Weekend Coffee Share #14

Phew! What a week. Most of my weeks are full although I do try to ensure there are some hours each day where I can relax and read a book. This has not been one of those weeks but at least I’m ticking off my diary list and feeling that although it has been hectic I’m feeling good which is the main thing.

It’s lovely to receive a surprise in the mail

Weekend Coffee Share #14

Never underestimate the value of sending a note in the mail. I was delighted to receive this beautiful card with a thoughtful message and some inspirational words as well. Surprises can lift your mood and let you know someone is thinking of you. Is there someone you know who could benefit from a surprise in the mail?

What I did to stay healthy, happy and living well

On track for the half marathon

One of my Saturday Sisters and I have entered the first run of the year – The Brisbane Half Marathon on 6th June. Last week we clocked up 19.35kms so on track for the 21.1km Half. We always enjoy a lovely breakfast afterwards and catch up over a coffee.

Continued Learning

An important part of my Health & Wellness is continued learning. Exercising our brain is important. It stimulates chemicals that improve your mood and the parts of the brain responsible for memory and learning. Last week I mentioned I started my Cert IV Fitness and this week I’ve added a couple of short courses.

I’ve started a Photography Editing Course

I’m usually a ‘point and shoot’ photographer – apologies to all you photographers out there! Anyway, my weekly Women’s Circle has organised a Photography Editing Course. It is a 4-week course with the lovely Debbie Flynn and after Lesson 1, I’m feeling very excited to keep learning.

Would you believe I even took a photo yesterday and actually made sure the horizon was straight? I told you my photography skills leave a lot to be desired. We had to present one photo and then Debbie gave some ideas and a critique for improving. It is using my I-phone and here is the photo from my first lesson – before and after. Now I know what all those editing buttons are for LOL 🙂

Here is another attempt at capturing the cloud formation which was hanging low over the ocean.

Do you know your First Aid and CPR?

It was time for my annual CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation renewal so took time out to attend a First Aid class and testing. It is amazing how COVID has changed so many areas of life. During the CPR test we could only do the compressions without the 2 breaths.

Basic first aid and CPR is something we should all have an understanding of although did you know that you don’t have to help someone? Morally I would think we all would want to assist where we can, however there is no legal obligation.

FastFIT in Strong Healthy Women

Over in the Strong Healthy Women VIrtual Studio we have introduced two FastFIT sessions per week. These are only 10 minutes but are designed to get our hearts (the biggest muscle in the body) pumping! This week I chose Boxing as my theme and so did Peta, the CEO of Strong Healthy Women – great minds. Here is a snippet of what I did…..

In the Kitchen

I’ve fallen in love again with baking and cooking but with a healthy twist where possible. I made some Blueberry Muffins and also these delicious savoury Sweet Potato Muffins with cheese from the Super Food cookbook by Jamie Oliver. I had to make a couple of adjustments as I didn’t have all the ingredients but it is fun to take a recipe and make it your own.

The latest on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast – Micro Mondays

Mental well-being is as important as physical and spiritual well-being. This week I continued the Mental Well-being theme and discussed ‘Understanding the 4 main components of Mental Well-being’ click on the link to read more or…..

Take a listen to the podcast which also includes the weekly guided meditation to reset for the week.

Thanks to Natalie from Natalie the Explorer who started this idea earlier in the year. I link up each week with my contribution to her #WeekendCoffeeShare. It is a great way to record what happens in life, like a diary or journal really and to reflect and be grateful for the good things that happen in my life.

Well that was my week and I hope you enjoyed taking a peek into my life. How was your week? I’d love you to share with me what you have been up to.

Hello Sue! It’s been a while, and it was great to catch up with what you’ve been doing. Good luck on your half-marathon! And nice work on your photo editing. My novice opinion is that they look beautiful. I just love clouds…especially over the ocean! As for me, we finished our landscaping in sunny Southern Utah and used the swimming pool for the first time. Also, I’ve been contemplating a walk on a Camino de Santiago trail, so I’ve been researching that and convincing myself that I could do it. Wishing you a lovely week!

Hi Christie, lovely to hear from you and yes I love clouds too! I’ve been seeing your new home and landscaping and I hope you have settled in well. I also saw that you were hiking again and appreciate the scenery in your photos. Have a lovely week and take care xx

Hi Sue, Well done with your half marathon preparation and continued learning! The muffins look yummy. Boxing is an excellent way to stay fit. Thank you for linking up with #WeekendCoffeeShare. Have a beautiful week!

Hi, Sue – You are always an inspiration. Half-Marathon Training, Photo Editing Course, CPR/First Aid Training, Fitness Trainer, Baking, Cooking, Blogging, Grandparenting…and so much more that you did not mention!! This is truly impressive. 😀

Hi Donna you inspire me with your zest for living and trying new things. You pack a lot into your week as well! Isn’t it great? x

Hi Sue, you made an interesting point about not having to assist someone who needs resuscitating. I think it’s morally the right thing to do too, especially if you are trained. Too many people are worried about litigation these days. I’ve helped many times, the scariest one being my own son who was choking on a gumball lolly. If I wasn’t there he probably would have died because his airway was completely occluded. I think everyone should know basic lifesaving skills. Regards Christina

To see your son in that situation must have been very frightening for you Christina. He is lucky to have a Mum who is a nurse but you are right we should all have some basic First Aid training. x

Hi Sue – you’re certainly powering along with all your courses and learning – and well done on that Saturday run – you’re definitely ready for the half marathon. I’ve been quite busy this week – but mainly on the social side of things – lots of unexpected catch-ups with people I hadn’t seen for a while – I feel quite talked out (unusual for me!) so I think next week might be a quieter one – got to get some more handlettering practice in – your photo editing seems to be going really well.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric May 24, 2021 at 05:33

Hi Leanne, your week sounds lovely with unexpected catch-ups (to me they are the best because there is no planning). Like you I enjoy catch ups but then I also enjoy my time on my own at home. I’m interested in your handlettering which sounds quite relaxing but creative. I’m really enjoying the photo challenge because it has made me stop and think before I take a photo. I’ve finally found out what all the settings are in the camera on my iphone LOL 🙂 Have a great week. xx

What a great use of time Sue, you are certainly getting good at learning and taking on new courses. The photography course is a great way to improve our creativity and I am enjoying it too! Well done on the Saturday run and the half marathon in June, you’re doing so well and are an inspiration to us all. x

Yes life is busy with learning at the moment but I’m really enjoying my studies especially the photography which has opened a new world to me. x

Look at you learning more about photography. And great photos, by the way. I had ‘take a photography class’ on my bucket lists for a long time and it never happened. The class was canceled once and then I signed up for a class that was filled with senior citizens more senior than me. Then Covid. Maybe now that things are opening back up, I can try again. Third time’s charm!!
Sweet potato muffins with cheese sound divine. Like a meal!! Would love to try them.

Hi Leslie, I’m really enjoying the photography class. It is very basic editing at the moment but even that I knew nothing about. Hopefully you can get to a class but I think you have lots going on in your life at the moment. Take care xx
