spark, Sue!
