Each Saturday I drive an hour to Brisbane to run with my Saturday Sisters. We moved to the Gold Coast two years ago, but I still keep my running date with my Sisters. We run from New Farm usually out to Southbank and back following the Brisbane River. Last Saturday, the weather was picture perfect. A sharp comparison to the heavy rains we experienced over the Easter holiday break.
Starting my weekend with a run and connecting with friends is good not only for my physical health as I get my cardio workout done. It is also great for my mind and spirit as I connect with friends who I’ve run with for over 10 years. It is the perfect example of my philosophy of an holistic approach to health through body, mind and spirit.
On days like Saturday when the sky is so clear and blue, running with friends – well, it doesn’t get much better than that.
Take a run with me through beautiful Brisbane City
Let me take you through part of my Saturday run and discover the beautiful city of Brisbane and the Brisbane River with all of her bridges. Brisbane has a number of bridges with two more being added in the future. Some are pedestrian and cyclists only which is great as you don’t need to negotiate traffic. My favourite is the Kurilpa Bridge which was a later addition and of course the William Jolly Bridge which was built from 1928 – 1932 and is heritage listed.
I love seeing the City Cats gliding by and the new baby ‘Kity Kats’ which make a commute to the CBD and surrounds pleasant and relaxing.

I hope you enjoyed running through Brisbane City with me and perhaps you will join me for another run in the future. What is it like where you live? Do you run or take a wander and discover where you live?

I loved running through Brisbane with you Sue!! I’ll definitely join you again 🙂 Thanks for the exercise and sharing your great views. #lifethisweek
Hi Sue – that brought back some lovely memories of our visit over there 2 and a bit years ago (not long before your move and my retirement!) The ferries reminded me of our catch up visits! It’s lovely that you still get to meet with your Saturday Sisters and combine fitness with frienship x
Ahhhh, you brought back some memories there. Not that I used to run around Brisbane but I worked in the city so often walked at lunchtime when it was cooler and sometimes on weekends I’d get ferries to places and walk parts of the trip.
What a delightful place to run. So glad you continue to exercise and enjoy time with your Saturday Sisters. Wish I could find a group of Saturday Sisters to run with. I was invited to join a hiker babes group on Facebook but many of their hikes together take place on weekends when Paul is home. I hate to abandon him. Would like to find a couple of gals to do a 2 mile run with me once a week on a weekday.
I would absolutely LOVE to run through Brisbane with you, Sue. Hey, wait! What am I saying?
Would you be okay if we just walked it? That would be most lovely!
I used to work by the river and it was so nice to escape there for a walk during my lunchbreak. Sadly I’m too far for that now, but I miss the water. Water is so calming.
You’re showing Brisbane at it’s best Sue. The area around the city, South Bank, Kangaroo Point and thereabouts is truly beautiful. Especially at this time of the year. I lived in Brisbane for 10 years from 1986 and it changed so much in that time. Now it is so busy I hate driving in Brisbane. Have a lovely week, Christina
I love beautiful, sunny Queensland and I can’t wait to visit there again. Love the pics. I have a walking group with friends twice a week we walk for an hour. I think running would be beyond me but a brisk walk is fun.
I can’t run but I would love to walk with you through Brisbane. It is beautiful.
I would be very happy to walk with you through Brisbane, Anne. Anytime! x
Lovely photos Sue. I’ve never been to Brisbane but hope to get there if and when I’m able to visit my family in Noosa
Hi Jen, the weather is perfect at this time of year. I haven’t been to Noosa for some time but it is beautiful there, especially the National Park. I hope you get to visit your family soon. It is so difficult living far away from them with the added restrictions of COVID-19. x
Thanks for the virtual run through my beautiful home city Sue! It’s the only way I can run! lol I’m a very good walker though. What a great showcase of our city. Great photos. I am very fond of Brisbane I must say. I’ve lived here all my life except for 3 years when Dad was transferred around Queensland when he worked with the bank – 1 year in Warwick and 2 years out at Mitchell and then back to Brisbane we came. I think it’s lovely you have a group of ladies you run with on Saturdays. Lots of fun and great for your health! Have a great week!
Thanks for taking us along with you on your run, Sue, I loved seeing the beautiful bridge photos. You live in an awesome place! xo
It is such a beautiful city Candi and I also have the ocean at the Gold Coast where I live. The best of both worlds really x
Lovely Sue. I have only been to Brisbane once as a child. I know the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, along with Far North Queensland and need to be better informed of your city! What a great tradition you have. Lovely words and photos!!
Thank you for linking up for Life This Week. Next week, the optional prompt is Interesting. My post will be a continuation of Telling My Story as I am wanting to wrap the series up. It’s great to have your blogging support on my link up. Thank you. Denyse
Brisbane has certainly developed into a beautiful city compared to the almost Country Town feel it had when I moved up from Sydney in 1988. x
Just beautiful Sue. Thanks for sharing. I’m impressed that you have kept your Saturday Sisters run going even after your move. It takes dedication to drive an hour for your running date, but it definitely sounds like it’s worth it…for lots of reasons, not the least of which is nurturing those relationships. Enjoy!
Hi Christie, yes I find that making the commitment to meet the Saturday Sisters, helps me stay on track with my running. x
