Wednesday Words & Whimsy – My week that was

March 6, 2024
Wednesday Words and Whimsy 13th March

It’s time for Wednesday Words & Whimsy and I’m delighted to be a guest co-hosting again with my partner in crime, Debbie Harris from Deb’s World. Min, from Write of the Middle, the regular host will be back in the near future but until that time, Deb and I have taken on co-hosting duties and I think we make a fabulous team.

How has your week been going?

It is still hot and sticky up here in Queensland. We have broken the record for the most number of nights above average and it looks set to continue. Brisbane breaks decades-old weather record as consistently high overnight temperatures surpass 60th consecutive evening

Bring on Autumn and Winter, I say!

I’ve managed to start March with my dedicated 30 minutes of movement including my regular Saturday run with my frined. I always feel so good afterwards, even if I wasn’t too enthusiastic at the start. I’ve started back taking some classes in the Strong Health Women Virtual Studio which I love. I enjoy helping Women over 50,60, 70 and 80 (yes we have an over 80 y.o. lady in the class) stay strong and healthy.

Our bathroom renovations are almost complete. The main bathroom is about 95% complete just the cornices and door trim to do which Mike has under control. The tiling in the ensuite was completed last week. Over the coming week we will have the plumber, plasterer and the shower screen fitted. Mike is pretty handy so is looking after installing the shower head, mirror and towel racks etc.

I’m very happy with the result and might even write a post sharing before and after photos.

With all the renovations there has been little time for Mike and I to have some quality time. Unless of course you consider the couple that renos together stays together LOL 🙂 . We enjoyed a local pub lunch on Saturday and it was so nice just to sit, relax and chat. Mike’s burger was huge and looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa!! I opted for a delicious pumpking and feta salad and stole a few chips from Mike.

The latest from the WLWA50 blog

Each month I share the Action for Happiness Calendar and this month’s theme is Mindful in March. My focus this week on the blog and socials has been presenting a March Challenge – Mindful Minute -Daily Affirmations, which I’m sharing through my Instagram @womenlivingwellafter50. I’ve included an affirmation to get you started in this post and you can read more about the challenge in my post which I am linking below. Otherwise pop over to Instagram and check out the daily reels.

This week, I recorded another interview for the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast and I always enjoy meeting my guests and hearing their stories or the ways in which they support and help other women live well.

Bad hair days

Life is good apart from my biggest ‘first world’ problem at the moment which is my hair! I just can’t seem to do anything with it – do you have bad hair days? I’m trying to decide on a new style. My hairdresser is away for a month and as I had cancelled my early February appointment, it will be 12 weeks between cuts. I’m wanting a new look, but I’m nervous about changing up the style. It’s funny though, when I was younger, I changed my hairstyle regularly. Even my kids have commented when they look at photos of me over the years. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Anyway as I said a first world problem! Let’s get on with the link up…….

You can find the link below and don’t be put off by the message that suggest it isn’t working that’s a glitch I didn’t want to bother Min with and we can work around it.

I’m looking forward to reading your posts and comments.

Have a lovely week!

Hi, Sue – Congratulations on your bathroom renos. I would love to see before and after photos once you are ready. It’s funny how you are cheering on Autumn while I am desperately cheering on Summer. 😀 Oh, and about bad hair days — I know all about those. I think your hair looks good in any style. I keep my long so that I can toss it into a ponytail with one quick flick of an elastic band. Hats are also my friend in any season! 😀

Hi Donna, you know, I’m not sure I even took ‘before’ photos LOL 🙂 We are very happy with the result though. As for my hair, I’m going through my usual phase just before I change my style! it definitely is a first world problem. x

Hi Sue – the weather here has been horribly hot too – dry heat, but soooo many days over 35 degrees and hot nights. I’m with you for wishing for Autumn. I’d love to see your before and after bathroom pics – and maybe the kitchen too?
As far as hair goes, I’m not much help, I found a cut that works for me back in my 40’s and have stuck with variations of the same look since then. I think it comes back to whether you’re ready to go short and sassy or whether you want to keep some length – good luck and happy googling (that’s what I tend to do when I’m wondering if I should change….) x

