Last Sunday the Saturday Sisters and I participated in The Stadium Stomp at Brisbane’s famous stadium ‘The Gabba’ and conquered the 5,000 stairs! It was our third year participating and it is always so encouraging to see different shapes, sizes and ages taking part.
The event is held in different cities around Australia each year and this year the Charity was The Leukemia Foundation. Some people even travel to participate in each City!
So what is the Stadium Stomp?
Well, it is walking or running two laps of the upper level of the Stadium, one lap of the lower level and then a lap of the oval. There are approximately 5,000 stairs in the course. It certainly can be challenging especially on a cool winter’s morning but I just love the enthusiasm and atmosphere.
The day was a gorgeous winter’s day with blue sky and sunshine.

The Gabba Stadium
Music playing, people dressed in fun ways, participants just getting out there and giving it a go! It is just a fun morning!
Participants start in waves so we are spread out and not running on top of each other. After a warm up session we are off. You can go as fast as you want or as slow as you want it is up to you. Some people even enter the multiple rounds which means they do it all over again as many times as they can. Even I’m not that silly LOL:)

The warm up area waiting to start.
Such a great feeling at the end when you cross that finish line and know you have achieved what you have set out to do.

I finished and I have the medal to prove it!
The Stadium Stomp might not be for you and that is fine. To me, it is all about getting out in the fresh air, having a go and enjoying the camaraderie as well as helping a Charity.
Cudos to all the volunteers who help make the morning run smoothly and are there if anyone needs help.
When I woke on the morning of the event, I have to admit that I was not in the mood to tackle 5,000 stairs but determination can do wonders and I felt fit and fabulous after I finished. I even beat my time from last year which was a bonus and a thrill.

Another achievement for The Saturday Sisters!
This is another event to tick off my bucket list before my 60th birthday next month.

Good evening Sue, congratulations on completing the Stadium Stomp, a fabulous achievement. I love walking, whatever the weather, but I’m not sure if I could run up 5,000 stairs. I think you are amazing, especially as you completed the course in less time than you did last year.
We are in the summer months here in England, but I haven’t seen such clear blue skies in quite a while.
Enjoy your day.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Hello Daphne and it is lovely of you to stop by and comment. Thank you for your words of encouragement which I really appreciate. We will be visiting London in October for a few days so I would assume it would be a little cooler by then? Have a beautiful week and I hope you visit again. x
A fantastic effort Sue! What a great photo of you too, looking very pleased, as you should after all that exercise! Love the different types of activities you can get involved in these days all for a good cause too. Well done to you all.
Yes I look at it and can’t believe that was at the end. I felt terrific both mentally and physically so I suppose it will be on my list again for next year. Maybe you could do the Melbourne one???
That’s such a huge effort Sue – stairs are killers and to do that many and run laps as well is amazing. You commented on how tough it was last year, and yet you went back for more!
Thanks Leanne! I think I must be a glutton for punishment! LOL:)
An amazing achievement Sue! Stairs kill me. I’ll walk wherever you like but don’t ask me to rush up stairs!
Thank you Shirley it probably sounds worse than what it was but I was very happy with how I felt at the end. Have a great day and enjoy your holiday x
Great work Sue, it sounds so easy the way you describe it and you look amazingly fresh at the finish line despite how you felt when you woke up.
I was really happy with myself Jan because I felt so good (although cold to start with) and finished strongly. There is life in this girl yet! xx
OMG Sue, what an accomplishment. All those stairs ad running too. Yikes. You are amazing. My bucket list included doing a half marathon before 65 and I did, but not sure I could do the stadium stomp.
Hugs,
Bev
Well done you Beverly! Yes, I felt pretty good after it but just take it year by year now. Have a great weekend xx
