Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

It’s a time to review Week 2 of My 25 Day Countdown to a Happy Christmas and I’m enjoying the prompts to nudge me into making time for happiness in my day. Thank you also to those of you who are participating with me either on Instagram or Facebook and also to those of you who are following along and leaving me a comment.

I even took the plunge and started posting the prompts daily on the blog and stepped out of my comfort zone by posting the videos to YouTube!

As I mentioned in my post My 25 day Countdown to a Happy Christmas, this fun way to use my Advent Calendar is all about enjoying the lead up to Christmas and the Festive Season.  Who wants to be a grinch because of stress?

Let’s see what I got up to during the last week.  Don’t forget if you blog you can link up at the end and share your photos and how you interpreted the daily video prompts.  Catch up on Week 1 Here.

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

Day 8 – Embrace your Creativity

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

Time to embrace your creativity for Day 8. We can all be creative it is just a matter of finding your creative mindset. I remember once someone telling me I wasn’t creative and that really stuck with me for many years.  Today I reminded myself of my creativity by looking at photos of the birthday cakes I make for my grandchildren.  Sure they aren’t professional looking but they are made with love.  A friend also commented that my blog is another way I show my creative talents.

How do you express your creativity?

Day 9 – Do something that makes you happy

Taking time to do things that make us happy is so important for our mental health and well being. I started the day with a run with my Saturday Sisters, through beautiful Brisbane, , enjoyed these frangipanis in a neigbour’s front garden, put the Christmas decorations up but best of all spent the day with my darling who spoilt me  by making a hot seafood platter for dinner.

Day 10 – Bing or Buble? Fill your day with Christmas music

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

Growing up, my parents loved Bing Crosby especially ‘I’m dreaming of a White Christmas’ even though we live in Australia and December is Summer time. I remember one year they gave me a cassette player and recorded a message from ‘Santa’ plus them singing White Christmas.  I wish I still had that.

The prompt was today was to fill my day with Christmas music so obviously I reached for my CD’s.  However, as we are moving between two homes at the moment, I didn’t have the CDs with me.  No problem, I downloaded a Christmas Hits list from Spotify, problem solved and I filled my day with Festive songs.

Day 11 – Pamper time

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

This time of year is a good excuse to make an appointment to be pampered.  I love going to the hair salon, having my nails done and this year I ‘m using my Gift Card for a facial.   At home, a relaxing bubble bath is always pampering to me.

What do you do to pamper yourself?

Day 12 – Spend time appreciating your pets

For many of us pets are an important part of the family.  They may also be the only family that some people have. Today was all about appreciating and spending time with your pets who provide companionship. I don’t have any pets but I do have a grandpuppy, Wallis The Pooch (check out her Instagram) who I’ve know since she was born.  She is such a beautiful little dog and really believes she is human.  She is also still not sure about the two little humans who came into her life but deep down I know she loves them and they love her. Today, I enjoyed taking Wallis for a walk.

Wallis is also a celebrity LOL 🙂

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

Day 13 – Do a random act of kindness

This prompt had me pause as I wasn’t really sure what a random act of kindness would be. I decided it would be doing something for someone I don’t know. I walked to my local coffee shop ‘Little Smirk’ and bought a coffee to be given to the next person who ordered. I added a note on a Christmas tag saying ‘I hope you enjoy this cup of coffee on me during the Festive Season. Enjoy!’

Giving to someone you don’t know is extra special because you can imagine that hopefully it will bring some happiness to their day and a smile.  Random acts of kindness don’t happen very often so I felt great knowing that I would be surprising someone and making their day.

Have you ever done a random act of kindness?  Share with me what you did

Day 14 – Give your time

Week 2 #my25daycountdowntoahappychristmas

Giving our time which is valuable is such a precious gift.  We all get caught up being busy but to actually make the effort to either give our time through volunteering or even just putting the phone down and listening to family and friends promotes social interaction which is so important for our mental health and well-being.  I spent my time helping at the annual Christmas Party at my MIL’s aged care home.  This is truly a rewarding experience and didn’t cost me anything but my time.

