Thriving through Friendship

Thriving through Friendship is so important to our health and wellbeing as I wrote in my previous post.  Of course, to me it is all about quality of friendship rather than how many friends we have.  However, we do need to connect with others especially as we move into midlife and retirement.

Today, I’m delighted to introduce another guest in the Over 50 & Thriving Series.  It’s Grammy Dee from Grammy’s Grid! I met Dee through blogging and co-host the Blogging Grandmother’s Link Party with her.  Dee is such a generous person who promotes other blogging grandmothers through her website and facebook group. You can find these links at the end of the post and I encourage you to connect with her.  I was touched that Dee sent me a beautiful gift for Christmas – that is just the way she is.

In her post for the Over 50 & Thriving series, Dee talks about how she is thriving because of friendship.

Thriving through Friendship

Hi everyone and thank you Sue for inviting me to join in on this series!

I am over 50 and thriving. One reason I’m thriving is because of the friendships I’ve made with the women I’ve “met” online, with Sue being one of them! Thank you world wide web for allowing me to “meet” Sue and become friends with her!

As a nurse, I am no longer able to work due to fibromyalgia, you can read about it here.

Being shut in a lot of the time can make you feel really depressed. It’s bad enough to have to live with the pain but you also lose who you were and what you were able to do. You lose previous friendships and co-workers as others seem to not know how to deal with the illness you have.

I have a very loving, caring, and supportive husband and am thankful for him but sometimes a woman just needs another woman to talk to, we all need girlfriends, right?

Finding women my age to communicate with from my home with my phone or computer whether I am in bed, in my recliner, or able to sit up has been a godsend! Thank goodness for the internet!

I have found some awesome women who are also grandmother bloggers like myself! As a result, I created the Blogging Grandmothers group for friendship and networking. I have found that this gives me a purpose and makes me feel worthy.

Writing on my blog, interacting with other women my age, and just exercising my brain helps me thrive…believe it or not!

Thriving through Friendship

I would love for you all to visit me at Grammy’s Grid where I blog from Alabama about things to amuse, inform, inspire, and make you laugh! You can read all about me here.

Thanks again, Sue!

Meet Grammy Dee

Hi I’m Grammy Dee! I live in Alabama and was inspired to start blogging as a way to connect with other women my age (50s) as I am no longer able to work due to fibromyalgia. I also felt that a blog might help me with being creative.  Each month I host the Blogging Grandmothers Link Party as well as a facebook group just for Grandmothers!  A wife, mother and grandmother, I like to promote other Grandmothers who blog  through my successful series ‘Blogging Grandmothers Series’ where I introduce a new blogging Grandmother each week. I would love to connect with you through my links below.

Hi, Grammy Dee – This definitely is your week for Guest Hosting! I completely agree with you that friendship and connecting with others are essential to our health and well-being at any age…especially as we grow older. In fact, researchers now claim that close relationships and social interaction are two top contributors to longevity. Great post!

Grammy Dee is certainly guest writer of the week isn’t she Donna! I agree with Dee that blogging has really introduced me to some wonderful women who I now call friends even though they live all over the world. I count you as one of my dearest, Donna and thank you for your continuing support. xx

I enjoyed that little insight into Dee’s life Sue – it’s interesting when you actually get a visual image of someone and I could see Dee sitting in her chair FB messaging us across the world! Loving your guest posters and your Thrive theme this year xx

Yes Leanne, we think we know people but even though we communicate regularly I didn’t realise Dee had her health issues. I’m loving the series too, I’m learning from so many wonderful women.

Friendships can have a major impact on your health and well-being, but it’s not always easy to build or maintain friendships. Understand the importance of friendships in your life and what you can do to develop and nurture friendships.

Friendships are important but quality is much better than quantity. One good, supportive friend who is there through thick and thin is all we really need. Thanks for stopping by to comment and have a great day!
