It’s time for a cuppa and a catch up to chat about What’s Been On Your Calendar? during April. I love reading everyone’s post in the #WBOYC linkup and it is so lovely to have you join Debbie, Donna ,Jo and myself to share what you’ve been up to during the month.
What’s Been On My Calendar in April?
April was busy but I did manage to relax over the Easter break as my family were away. We looked after Wallis the Pooch my daughter’s dog and she was a delight to have as a house guest. Kitchen renovations continued and our new backsplash will be fitted today so missed the WBOYC post for this month.
Making TIME for Celebration – a 25th Wedding anniversary
Mike and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We have been together for 30 years, although it took Mike 5 years to propose – perhaps he wanted to know what he was letting himself in for LOL:) . As we have a lot going on with renovations etc., we will celebrate when we go on our cruise in June. We did have some delicious Lindor chocolates in a Silver Box for our Silver Anniversary and shared a Banoffee Pie for dessert.

Making TIME to remember…..those who have served our country during war, conflicts and peacekeeping operations – ANZAC Day
25th April is ANZAC Day a National Day of Remembrance in Australia & New Zealand to remember those “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.[3][4] Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally devised to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914–1918).
Recently, the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, apologised to all Vietnam Veterans for the poor treatment and lack of acknowledgement they received as he marked the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s role in the war. This is long overdue my husband is a Vietnam Vet (not something he likes to talk about) and they certainly deserved the apology. I remember being in high school and the protests against the war. Those called up for National Service returned not to a hero’s welcome but were treated badly even by the RSL. You can read more about it here : ‘We are so sorry’: PM apologises to Vietnam veterans
My daughter, running friend and I participated in the Run Army on the 23rd. It was our second run event for the year as we head towards our half-marathon in June. You can read about the Run Army in my previous post

Spending TIME In the Kitchen
April in the kitchen saw another Home Restaurant Date Night as well as other cooking including our Book Club Baking and the Confidential Cook Book Club Review of the Moosewood Cookbook.
We purchased a pasta maker and made home made ravioli which was fun and something I always wanted to try.
On the menu for April:
- Home made Crab Ravioli – recipe coming soon
- Zucchinni Slice
- Nigella’s Ginger & Walnut Carrot Cake (minus the icing)
- Easy Muesli Slice
- Stuffed Eggplant with Rosemary & Olive Foccacia
- Chicken and Sweet Corn Chowder – recipe coming soon

The Women Living Well After 50 Podcast Season 5
The podcast continues to grow and I am now booked with interviews until mid August! It means that I will be moving to weekly releases rather than fortnightly for the moment.
I love interviewing my guests who all bring inspiration by sharing their stories. Episodes 6 & 7 of Season 5 of the WLWA50 Podcast were released during April. In Episode 6, I had the pleasure of chatting with another two inspirational women who are all sharing their knowledge to help Women Over 50 Live Well. I was delighted to meet and chat with Kate Christie, author of 5 books including her latest The Life List: Master Every Moment and Live an Audacious Life and time management expert. I also met Tracy McCubbin from dClutterfly and we talked about Making Space for Happiness through decluttering not just physically but mentally and why having lots of things won’t make you happy. You can catch the podcast through the link in the image below, on Youtube or on major platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music.

Link ups I’ve participated in during April included:

The 52 Book Club Reading challenge
I made time for reading again this month and you can catch up on my progress and reviews in my What’s On Your Bookshelf April edition post. I think this graphic is pretty cool as I can update it when I’ve read a book using one of the prompts and it shows my progress. It also helps me to remember what books I’ve read!

