Life In Full Bloom

Sparks of Joy #33 – The promise of blooming

May 21, 2025

As I walked out onto our patio to enjoy a new day over my morning coffee, I discovered something exciting. A surprise that filled my heart with joy and hope.

My orchid is showing tiny buds again! Not just one bud but several!

They haven’t opened yet — but they’re there, quietly forming, full of promise. I know the blooms are coming. I just have to wait. I had given up on seeing future blooms as the orchid has been lying dormant since we moved from the Gold Coast almost three years ago.

I should have had faith.

The Promise of Blooming

This small discovery once again reminded me of how sparks of joy can be found in daily life. It also reminded me about life and how there is always hope.

Isn’t that how it feels for many of us after 50?

There are moments when we’re not quite in full bloom — but we sense something awakening. A stirring of joy. A whisper of new beginnings.

Those little “buds” in our lives — a new interest, a regained confidence, an idea that sparks excitement — remind us that it’s never too late to grow, to change, to flourish.

The anticipation is part of the beauty.

We’re blooming — one bud at a time. Have faith in yourself.

I can’t wait to return from our holiday as my orchid should be blooming magnificently.

How are you living life in full bloom? Are you ready for new beginnings?

Have a beautiful week.

Thanks, Deb! You are quick this morning. I wrote the post looking out at the morning from our apartment in Caloundra. I’m excited about my orchid! Have a lovely day and keep blooming. xx

I must remember your wise words! We are both sick here so feeling a bit down (just seems one thing after another this year!).

Hi Sue, such a lovely post. New buds on an orchid would certainly spark joy and hope in me. It’s the little things like this that keep us going isn’t it? Thanks for linking up with us at #WWWhimsy and I hope you have a wonderful week at the coast and return to a beautifully blooming orchid (hope you take photos!). xo

Hi Min, sorry for the late reply. The orchid buds are slowly opening and we will have about 7 flowers! There is also another stalk growing! Very happy x

I think I’m in resting mode right now as I let my emotions, brain, and soul rest. I am eager to bloom, though. I hope you have a lovely vacation!

Sue, I love that…and I remember 50. It was the same year my 2nd granddaughter was born….26 years ago….My story about turning 50 is that I was a school principal in my first subtantive role. When I was asked what did I want for my birthday I said for Mum to cook us a baked dinner and one of her birthday cakes for me. She did. And she was my age now.
As for nature. We do need to notice and it’s a joy to do so.
B and 4 granddaughters have all planted a container of spring bulbs each here last holidays and we are sending progress shots for them to see.
    Take care,
    Denyse

Hi Denyse, I’m starting Elliot’s birthday cake next and can’t believe he will be 7. Our orchid has 7 buds so I’m very excited. x

I l9ove this Sue. I understand the excitement of an orchid flower. Mum passed her orchids on to me a few years ago, and they cause excitement each year as the buds start to open.

They do surprise you don’t they? We thought our orchid was dying but it is certainly blooming now! x

I love this analogy, Sue, and all the hope and joy it offers! I have an important anniversary coming up later this week and each year I’m reminded of the gifts each day presents and today your post helped me look at it in a new way. Have a lovely holiday!

I’m so pleased my post helped, Laura. Small gifts of joy can add up to a bucket full of joy! xx

Lovely post! And very clever you to grow an orchid (or keep it alive to bloom!). I think you and I are opposite ends of the spectrum today. Ha. You are, of course, more cheery and positive 🙂 Enjoy your holiday!

I’m so excited about the orchid, Lydia as we thought we had lost it. It has 7 buds plus another stalk! Maybe my thumbs has a very, very slight shade of green LOL:) x
