It’s time for my weekly sparks of Joy post and finding joy in ‘every day’ things. Thank you for the positive and supportive feedback about my Sparks of Joy posts. I’ve been starting these posts with a quote about Joy and this week it is my own quote which I provided during an interview about Midlife for a new book that has been published.
If people aren’t bringing you joy, if what you’re doing isn’t bringing you joy, you’ve got to have the courage to let it go – Sue Loncaric WLWA50 (Reimagining Midlife by Mary Eisenhauer)
Sparks of Joy this week #9 – #WWWhimsy
Joyful and proud to be included in a new book sharing my midlife story
I’m excited to share a new release Reimagining Midlife by Mary Eisenhauer. My copy has just arrived in the mail and my midlife story is included!
Reinvention in midlife sounds daunting, whether done by choice or necessity. Mary Eisenhauer interviewed dozens of women (including me!) to hear how they did it—and what they learned as they went back to school, embraced their passions, or reclaimed their true identities. Socioeconomic, cultural, interpersonal, and health-related factors have shaped these women and ultimately prepared them for reinvention in midlife. Each story is different, and each is inspiring. Available on Amazon Reimagining Midlife: Women Who Reinvented Themselves For Their Second Act : Eisenhauer, Mary: Amazon.com.au: Books
I’m honoured and humbled to have been interviewed by Mary to share my Midlife experience and my thoughts on ageing, starting over and coming into my own in my 60s.
It just goes to show that whilst me might not think we have a story – everyone has one and others are interested in hearing about it.

Our Gardening project update
Mike and I have almost completed the garden. I say ‘Mike and I’ but it is mainly him doing the work and letting me think I’m helping LOL:). This week we repotted some plants, bought more plants and our fairy lights are up! Next will be fertalizing and fixing some lattice to the fence for our bouganvillea and mandevilles to climb up. Gardening is so soothing and I just love looking at the flowers and other plants growing. The mandevilles are gorgeous and so prolific. The colour we selected was Burgundy which is such a rich colour.

Feeling back in the exercise groove – Working out with a friend via Zoom
Last week I got serious again about working out having been a little off track lately or just doing the bare mimimum. When I don’t feel active, fit and healthy I don’t feel good mentally but sometimes it can seem like a chore rather than something I enjoy. for a few months now, a friend and I have been messaging or emailing each other our workout updates as a way to keep us focussed. I took it a step further and we decided to work out together once a week via Zoom. It as a great way to see each other, catch up and get a workout done. We’ve booked another session in for this Thursday. For a couple of years I did this with three blogging friends which was a wonderful way to stay connected. Unfortunately, I had to stop when I was having a healthy scare last year and we haven’t been able to resume. Who knows maybe in 2025???
Staying fit isn’t a glamorous look but looking after my health and fitness so I can enjoy life is a priority. I want to be able to be an ‘active Nan’ keeping up with my grandsons, enjoying travelling with my husband and just getting the most out of each day.

The unexpected encouragement of others
I was pleasantly surprised when this post showed up in my High School FB group. Out of the blue and it certainly made my day. Have you thought to congratulate someone recently, ‘just because’. It’s about women uplifting women, encouraging and supporting each other.

A ‘new do’ and Wearing a new top in my favourite colour for a lunch date with my darling.

When I finished this post, I realised it was ‘all about me’ which of course we’ve been taught growing up not to ‘shine the light on ourselves’. Then I saw this quote and thought it’s not about me building myself up or showing off, it’s about showing what we can do and achieve in life and hopefully I’ve inspired and encouraged you to do the same.
“Don’t let others tell you what you can’t do. Don’t let the limitations of others limit your vision. If you can remove your self-doubt and believe in yourself, you can achieve what you never thought possible.” – Roy T. Bennett
Have you had sparks of joy this week? Have you achieved something or done something to be proud of? I’d love you to share them with me.

What a lovely post Sue, all about you!! Congrats on being included in the book, you’re the perfect midlife woman to be involved. Your garden is looking fabulous too. So much JOY in this post. #Teamwwwhimsy
Thanks, Deb. I had actually forgotten about the book as I was interviewed quite some time ago. I still don’t feel I’m anything special but it was lovely to be included and to share my story. x
We do tend to think ‘I’m just living my life, not doing anything special’ yet others see it differently. They are impressed by whatever it is you are doing….and I’m definitely impressed with what you are now doing with your life Sue
You really look good in your ‘favourite’ colour- it suits you well.
Hi Cathy, it is true that we don’t tend to think our life is anything special, yet others see us all differently. Thank you for your lovely words of encouragement. Yes, Pink is my colour when I need a boost although yesterday I wore an orange and white swirl pattern with a hint of purple and that certainly popped! x
Nothing wrong about writing about you! Love that quote.
Thanks, Barbara! x
I think you are an amazing woman, Sue! You have accomplished so much as well as being a role model for many of us! I’m so happy for you being featured in this book. I really need to discover a workout that works for me and get busy with it.

