The Freedom to Change my Mind or Direction

Freedom to change my mind Podcast

I’m excited and delighted to announce that a new season of the Women Living Well After 50 podcast is coming soon. Last year in August, I had to press the pause button on the Podcast due to ill health. I was pleasantly surprised since that time, to see that the interest in the podcast continued despite no new episodes being published.

Like all things, when you haven’t done something for a while, you can feel a little overwhelmed or frightened at the thought of starting again. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to continue the podcast or not and I had lost my confidence in my ability as an interviewer. We all have self-doubt at times and second guess ourselves, don’t we?

The Freedom to Change my Mind or Direction

Over the holiday season I was mulling over the podcast and still couldn’t make a decision. During January, I was thinking about what I wanted to do this year. My WOTY is Freedom and I want to explore this guiding word during 2024. Pondering my WOTY, it came to my mind that I have the FREEDOM to decide and the power to control what I want and what I don’t want in my life. It is up to me.

With the thought of Freedom of decisions, I asked myself the same question I had asked way back over 3 years ago when I pressed the GO LIVE button for my very first episode –

What is the worst that can happen?

Freedom means I can decide to do something but if it isn’t working for me I have the Freedom to change my mind or the direction I’m taking.

Season 7 Women Living Well After 50 Podcast

Over the last week, I have restarted interviews with wonderful women who have a story to share. Women who are living well and enjoying life after 50.

It was like riding a bike doing the interviews. I hadn’t done them for quite some time but fell easily back into the role of interviewer and was reminded of how much I enjoy this role and how much joy the podcast brings to me.

It’s great to be back!

For Season 7 there will be some changes hence the title The Freedom to change my mind or direction. I will be publishing a new podcast episode FORTNIGHTLY rather than weekly as I did in the past. This gives me the FREEDOM to conduct interviews in a more relaxed way rather than trying to schedule several interviews in a short space of time.

The schedule will take the pressure off the ‘behind-the-scenes’ work – setting up and conducting interviews via Zoom, navigating time zone differences when interviewing overseas guests, editing post interview and creating cover images, uploading to Buzzsprout the podcast platform I use, producing a video version for YouTube along with writing a blog post and social media promotion.

The first episode of Season 7 will air on Monday 12th February at 6am Brisbane time.

While you are waiting perhaps you might like to revisit some of the previous seasons’ episodes. There are quite a few to select from. You can find them HERE

Would you like to be a guest?

Each week, I am contacted by women or their agents wanting to be considered for an episode on the WLWA50 Podcast. I don’t accept all requests as I want the episodes to be interesting and in line with my values and philosophies for living well after 50. Some of the guests use the podcast as a platform to share their passion or their services and I’m happy to promote and help women who want to inspire and encourage others.

Going forward I will still accept these guests but I also want to interview women who have a story but are not looking to promote their business or book or whatever. I want to highlight that we all have an interesting story and can be an inspiration to others just by living our life in our way.

If you feel you have a story or experience you would like to share with others, please contact me and we can discuss.

Equally, if you are a listener and have some ideas of the topics you would like me to cover then please contact me with your thoughts.

Looking forward to bringing new episodes and inspiration to you through the Podcast.

Yes! I am super excited that you are launching a Season 7 for your podcasts — and I absolutely love your title and new direction. I can’t wait to listen!

Getting back into it slowly, Donna but I do enjoy it. x

I am excited to listen to this new season. I have enjoyed them very much. I always imagined that they were a lot of work so it’s good you have given yourself more wiggle room in that aspect.
Perhaps you could find a couple of women who’s stories speak to freedom — someone who has escaped from Afghanistan or Iran who lives in Australia now. Perhaps my friend, Dr. D., who is an orthopedic surgeon who has worked in both those countries and understands first hand how freedom changes depending on where you live. Just a thought.

What a fabulous idea, Bernie re women’s stories about freedom. I would be interested in your friend’s details. Thanks so much. x

I will check with her. It’s not her usual area of public speaking (she often talks about the medical aspect of her work) but I always think it’s interesting to see what her life is like in these places were woman have no freedoms.

That’s fine, no pressure Bernie. x

She’s home from her current assignment on the 15th so I will ask her in person.

Hi Sue – it’s great that you’re ready to jump back into your podcasting – but also doing it on your own terms. It sounds like there’s a lot of background work producing them to a high level, so beginning fortnightly takes some pressure off. I’m sure you’ll be inundated with women wanting to be interviewed who have interesting stories to tell. Enjoy getting back on that bicycle! x

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 5, 2024 at 15:00

Hi Leanne, it isn’t really difficult once you get into it but I do want the freedom of time so fortnightly is just the right balance for me. x

Wonderful to hear you’re starting a new season.

  • Reply marsha57 February 5, 2024 at 13:40

Sue, I think you are an inspiration to women over 60 as well as over 50! Congratulations on starting up your podcast. I will try to tune in as often as possible.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 5, 2024 at 14:59

Hi Marsha thank you for your kind words. This is the third year of doing the Podcast. I had intended to stop and did for a while but I missed it. x

Hi Sue, it’s great to see you returning with your podcast as they are always interesting and informative. You are a very professional interviewer and I look forward to hearing morwe from you and your guests (just maybe not the first one though). I love the way your are using your WOTy to help give you freedom to do what suits you!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 5, 2024 at 15:02

Hi Deb, thank you for your support as always and so far Season 7 is sounding great. I’m surprised at how Freedom has taken off in my thinking. I thought for a while in January that I had chosen the wrong word but I’m taking a leaf out of your book and trying for some more creative ways of looking at it. x

Sue, I am sure it will be very satisfying to produce quality projects, without undue pressure. I wish you well as you head into a new season, on more relaxed terms.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 8, 2024 at 11:10

Thanks, Suzanne. I’ve done a couple of interviews and realised how much I missed the experience of conversation. By taking the pressure off I will enjoy my podcast rather than it becoming a chore. x

Oh this is exciting for you. Love that you’re getting back in the saddle so to speak and even better, that you’re doing it on your own terms! I’ll be sure to have a listen!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 8, 2024 at 11:12

It is exciting, Sammie as I realise that I do love interviewing women. If you listen I hope you enjoy the interviews. Have a lovely week. x

Thanks, Christie, I’m sure we all have waves of confidence and lack of confidence in ourselves. I do love interviewing women and will continue with the podcast until it feels like a chore. Have a lovely week. x

You are a role model in ‘getting things done that you think about’…so good to read this Sue and knowing you have made a modification to frequency of podcasting means you are choosing you first! Well done. Denyse

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 8, 2024 at 11:19

Thank you Denyse, I try. I do love the podcast and will continue until I find it becoming more of a chore than a joy. x

Well done on making the decision for Freedom sue. I’m sure there’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get an episode to air, so I’m sure that going fortnightly is a great idea.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 8, 2024 at 11:22

Thanks Jen, I mulled over it for a time but I do enjoy presenting the podcast so I’m pleased to be restarting. If it becomes a chore I will know that is the sign to move on and do something else. x

Congratulations Sue on giving yourself space to 1) look after your health and wellbeing, 2) think about what you would like to do, and 3) space your podcasts out to fortnightly rather than weekly so you have more wriggle room. I know they would be a lot of work but very rewarding! I wish you all the very best of luck with it but I’m sure you’ll do some more amazing stuff! Thank you so much for linking up with #WWWhimsy – enjoy the rest of your week! xo

Thanks, Min, I really do enjoy the Podcast but like many things I do, I like to go all in and sometimes you just have to balance the time involved. I hope you are going okay. Take each day as it comes xx
