Travel Packs & Devices to make travel easier

November 10, 2023

We are off to Amsterdam, a Rhine River Cruise and a week in Milan and I’m excited! We haven’t travelled internationally since pre-pandemic so looking forward to discovering new places.

Whilst I’m not taking just ‘carry-on’, I do intend to pack lightly as I will be visiting Christmas Markets and I will probably need the room for my purchases.

For me, the biggest hurdle is toiletries and makeup. I’m sure my toiletries bag and makeup bag weigh more than my clothes and can be bulky to pack. I’ve made a concerted effort to find travel sizes for most items which has really reduced the bulkiness in my suitcase and the items will be ideal for three weeks. Stackable containers which I purchased from Kmart are also good although I’m not using them all, they are handy to have.

Travel Packs & Devices to make travel easier

Makeup & Toiletries

This is a big one for me – what to take, what to leave behind and then wish you had taken……

I should be a seasoned packer by now and it helps that I don’t wear quite as much makeup as I get older. I decided on palettes for the makeup – easy, slimline to pack and usually with a variety of colours to select from. I am taking a lip palette and eyeshadow palette. Neither are expensive and they do the job.

I purchased some primer and travel size foundation from Clinique which I love.

For my hair, NAK Hair Blonde Plus Shampoo and Conditioner are the perfect size and it means I can still maintain healthy hair rather than using hotel shampoos and conditioners.

For the all important skincare, to maintain my skincare regime which is important to me, I rely on the Hydroskin Skincare range and their starter/travel pack is perfect. It contains Cleanser, Vitamin B Mist, Hylauranic Acid Serum and Vitamin C Moisturizer.

Purchases

Hydroskin Skincare onlineStarter/Travel Pack
BYS Copacabana On the Go Lip Palette – I purchased from Cosmetic Capital at the local shopping centre
Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF15 30ml – I purchased at Myer department store as I wanted to get the right colour match
Clinique Even Better Light Reflecting primer 30ml – I purchased at Myer department store as I wanted to get the right colour match
Nude By Nature Natural Illusion Eyeshadow Palette – I purchased at Priceline
Nak Blonde Plus Shampoo and Conditioner both 100ml – I purchased at Price Attack.

Electronics

With so many electronic devices these days – phone, smartwatches, earpods, e-readers or laptops taking chargers for each item also takes up unnecessary space in my backpack and it can be cumbersome managing all those cords.

Recently my daughter was travelling to Malaysia for work and before she left she purchased a Charger Bank through Amazon. It’s a great idea so Mike and I purchased one each. I chose a pink one of course.

We also purchased an international power adaptor with usb ports so the Charger Bank just plugs into the USB port for charging. This is really nifty as you just slide the button to the country/area you are in and the power adaptor adjusts accordingly.

Amazon Purchases

Health

Mike has recently been having issues with his blood pressure. It has been erratic and falling quite low at times. He has had a checkup with the cardiologist and has the all clear thank goodness. Nothing wrong with his heart and the grafts from his triple by-pass 23 years ago are holding up well. The cardiologist adjusted his medication so both of us are feeling much more relaxed about his health.

We purchased this handy portable BP monitor to take with us so he can keep an eye on his BP readings. It is so convenient as it fits on your wrist.

We also are taking some general antiobiotics – just in case.

Do you have any other tips for travelling ? I’d love to hear them.

Dear Sue, I am excited to read about your upcoming fun adventure. I love learning about new packing ideas. The charger bank is a great suggestion versus my various cords for my devices in a toiletry bag. Interesting about taking general antibiotics with you. I believe it is a good idea, yet doctors here have not wanted to prescribe ‘just in case’ antibiotics. I also carry along the Bose noise cancelling headphones since they really do cancel noise. Slightly larger, yet worth it for me. The noise cancelling AirPods help, yet not the same. Have a safe, fun trip! I look forward to reading all about it, Sue. xx 💕 Erica

Sue, I tend to go extra light on hair care and makeup products when traveling – foundation, mascara, lip color. I pack small sized shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray and use the body lotion provided by the hotel. I know my skin suffers, but two or three weeks probably won’t do permanent damage. The room I save goes to camera lenses and comfortable shoes. Sometimes (long trips) I pack my laptop. It helps me keep my daily photos organized and denoted.

It sounds like you have everything you need for a wonderful trip. I wish you smooth sailing.

What a nice, packable BP monitor. PC has high blood pressure but it is managed for now with a low dose of medication. Still it would be nice to be able to pack a BP device for trips. Hope Mike’s BP remains normal and you kids have the very best trip. You mentioned taking general antibiotics. I always pack an antibiotic ointment for cuts and scrapes but we can’t get oral antibiotics without a prescription. Can you guys?

Have the very best time. Be safe. Take lots of pictures. Enjoy.