Hi Marsha, thank you so much for your kind words. Lately, I haven’t felt on my game so it is a huge lift when someone like yourself is so supportive. There are so many ways to find a workout that suits you and I’m sure you will x
Sue,
Congrats!!! I look for joy in every day and some days, the joy is that the day is over…I am sure that you have had those days too!

Jill – Doused in Pink
Hello Jill, lovely to meet you and thanks for visiting to leave a comment. I will have to pop over to see you on your website too. I was very excited to be included in the book because most times, many of us feel we don’t really have a story to tell. x
Hi Sue, congratulations on having your interview included in the book sharing your midlife story! That is fabulous! I’ll have to get a copy so I can read it all. Your garden is looking gorgeous and I adore fairy lights – they create such a nice ambiance! Well done on getting back into your fitness and so nice you have a friend to do it with even if by zoom. That is so nice to get that recognition and compliment from an old school friend. Unexpected kind gestures can be so uplifting and inspire you to keep going. See – you’re doing great! Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy ! xo
Thanks so much for your kind words, Min. Since starting this series, I’ve certainly pepped up in my mindset. Probably because I’m putting the focus on the positives in life. Sending hugs to you and glad you managed to get to Tambourine for a day. xx
WOW indeed Sue.
Such a lovely post and for your name being out there for more to read your story is a huge compliment.Loved the North Sydney GHS shout out very much!
As for the garden and all, it’s looking very cheerful and such a great addition to the outside. Thanks Mike!
Just a wonderful post Sue..be proud of yourself…I think it’s great how you doing.
Take care,
Denyse #TeamWWWhimsy
Thanks, Denyse. I’m enjoying my Sparks of Joy series and taking time to reflect on the positives. Mike has done a great job on the garden and it is lovely to sit out there for breakfast or lunch. I was surprised at the NSGHS comment as it came out of the blue. Thanks so much for your lovely words. x
Congrats to getting featured in that book, so well deserved!
Your flower boxes look so neat and beautiful. I always strive towards a beautifuly tidy-ish garden but whatever I do it will probably always be half wild!
There’s nothing wrong with writing about you and sharing your achievements. You say it perfectly, it’s about sharing, and inspiring others. I often feel like that about my blog and fitness posts, but think that if we share these things, people will see what is possible! Keep writing!
Hi Susanne, lovely to hear from you and hope all is well in your world. I was honoured to be featured with other women in Reimaging Midlife and it reminded me that we all have a story to tell. Have a lovely week. x
Hi, Sue – I have ordered my copy of Reimaging Midlife and cannot wait to read it. Huge congratulations to you and team!
Oh thanks, Donna for your support. x
Congratulations on the profile in the book. How exciting!! And as for the not shining a light on ourselves, I wonder if that was just women? It’s such a disservice to pretend you aren’t proud of your abilities and achievements. #WWWHimsy
Hi Lydia, being interviewed for the book and sharing my midlife story was exciting. I feel that women don’t like to ‘sing their praises’ and probably goes back to the time when women were meant to quietly support the man and family. x
Your sparks of joy brought a smile to my face! It’s so good for our soul to find the joy – in the BIG and small moments of life! Have a great week, Sue!
Thanks, Laura, I’m glad I could make you smile. x
Kudos for sharing your story and for reimagining your life. Your school alumni post highlighting you is well deserved. You are full of joy and spark for life. I too am back in the exercise groove. If we could ever make the time thing work out I would love to work out with you on Zoom. It might be the spark I need so it doesn`t seem like something I “should`do rather than want to do. Bernie
Thanks, Bernie it was pretty exciting to be included with such inspiring women. It would be lovely to work out together wouldn’t it? x
Congrats!
I had a not so good day today and it was nice to read about good things. In my jewelry forum, I have started an ongoing thread some time ago, called “Share the good”, and it keeps reminding me to find the small goodies when overwhelmed by the (often also) small bad stuff!

Hello Cat, I’m so pleased my post came at the right time during a not so good day. I love your idea of ‘share the good’. It is amazing how when we focus on event the smallest positive thing in our life, we feel so much better. Take care, Sue xx
