I read quite a lot these days of being Mindful and Living in the moment. If you have been following my AtoZ Guide to Thriving in Life, you would have read about the book ‘Mastering Your Mean Girl’ by Melissa Ambrosini. In one of the Chapters, she refers to ‘The Magic of the Now Moment’. Melissa was inspired by Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now and writes:
When you realise you don’t have to stress out over what happened in the past, and that the future doesn’t exist yet, you are left with this beautiful, expansive space in the middle where infinite possibilities are at your fingertips. THIS is where the magic lies, right here in this moment.
We are always waiting; waiting to finish school, waiting to pay off our mortgage, waiting to pay off our car, waiting to save more money, waiting until this, waiting until that.
We live our lives in the future instead of enjoying the present and miss many ‘perfect’ moments along the way, which I wrote about in ‘J’ is for the Joy of the Journey. Suddenly twenty years has passed and we look back with regret.
Sometimes our perception of Perfection is unrealistic, we keep striving for something that is unattainable whilst not recognizing the perfect moments that do exist in our life. We set the bar too high for perfection and are disappointed when we believe we haven’t achieved it.
Sometimes it is the simple things that make the moment perfect. We need to appreciate our life and what we have TODAY not tomorrow. Sure, I’m a great believer in setting goals however we also need to STOP and just enjoy the NOW.
Why Wait? You Can Make The Perfect Moment Now
Try this exercise.
What are you doing right at this moment?
Can you find something that will make it perfect?
- Stop a moment, think of your partner, your children and grandchildren and how you feel about them. This should make you smile and appreciate what you have. Not everyone has this.
- Walk outside and see the beauty of nature.
- Read a book
- Listen to music
- Go for a Walk/Run
- Have a bubble bath
- Enjoy a good meal
- Walking along the beach
Don’t wait for someone to make things perfect for You. Find your ‘Perfect’ and make the Moment Perfect for You.
Make the most of every moment because when it is gone we can never get it back.
- Take time to sit in the sunshine and just be.
- Create your special place where you can sit and clear your mind.
- Include the practice of mindfulness in each day
- Why not take some time out of today and enjoy the moment?
