It was a busy morning for me. I dropped my grandson to kindy at 7am, did a 40 minute workout and then visited my mother-in-law at her aged care facility. The choir were performing so it was a big deal and I’d promised to be there.
I came home and felt quite lazy so hubby kindly made me a coffee and I took time to walk out into the gorgeous winter sunshine and just enjoy sitting for a while.
Life can be hectic even when we are retired. Sometimes I wonder how I ever fitted full time work in and I think that is a common thought among retirees.
However, sometimes we just need to take a break from the world and enjoy some down time. Even 10 minutes sitting in the sunshine or your favourite chair and just clearing your mind can improve our health and wellness greatly.
I was sitting in the sunshine with the warmth of the sun’s rays and I was filled with happiness. I felt grateful to be alive, enjoying this simple yet wonderful moment.
I just sat and looked around the garden, the camellia’s are starting to bloom. A little angel was peeking through and even flowers which are probably weeds looked delicate.
I wandered to a neighbour’s house where a bush was blooming with gorgeous red flowers. All the while soaking up the rays of the sun and feeling mellow.
Sunshine can lift your mood immediately. The sun shining in a clear, blue winter’s sky was so soothing. I can understand why cats love to luxuriate in the sunshine and then have a good long stretch.
Do you take time to sit in the sunshine and just be?
Do you have a special place where you can sit and clear your mind?
Why not take some time out of today and enjoy the moment.

Beautiful garden shots, Sue. Even looking at the pictures of the sunshine on the flowers lifted my mood! 😀
Yes I really felt wonderful just sitting in the sunshine and the flowers are gorgeous at the moment even though it is winter here.
How pretty!! 🙂 Much different than Illinois winters – just lots of gray and brown in that season :-/ makes me appreciate summer all the more, though! 🙂
Yes we actually don’t have a distinct change in the seasons where I live Amber. It is hot in summer and then just a little milder during the other seasons. Hope you are enjoying your summer time now!
I like to take a minute — or two or three — to sit outside and enjoy life. I live in New York City and have a number of parks and park benches that are sitting perfect. So nice to discover your blog.
Hi Carol! I’ve visited New York a few times now and it is busy however, I did notice the parks and benches scattered throughout which was lovely. Thak you for visiting and pleased you like my blog. I hope you visit again. x
What beautiful flowers! Planning to take some time out this week to just sit and ‘be’ in the sunshine.
SSG xxx
Good for you SSG! It is a matter of just making up your mind to do it isn’t it? The flowers are so beautiful at the moment and make me feel happy and contented. Have a great week and take time to smell the roses xx
When I was a bit healthier than I am now (but I’ll be getting back there in time!) if I was early for work I’d go find a park or swing set and chill out for 10mins. It was really lovely.
Oh that is making the most of the morning isn’t it. It is lovely just to chill even if only for 10 minutes. Hope you have a beautiful week and thanks for stopping by, Vanessa xx
You’re so right Sue. This afternoon I left my phone and laptop in the kitchen and spent a few hours reading on my bed. It was so great! I forgot how wonderful it is to immerse yourself in another world and not be interrupted!
Isn’t it bliss Katherine? It is just a matter of making the effort to do it and to remover the phone that seems permanently stuck to our hand or ear LOL:) What are you reading? I’ve just finished ‘Me Before You’ plus a Jodie Picoult one ‘Handle with Care’.
I’m in the middle of reading Mark Colvin’s book Light and Shadow: A memoir of a spy’s son. It’s so great that I don’t want it to end!
Oh I’ve heard an interview on the ABC Radio ‘Conversation Hour’ when they replayed an interview with Mark. He had just passed away after a long illness and he was such an interesting man. I must get a copy to read. Thanks for the tip!
I’m so glad you found time to rest and relax Sue – especially with your Marathon weekend! Those flowers are lovely – it’s freezing over here in WA – so I’m sitting by the heater and enjoying my coffee – not quite sunshine, but better than nothing!
It was lovely Leanne just making the time to enjoy the sunshine and take a few moments. There certainly has been a cold snap especially down south. I think Canberra was -7 on the weekend. BRRRRR… Keep warm. x
I initially thought you’d written this today and was gobsmacked you’d done a 40min workout after yesterday’s run.
Thankfully I realise it’s not so I don’t feel quite as lazy or guilty!
I’m not a huge fan of the sunshine as I get hot easily but I appreciate it far more in winter!
Hi Deb! No I did 30 minutes of yoga this morning as my poor old body needed some stretching! I love winter sunshine and agree summer sun gets too hot for me. Have a great week!
I so agree, we need to take a breath and ‘just be’ sometimes. I’m on two weeks of holidays starting today, and although I have lots of work to catch up on, and some house chores I really need to get to, I’m planning lots of time to just relax and find time for myself. Beautiful garden, Sue! x
Oh that sounds perfect Linda I would take time out over household chores any day. Enjoy your holidays xx
Love the Hans Christian Anderson quote. Magic,
I love that quote too Leanne. Have a beautiful week and thanks for visiting. x
The house we are renting has a lovely covered verandah and when it’s not too cold or windy it is a delightful sun trap and I have spent time there. I am sure that when I am back home in recovery mode it will a favourite spot to get some sun and fresh air in. I am NOT looking forward to being bed-bound and inside BUT it’s for the right reasons and I have my iPad and iPhone loaded with all my fave photos and videos from family and nature so I shall lose myself in them from time to time! Thank you for your lovely words today. Thank you linking up….and I shall be back!! Denyse xx
Oh that sounds like a perfect spot to recover Denyse – the sun can be very healing and calming I find. Please take care, good luck with the surgery and I know all the blogging community eagerly await your return. xx
I probably don’t enjoy the sunshine enough… more of an indoors person. Thanks for the reminder. Lovely photos.
I do like my indoor time too Ness but sometimes it is such a beautiful day you just have to be outside. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the photos the flowers were just glorious. Have a beautiful day and thanks for stopping by to comment. x
So true Sue, and it is something that I am working on more after being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder last year.
Living in the now is a beautiful thing.
Hi Michelle, I get anxious sometimes although not classified as a disorder. I’m so pleased you are taking the time to be in the moment and taking a breath. Anxiety can be so stressful so you need to have some time out. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day. Take care xx
Oh yes, I love to sit out for a few minutes just soaking up a bit sunshine. Though summer isn’t necessarily my favourite season, the warmth is welcome. And of course, a bit of winter sunshine is sometimes just as nice. thanks for this post today, just what I needed to read today Sue. And thanks for linking up to #HighlightsofHappy
I’m so pleased you felt good after reading my thoughts Carol. Have a beautiful day and thanks for stopping by. x