Hi Sue, what a great month you’e had with renovations, dog-sitting, reading, running, blogging, interviewing, cooking, and celebrating your 25th wedding anniversary!! How positive and inspiring you are with what you manage spend your TIME doing. I always enjoy these wrap-up posts as they show what a diverse group we are and how we are rocking this next phase of our lives. Go you!!
Hi Sue – many congratulations on your anniversary and also your running achievements. You seem very busy with your podcast and renovations and have still fitted in date nights! Your ravioli looks very yummy 😋 thanks for sharing your month
Hi Janine, thank you for your good wishes and yes, life is full at the moment. I need to practise my presentation skills with the ravioli but it tasted so good. x
Hi Deb, yes another full month and May is looking even busier. Bring on the cruise in June! Thank you for your lovely words and I think I chose a great WOTY (easy to write about too.) xx
Hi Sue – well it’s been another very full month for you – both IRL and on the blog. Great to see all your happy photos and even a couple of doggie smiles to round things out. Congrats again on your run and placing second – such a great achievement.
It certainly has been a full month, Leanne and May is shaping up to be busy as well. We are off on a cruise in June for 10 days so looking forward to a rest. x
Thanks so much Sue for sharing my blog’s link up as part of your April. Your daughter’s dog is one cutie. I am ‘glad’ that you have shared what it the true and often awful effect on those who fought for our country as you have with reference to M, and to “that” war in the late 1960s and early 70s. Cute story about Mike and proposing!! I can see how much you are enjoying your kitchen and cooking too, and big congrats on the podcasts and your range of guests. Thank you for the link up.
Denyse
Hi Denyse, I always like to support other blog link ups so yours is a permanent fixture in my monthly wrap up. Lots going on in my world but it is all good so I’m not complaining xx
Hi Sue I’m in catch up mode after having tlme out for the past few weeks. You’ve had a busy month. I don’t eat pasta but cook it for my partner and have always thought I’d like to try making my own. I’ll definitely be trying Nigella’s carrot cake. Without the icing for me too
Hi Jen, you’ve been busy with AtoZ. Nigella’s carrot cake is a must try and I’ve made it twice now. Mike loves it. x
Congrats on your wedding anniversary and Run Army achievement. You must be counting down to that cruise! x
I am in countdown mode, Gail, bring on June! x
Hi Sue, I love the photos of you guys through the years. Congratulations on your anniversary, 2nd place finish and successful Pod Casts. Looks like April was a healthy and well-balanced month.
Thank you Suzanne, it is nice to look back over the time although I have so many photos of us on trips to select from. April was a good month and May looks busy but we are going on a cruise June 7 so can rest and relax then. x
Hi Sue, you have been very busy and sharing with us so much wonderful information for “women over 50”. Thanks.
Thank you for your lovely comment, Bernadette. April was busy but I do always enjoy sharing ways we can all live well and enjoy life. x
Hi Sue, It’s great to catch up with you via the monthly #WBOYC linkup. What a full and productive April you’ve had. Happy anniversary to you and Mike, and congratulations on your run achievement! Have a wonderful May!
Hi Natalie, lovely to hear from you and the #WBOYC link up always reminds me how the months are flying! x
Happy Anniversary! And congrats on the continuing success of your podcast! Sounds like you had a great month.
Hi Janet, thank you for your good wishes and I’m really enjoying the Podcast. April was a fun month and May is looking busy, so bring on June when we are going on a cruise. x
Congrats on your 25th anniversary! And congrats on your second place finish on the run. So impress! Ugh. I am sorry to hear that Vietnam Vets in Australia suffered the same fate as those here in the United States. I am glad the government apologized.
Thank you Michelle for your good wishes. Yes the Vietnam Vets had a dreadful time and it has taken 50 years or the apology to come from the Government. xx
That looks like a delicious month! Happy Anniversary! My husband and I dated for along time before getting engaged too… but we started dating at 16 so that was pretty necessary. LOL. Congrats on finishing your race.
Hi Joanne, it is ‘second time around’ for Mike and I so we wanted to make sure that it would be the last time. How lovely that you and your husband are childhood sweethearts – very special. xx
I’m sure I wished you a Happy Anniversary on FB, Sue but if not…Happy 25th! A milestone indeed. Your grand dog is sure a cutie! You had quite the April with your anniversary, years of podcasts, and all your amazing running events. Your are truly inspiration to women over 60! Thanks for hosting WBOYC!
You did, Terri and thank you again for your good wishes. Wallis the pooch is really cute although she is 11 now so getting a little slower. So pleased you could join us for WBOYC and thank you for your lovely comment, I try to inspire others when I can. xx
Happy anniversary Sue! Congratulations on 25 years of marriage. Larry and I are coming up on 25 years as well (next January), and, like you, it is the second marriage for both of us. It sounds like we both learned from Round 1. I found it interesting to learn that Australia had a similar negative reaction to Vietnam veterans as the USA. I can’t imagine going through combat and than returning home to that kind of treatment. Apologies are well deserved.
Hi Christie, yes we certainly got it right second time around 🙂 Mike and other Veterans have suffered in silence for many years. The negative reaction was not what they expected given that the choice, if called up was to go or go to jail. I didn’t realise the US veterans were treated the same way. I’m reading more about the Vietnam War now as Mike doesn’t really talk about it much but I want to be informed. x
