#wellnessreimagined – My Health & Wellness Intentions for 2025

Wellness Reimagined link up

Welcome to my first Wellness Reimagined post for our brand new #WellnessReimagined link up.

During the last few days of 2024, I started seriously thinking about my intentions for 2025 which is my annual ritual. In particular my health and wellness goals. At 67 I need to prioritize my health and wellness in a holistic way. That means taking care of my physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing so I can enjoy life and be healthy enough to participate in life and playing football with my grandsons. I want to travel and explore the world with my darling which means taking care of my health and keeping my body strong to allow me to do this.

Wellness Reimagined also aligns perfectly with my WOTY 2025 – Bloom. To me, Wellness Reimagined is more than just exercise. I want to continue embracing a life of self-discovery, where my health, happiness, and personal growth are prioritized.

It’s about redefining strength, beauty, and fulfillment on our own terms, and thriving in every stage of life.”

3 Daily Wins to aim for

I saw this on Onepercent on Substack and it reinforced my own belief that health and wellness should be holistic incorporating mind, body and spirit. For overall health and well being we need to have goals based around these three areas.

  • A physical win – walking, running, swimming, working out, skipping, dancing
  • A mental win – reading, writing, creative learning, crossword puzzles, word games
  • A spiritual win – praying, meditating, studying, growing, blooming

My Health & Wellness Goals for 2025

Based on the 3 daily wins principle I’ve divided my health and wellness goals into the three categories. Some may overlap as they help two or more categories.

Physical Health

  • Strength sessions (online) – 3 weekly with regular reviews to monitor progress
  • Running – 2 -3 weekly including 1 long Saturday run and two short runs
  • Daily walk on days I don’t run
  • Achieve at least 10,000 steps six days a week
  • Stretching Daily
  • Enter at least one half marathon event (21.1km) and the traditional Mother’s Day Classic which I run with my daughter
  • Try a new exercise or workout routine or activity – at least once per month
  • Regular monthly physio visits for massage
  • Have regular health checks as they come due – I’ve listed them in my Health & Wellness diary – Mammogram & Colonoscopy are top of my list as well as dentist, optometrist and cardiologist.
  • Improve Hydration habit by drinking at least 2-3L water daily
  • Try at least one new healthy recipe each week – Mike and I follow a combination of a Mediterranean diet with a Type 2 Diabetes diet. It can be easy to fall into a rut so trying at least one new recipe a week should help.
  • Ensure adequate protein – daily protein shake to top up my protein intake. According to this Protein Calculator a woman of my age, height, weight requires 49-88gms protein per day based on my activity level.

Mental Health

  • Daily exercise helps both mental and physical health
  • Address issues as they arise rather than letting things build up inside
  • Complete daily crossword
  • Maintain my social connections with family, friends, online friends, Probus group
  • Regular ‘time out’ breaks to reset and reinvigorate
  • Travel – short and long term travel breaks
  • Continue working as Group Fitness Instructor and P.T. helping other women over 50 stay active and healthy. This brings me great joy and satisfaction
  • Continue heading up the WLWA50 30-minute Daily Exercise Challenge Group in Facebook

Spiritual Health

  • Being mindful and aware rather than rushing through – taking time to focus on what I’m doing at that moment
  • Taking 5 minutes each evening to pause and reflect
  • Take at least two mindfulness walks rather than power walks each week
  • Rest & Recovery day – 1 per week and listening to my body when it needs a break
  • Yoga – 1 per week at least – mind, body and spirit

How my year has started – the first two weeks

Early days but I’m on track and feeling motivated. My learning from the last few days is that when you aren’t feeling well you really need to take time out to rest and recover.

