Wellness Warriors make Strong Healthy Women

If you read my blog regularly and have participated in #ActiveApril you would have heard about Strong Healthy Women under the direction of Peta Gillian.  Today, I’m introducing three lovely ladies who are ‘Wellness Warriors’.   I asked each of them what being a ‘Wellness Warrior’ meant to them and you can read their responses below.

I love that these ladies have come to Fitness and Healthy lifestyles during Midlife and are great ambassadors for showing that it is never too late to start.

When I attended the SHW class I felt immediately comfortable and everyone was so welcoming. Julie Anne was my ‘buddy’ and looked after me during the session.  I love the idea of a ‘buddy’ system because it can be daunting walking into a new group and not really knowing how it all works.

What does being a Wellness Warrior mean to you?


To live the healthiest and best life I can through exercise, healthy eating and healthy mind. To be a positive role model for family and others. To be part of a very supportive community and embrace all that life has to offer.

Being a Wellness Warrior means that I am living the best life I can by continuing with my healthy journey. That means I make the right choices for myself regarding my eating and exercise habits. Not only supporting myself, family and friends but our wonderful community of like minded ladies. I enjoy sharing my story with new SHW members to encourage them to make changes to their lives also.


Being a warrior is someone who is prepared to train, practice and fight for what they believe in , protect and enable others to be free and safe. As a Wellness Warrior I am training to be the best version of me through exercise , lifestyle change healthy food choices and association of like minded people. I have to fight against negativity of others and my own self to become better . As a warrior is not about self but about protecting /defending others: I want my journey to be an example of possibilities, to enable and strengthening others, to walk alongside others to encourage

Why I love the Strong Healthy Women program

Firstly, although I love to promote SHW, I am not affiliated with them or receive any payment for my opinion.

When I met Peta and her SHW program, I knew I had found someone who was living my dream and who had the same philosophies and passion, as I do, about the importance of keeping fit and active Over 50.

In another life I was a ballet teacher and worked with not only young but mature ladies who wanted to keep fit through tap dancing classes. When I was introduced to the world of fitness again at 50, I would have loved to have been a personal trainer or group fitness instructor and that is what I mean when I say Peta is ‘living my dream’.

I live too far to attend SHW classes however that doesn’t stop me having access to the SHW program. I subscribe monthly and receive weekly Video Workouts plus additional newsletters and access to a private Facebook Group. Peta is always there motivating us even if we don’t attend in person and certainly keeps us accountable.

Strong Healthy Women was a recent finalist in the 2019 Australian Fitness Awards and Peta’s philosophy is not just about getting active but also connecting with others and building a community. Each quarter she holds FREE Ageless Confidence Sessions where you can:

  • Turn your negatives into positives

      Exactly Rosalind! I love seeing Women Over 50 starting to live a healthier and happier life. I started my re-entry to fitness when I was 50 and I’ve never looked back. x

      The ladies are lovely Erica and yes, very inspirational. They each have back stories about their fitness which motivate me as well. Thank you for your lovely words at the end of your comment. You have made my day. Sometimes we all wonder if we are making a difference of if we should bother and then an encouraging or appreciative comment comes through and it just makes everything worthwhile.       Hi Donna, these three ladies are just a snippet of the wonderful community of women, Peta has formed at Strong Healthy Women. I’m part of her online community but I have to admit I really enjoyed doing the workouts the day I attended her class. It is too far from where I live now but the women were just fabulous and so welcoming. xx

    I love how supportive you are of other Midlife women and encouraging physical and mental fitness Sue. This is such an important area and I think having you on board with it makes it even more special – I love the idea of wellness warriors – strong, healthy Midlife women who are rocking it!

      Hi Leanne, I suppose I just want to show that we can do and achieve our goals. We don’t have to be superstars, because we are superstars in our own right. I love promoting other women Over 50 and one of the reasons is because they inspire and motivate me to keep going. xx

    You know I have been physically active my whole life! I love to see programs like this to encourage all women to get up and do more for their fitness. Our gym has some good group classes for older women and even a trainer who is in her 60s. Thanks for sharing this good news, Sue!

      SHW is a wonderful program Terri and I’m enjoying joining in even if it is online. I did manage to make it to one class (too far from where I live to attend regularly) and I just loved it. I remember teaching tap dancing to the Mums when I had my dance studio many years ago. They loved it and we always had a few laughs as well as keeping them fit. x