I also rang my daughter for a chat as she had some bad news this week from two close friends so was feeling a bit down. It was lovely to take the time and chat about Ethan’s kindy graduation, my Christmas pudding project and other general chat. I know we both felt better after the phone call.

Who could you give your time to today?

I wonder what the next week’s prompts will be?  It isn’t too late to join in when you can. You don’t have to particpate every day.

If you have a festive post feel free to link it up below even if it isn’t from the prompts.  We can all get into the festive spirit reading each other’s ideas for the Festive Season.

Let’s Keep Sizzling!

Sue this has been such a fantastic challenge – I haven’t kept up with it every day (being on holidays etc has eaten into my consistency!) but I particularly love these wrap up posts (and the ones Debbie is doing too). It’s all so positive and joyful and grateful – exactly what Christmas should be about xx

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 19, 2018 at 08:58

Thanks Leanne, get prepared because I’m going to make it an annual event and have it as a link up. Thanks for following and also for your friendship. I can’t wait until end of January 🙂 xx

Thank you my BBB, meeting you IRL will be the best present I could get in 2019. Thank you for being so easy to work with and making #MLSTL a well respected party. Have a lovely Christmas and see you soon. xx

Hi, Sue – I echo the other commenters. This has been a fantastic challenge. I’ve been following along privately. Your prompts have really made me think!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 19, 2018 at 08:59

Hi Donna, I’m so pleased that it has been well received. I’ve enjoyed making the videos and prompts and have decided to make it an annual event. Perhaps you can join in next year ? xx

This is such a fun way to count down to Christmas! Wallis is just adorable! I ticked all these things off my list this week – such a happy accident! I’ve been baking/making all my Christmas gifts which makes me happy, embraces my creativity and I’ve had the Christmas tunes on in the background so win, win! I also made lunch for the clients at the Asylum Seekers Centre so although it wasn’t random, it was an act of kindness so I hope that counts! Happy Holidays – hope your Christmas is merry and bright! Side note, how cute is Wallis. If I “borrowed” her, I don’t think I’d want to give her back!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 19, 2018 at 09:01

Wallis really thinks she is human and is the big sister to Ethan and Elliot. She is so funny and cute. I’m so pleased you have enjoyed my countdown and you seem to be embracing the idea which is great. Have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to connecting more with you in 2019. xx

  • Reply Bree December 19, 2018 at 06:23

What a great post. So I think I have done some of that list…help at the church op shop, baked, walked and run my dogs at the dog beach….Still have a few to go..Oh hairdresser today….tips and cut…just in time for Christmas…

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 19, 2018 at 08:53

Thanks Bree and you certainly have managed to tick off the prompts for each day. Enjoy your trip to the hairdresser that is one of my favourite things to do. Merry Christmas and I look forward to connecting with you more in 2019. xx

Thanks Natalie. It has been a good reminder to focus on what is important in life and I’ve decided I will do it again next year. I might be better organised to have it as a link up as well. Have a beautiful Christmas and look forward to our continuing blogging friendship in 2019. xx

  • Reply Michele December 19, 2018 at 08:37

What a great way to use an advent calendar! All of your daily messages are wise and would lead anyone to happiness. I especially loved the idea of doing little nice things for people. I’ve been trying to do that, and it is fun for me!

Thanks for running the MLSTL parties. I have enjoyed getting to know this community this year.

Wishing you a happy, healthy Christmas! Michele

I loved seeing what you were up to but did not always join in. I guess, my self-care this December has meant looking out for not going overboard. Your intentions with this are so good and I loved how you have been interpreting the days.

Thank you and Leanne for being the kind and generous hosts here and I look forward to joining you again in 2019.