  • Completed 3 strength sessions including 1 body pump online which I’ve never done before.
  • I started my health and wellness planning and diary and wrote about it in my post Living well in 2025 by planning a healthy & active lifestyle
  • Walked daily for at least 30 minutes
  • Achieved 3 long runs with my running buddy including a couple with my daughter which is always a treat for me.
  • Clean eating again after the treats of the Festive Season – ensuring I get my daily protein intake

Thanks Donna for your kind words and I’m finding motivation and inspiration from the group. I’m happy I set it up and I’m not concerned about how many members because we have our core group who share regularly. I’m glad you are back after your Social Media break. x

Your year has started out very strong! I have also started the year with cleaner eating, I’m a newbie so it’s gonna take me a bit to figure it all out. I’ve also added intermittent fasting because I could eat all day & night without even thinking! This helps me ‘close the kitchen’ in my mind 🙂

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 13, 2025 at 13:05

Oh I love the idea of ‘close the kitchen’ mindset. I’ve not done intermittent fasting but there are many who find this very helpful in maintaining a healthy weight. I’m sure you will learn and find things that will help as well as other learnings which may not work for you. I’m pleased you’ve joined our monthly link up. x

These are great rounded goals to take into 2025 Sue. Iove the 3 daily wins concept. Your post is very inspiring.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 13, 2025 at 13:05

Thanks, Jen, I like the 3 daily wins concept too. x

Great goals to take into this year. I love yours is about mixing things up a bit and trying new things. As you know I love trying new recipes and aim for at least one new healthy recipe for our evening meals – the trick though (for us) is to find recipes that are accidentally healthy and full of flavour & the Med principles are perfect for that.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 13, 2025 at 13:07

Hi Jo, it is easy for me to get into a rut with exercising so I want to expand my horizons if I can. The Mediterranean diet works for us and there are so many recipes out there that taste good and are healthy for us which is a win/win. I always look forward to reading what you’ve cooked. I like the Leek, Pea and Feta recipe you’ve shared in your Excess Baggage post today. I will be trying that one for sure. x

It is so wonderful that you have set yourself some goals for this year Sue. I always admire your strength and tenacity. I am setting off with a new mindset for 2025 and an intention to get my cholesterol level down by embarking on a Mediterranean diet and also taking up tennis for fitness and the social aspect. I’m looking forward to the year ahead.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 13, 2025 at 13:09

Hi Kathy, I’ve always set goals and think it is ingrained in me now. I’ll be 68 this year and I find that goals give me a purpose. We follow a Mediterranean diet as both of us have heart issues and Mike has Type 2 Diabetes. I’m sure you will enjoy tennis for fitness and the social aspect. Perhaps you were inspired by the Brisbane International??? Have a lovely week and thanks for joining us for #WellnessReimagined. x

Always enjoy seeing photos of your run with your daughter or the Saturday Sisters. I miss running. Hope I can get back to jogging this year.
I like the mental exercises you mentioned like the crossword. We do Wordle and some of the other online NYTimes games. And I continue studying Spanish on Duolingo. So important for us to keep our minds sharp…big job for me!!
We are back to the gym and weight training. Looking forward to following along with you and the gals as you focus on wellness this year. You are always an inspiration to all of us, Sue.

Yes, I don’t often get to run with Rachel so when I do it is a treat. You will get back on top just don’t push yourself after your injury, Leslie. You still have your beautiful smile! x

I love the idea of those 3 daily wins, since they put a focus on all these important areas of wellness. I’ve focused a lot on physical fitness in recent years but not so much on mental or spiritual health, until very recently after some hard times that forced me to rethink that. If my body feels good, my mental health will be decent, but there’s so much more to it! I now have some new morning (and overall) habits that will help.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 14, 2025 at 11:04

Hi Susanne, I love the 3 daily wins because it aligns so well with my thoughts on health and wellbeing. x

  • Reply Janine January 13, 2025 at 19:35

Oh wow Sue – you have got a very comprehensive and holistic plan. You’ve reminded me I need to incorporate some spiritual and mental goals for the year ahead. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 14, 2025 at 11:05

Hi Janine, I truly believe we aren’t 100% healthy if we aren’t aligned with the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives. x

  • Reply Debbie January 14, 2025 at 10:37

What a fabulously inspiring post Sue. You have started the year with great goals, and I know you will stick with them during the year. You are a role model for midlife women everywhere and share so generously with others. The 3 daily wins are a good way of looking at each day and I’ve passed them onto one of my daughters who needs encouragement. I hope you’re feeling better now after being a bit under the weather. Thanks for the group and the idea of the linkup, we can certainly inspire and encourage others in these areas just by sharing what we are aiming to do. x