Hi Leanne, I’m very happy with the bathrooms. As for my hair, I go through phases of not being happy with a style. I actually thought of you the other day as your style has been the same since I’ve known you and always looks good. Maybe I should try ‘short and sassy’ LOL 🙂 x

Good to hear your bathroom is almost finished. Your husband’s burger does look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa! After we move, I’m going to start the 30 minutes of movement each day as I will be taking a bus to work rather than walking so need to do something instead. Thanks for the idea!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 6, 2024 at 12:03

The burger was huge and not that good for him, but I suppose it doesn’t matter occasionally, does it? I’m glad you like my 30 minutes of movement idea as you will be cutting back on your walking. I’m sure you will find some time to fit something. I like to keep it varied too so I don’t get bored and it doesn’t feel quite so much like a chore. x

Hi Sue. I’m sure you’ll be over the moon when the renos are done. I’d love to see before and after. That’s the biggest burger I’ve ever seen! As for bad hair days , I tend to have a few of those lately. Not sure if my hair has changed or maybe I just have more time for noticing.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 6, 2024 at 12:04

Hi Jen, just lately my hair as been so difficult. Maybe it is because of the hot and humid weather but as it is so fine it won’t hold the style and of course just lays flat. anyway first world problems. We are very happy with the bathroom so will have to find my before photos. x

Ugh bad hair days. I sent my hair dresser a text the other day that said “when the good hair moments are so rare that I have taken to wearing a headband ALL day long = I need it CUT”. Again first world problems and I know many would love my natural curly hair but sometimes, especially in toque season, it’s a disaster. I haven’t had it this long in a while and as much as I enjoy the curl I might not come home with it after Friday. 12 weeks between cuts — no wonder you are at your wits end! Good luck with whatever style you chose. Short is easy!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 12, 2024 at 11:17

I agree, short is easy, Bernie and I still deciding. My hair has actually gone wavy in my 60s if I let it dry naturally – go figure? LOL 🙂

      • Reply Bernie March 12, 2024 at 12:18

And mine less curly as the colour changed to white. My hairdresser cleaned up the sides and back, and we’ve left the curl on top. Good luck.

I’m counting down until next week! x

You have made short order of your bathroom reno! I keep putting off starting the changes in our primary bathroom. It’s not anything major like you’re doing!

As for hair, I wish I had some words of wisdom. My hair is a lot like yours, thin and fine. I use lots and lots of products on my hair. There are days I’m like an artist…not knowing when to stop and going just that one step farther and ruining the whole thing! We have terrible water, too, so that doesn’t help! I do use velcro rollers for volume if that helps. I dry my hair, use a curling iron to curl each one, then roll on the roller to let cool. Sometimes, I even spray that with hairspray. I usually leave it in curlers for at least 30 minutes. But, every day is a surprise as far as my hair is concerned. It truly has a mind of its own!

    Thanks for the link up!

Your hair always looks beautiful and well styled Marsha. Because I exercise every day I have to wash my hair most days and taking time for styling isn’t always convenient. Thanks for some tips though. x

I don’t change my hair up too often these days, although I did get bangs and I am loving them. I needed a little change, I guess. Lol.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 12, 2024 at 11:20

We all need a change sometime, don’t we, Erin? I’m at that stage now but unsure which style to go with. Oh well, first world problems! x

His Sue, As a guest co-hots first up I must apologise for not commenting on your post earlier, I really thought I had!!
Your hair always looks stylish but i know what you mean about it not feeling right – I think a short and sassy look would suit you perfectly, but then longer also looks good on you!
Well done on your continued fitness efforts, you are such an inspirations to me and many others. Your bathroom renovations are powering along – you’ll need a holiday at the end of it all!
Thanks again for co-hosting Min’s #wwwhimsy with me!

Hi Deb, I’m enjoying hosting with you but hopefully Min will be back soon because that means the pressure on her isn’t quite so bad. ‘Short and Sassy’ – I need to remember those words when I go to the hairdresser! x