Hi Denyse, I didn’t expect everyone to join in everyday. My goal was to encourage everyone to stress less and enjoy the lead up to Christmas. It has been wonderful having you as part of #MLSTL and also thank you for your friendship. Have a lovely Christmas and looking forward to more blogging friendship in 2019.xx

  • Reply Denyse December 19, 2018 at 19:39

    Back again to say this:

Thank you for your connections & comments on #lifethisweek in 2018. It has been fun and I welcome you back in 2019. Next week’s optional prompt is “We Made It”. The last one in 2018. Denyse x

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 20, 2018 at 07:39

Hi Denyse, thank you for providing the prompts. Most times they have come at a time when I just didn’t know what to write about and you provided inspiration. Have a great week and if I can’t link up next week I’ll be there in 2019 with bells on! xx

  • Reply Jennifer Jones December 19, 2018 at 20:52

I’m pleased you did this review post Sue. Due to time constraints, I wasn’t able to jpin the challenge. However, I’ve popped in occasionally. But have missed many days. Your review post has allowed me to catch up. Thanks for all you do to bring #MLSTL to us. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 20, 2018 at 07:40

Hi Jen, it is hard to keep up daily with this type of thing but I just hope that everyone gained something from the days they did take part. Thank you for being part of #MLSTL and I look forward to you joining again in 2019. Have a great Christmas and a fabulous New Year xx

  • Reply Christie Hawkes December 19, 2018 at 22:57

I’ve loved watching your posts and seeing what you’ve been up to in the countdown to Christmas. I also grew up with Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and also Burl Ives’ Holly Jolly Christmas. Those songs never fail to get me singing along or at least humming to myself. I’ve said it elsewhere, but it bears repeating, I am wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. #MLSTL

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 20, 2018 at 07:42

Hi Christie thank you for watching my videos and I suppose people might be sick of seeing me each day by Day 25 LOL:) xx

  • Reply Jennifer December 20, 2018 at 13:06

I’m a total Bing Crosby and Andy Williams Christmas music kind of gal. Love your Christmas ball wreath!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 22, 2018 at 05:45

Hi Jen, the wreath was from Target, I think. I’ve had it a couple of years now. Yes, I remember we would watch the Andy Williams show when I was growing up, I had forgotten about him. Have a beautiful Christmas and thank you for your friendship and support of my blog during the year. Looking forward to a great 2019 with you. xx

Sounds like you have found many great ways to make this Holiday season very meaningful. I love it!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 22, 2018 at 05:43

It was a fun project and made me think, Cherie. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year in your home and that 2019 is happy and healthy for you and your family. Thank you for being supportive of my blog and also our #MLSTL link up. xx

  • Reply Christine December 21, 2018 at 13:48

Love the ideas in this challenge. PS I can’t believe someone would say to you, or anyone really, you’re not creative. Not sure what the point of saying that is but to bring someone down. I agree with someone else before that said doing this blog and creating a community is creative. Happy Christmas

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 22, 2018 at 05:40

Thank you Christine. I am slowly coming to realise that I am creative in certain ways but it can be soul destroying when someone makes a sweeping statement like that. I’m older and wiser now 🙂 Thank you for being supportive of my blog and also the #MLSTL link up and my Facebook Group. I wish you a very Happy Christmas and look forward to continuing our connection in 2019. Who knows perhaps one day we might meet IRL. xx

  • Reply Christina Daggett December 21, 2018 at 14:50

I’ve really enjoyed your daily prompts leading up to a happy Christmas. They’ve reminded me to live in the moment, and not to get caught up in the Christmas rush. I’m looking forward to the last few days of prompts. Have a Happy Christmas, Sue!

Thank you so much for the feedback Christina and I’m pleased you found them useful. It was a fun project and something I haven’t done before but I might make it an annual December tradition. I wish you a very Happy Christmas and an exciting New Year in your new home. Thank you for your support of my blog and Facebook Group and I look forward to connecting more in 2019. xx
