Self Worth & The Importance of Celebrating Your Successes

August 9, 2021

Self-worth – how would you rate yours? Do you sometimes feel that you aren’t good enough? I know I used to feel that way for many years – sometimes I still do.

I know I used to feel that way for many years – sometimes I still do.  I’m not sure who set the bar in society, but as a teenager and well into my life, I always felt I wasn’t quite enough.

I also know that growing up it wasn’t really the ‘done thing’ to be proud of yourself and your achievements. The saying, ‘pride comes before a fall’ was often quoted. So different to today where I think we have gone too far the other way.  Children are congratulated for just showing up rather than teaching them to be proud of the effort they put in.

In this week’s episode of Micro Mondays I share my thoughts

  • on how to value yourself and be confident living life your way
  • why celebrating your successes are so important to building confidence and resilience
  • an exercise for you to recognise your value as a unique and wonderful woman and
  • a daily evening ritual based on your ‘small wins’

On August 1, 2020 I pressed the GO LIVE button on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast. I’m celebrating my first anniversary of the podcast and over 10,000 downloads in the podcast. For someone who has always battled with self confidence (or lack of), I took a giant leap out of my comfort zone and I’m so pleased I did. I’m grateful to all of my listeners and ‘cheerleaders’ who have supported me and continue to support the podcast.

Self respect, Self worth & Self Love all start with ‘self’. Stop looking outside yourself for value.

P,S, I was delighted to contribute to a newspaper article in The Age newspaper. It happened after my podcast recording but wanted to share another little success here in the post.

I am still working on this concept, Sue, and at times in my career. I have heard it called at times ‘the imposter syndrome.’ Many gems and wisdom in this post and podcast. At times I have wondered whether self-worth is cultural. Also, the concept of sharing our successes or trying to keep things understated may be influenced by our culture.

I greatly admire your courage to go for it. Congratulations on the milestone of your podcast! I look forward to reading the newspaper article. xx

I suppose I have developed courage Erica because I’m constantly trying things out of my comfort zone. The podcast is a project I really enjoy and I love meeting women who have a story to share. xx
