‘T’ is for Time – Get the most out of each day

April 23, 2016
t is for time

_Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans_

TIME – Why is it that some of us seem to have more time than others?

How can some fit so much into their day and others are struggling to even get going?

We all have the same number of hours in a day so it should be simple right?

Our time is valuable and there are many demands on our time :-

  • our relationship,
  • parenthood,
  • career
  • and of course the main one – time for ourselves.

Life is short! So how do we manage our time effectively and get the most out of each day?

It all comes down to planning, your morning routine, placing a value on your time and getting enough sleep.

1. Planning

I’m a planner and list girl.  I love ticking off the list when the item is completed.  Being organised and planning will help you define areas in your day and also avoid wasting your precious time.  Of course you shouldn’t plan down to the minute because we need to have spontaneity in our life otherwise we would feel like we are on a treadmill and life becomes a drag.

Try this exercise

Take a calendar or diary and write down all you are doing over the next month.

There are the obvious things like work, chores, family commitments (school, sport etc) so log those first.  BUT IT CAN’T BE ALL ABOUT WORK

Include time for yourself to relax and for nurturing.  ‘Me time’ is very important you also need FREE TIME for you and the family – time to chill out or to be spontaneous and have fun.

Include time with your partner/family –  FREE TIME for you and the family – time to chill out or to be spontaneous and have fun.  Plan a weekly date night to keep the spark in your relationship.

Include time for exercising – keeping healthy with exercise and eating nourishing food will increase your fitness level and give your more energy.

2. Your Morning Routine Determines what type of day you will have

Are you a morning person?  Do you struggle each morning to get a head start on the day?  Are you constantly feeling like you are on the back foot?

Starting your day in a positive, organised way will reduce your stress and set you up to have a fantastic day despite what life throws at you! Not only will you be healthier physically but also mentally.  You will be more prepared to take on the challenges of daily life.

I have always been a morning person, however, over time I developed habits that were not so healthy. Skipping breakfast did not set me up for a productive day as I was ‘hangry’ (a new term I recently heard angry + hungry would you believe?) by 10am.  I couldn’t concentrate and I felt lethargic, lightheaded and irritable.

Using my 6 steps to transform your day you will give you the tools to make sure your day starts smoothly and reduces stress.

3. Placing a Value on Your Time

You’ve heard the saying ‘Time is Money’ well I like to also say ‘My Time is Precious’ and we need to put a value on it.  This means that YOU CANNOT BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE ALL OF THE TIME!

Learning to say ‘No’ without feeling guilty is not easy but is so important in maintaining our health and happiness.  You need to be selective as to what you can and want to do and have the courage to say ‘No’ when you need to.

We only get one shot at life so we need to use our time wisely.

4. Quality Sleep

We can’t keep up the pace if we don’t get a good night’s sleep.  Waking refreshed is an important factor in what your day will be like.

Our bodies need sleep to regenerate and re-energise so make sure that you are getting enough.  Put the laptop and mobile phone in another room, make sure you relax your mind before settling down so you clear your mind of worries.

What can you change to make your day better?

No matter what I do I can never find time for myself

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 25, 2016 at 08:21

Yes it is hard but we have to try for our health and wellbeing. Have a lovely day and try to take at least 5 minutes to stop and think about yourself. xx

Putting the cellphone in another room is a good idea. If I keep it by the bed, I’ll keep looking at it. And cell phones are very bad to look at right before bed. or so I hear.

Hi Jeffrey I have started to do this with the mobile phone because I would wake up in the night and check it! I’m sleeping much better and feeling good about not being tied to the phone.

This ones going in my ‘Favorites’! Definitely need to get a good night’s sleep. AtoZ has made it a highly stimulating month so sleep took second place. Thanks, Sue! 🙂

Oh my gosh, you are so right. The morning generally does determine the type of day I’ll have. You offer so many awesome tips here! Getting enough sleep is a huge one too. If I don’t have a good night’s sleep my day is a disaster! Thanks so much for sharing this! Shared and pinned!

Hi Carolann! Thanks for sharing and pinning my post. Luckily, I’m a morning person I wake early even if I haven’t had a good night’s sleep but sometimes I just need my coffee to kick start my morning. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

I’m getting better at finding time for myself. It meant changing jobs and reducing my work hours. It also meant being content with less materially to have more time for my husband and for my own leisure – and it’s been worth every minute that I’ve gained. Time is such a valuable item 🙂

Yes you have achieved so much Leanne since I’ve know you this short time. It is great to see you happy and enjoying your life and soon to be grandmother status. Have a great week!

This is something I’ve been trying to incorporate into my life. I’ve started the lemon water last month, and I really love it. Spring is an easier time for me to get motivated to get out of bed earlier, the chirping birds cheer me on.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 25, 2016 at 08:29

Hi Erica! Yes lemon in water is a great way to start the day and you are right Springtime just feels motivating doesn’t it? We are going into Autumn where I live although it still feels like Summer. Fortunately our climate is temperate so winter doesn’t get too cold and we can still enjoy the outdoors. Have a lovely day!

These are great suggestions! I love using a planner to ensure that I make time for work, hobbies, and relationships. The next step will be to focus on making the most of my mornings. 🙂

You are SO SO right. Starting your own business is fun but at the same time so time consuming that the things you love are not existing anymore… THANKS SUE

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 25, 2016 at 08:35

Yes Annette you have been working hard and a business does take up a lot of your time especially if you want to be successful. However, you do need to get some time for yourself and life in each day. Have a beautiful day my friend. xxx

I’ve always had some problems with time management. So much to do and so much to distract me from doing it.
