Self-Care in September is my monthly theme and I’m taking my own advice by taking a break from blogging. My husband and I will be going on a Cruise of Alaska and a tour of the Canadian Rockies. Although I’m taking a break, I have decided to still have a theme for September and have used the facility of scheduling my weekly posts as well as those of my guests who are contributing their thoughts to Self-Care. You won’t even know I’m gone!
The most important part of Self-Care is recognising when you need it and taking action.
I’ve had an extremely busy year with moving house, studying for my Fitness Certificate, completing a Lifestyle Coaching and Health Coaching Certificate, minding my grandsons weekly, training for three half-marathons and a 36km run, being a Coach for the monthly 21 day Body Blitz and of course blogging.
My body and mind are telling me that they need a rest and I’m listening!
Do you ever feel you are losing your mojo or that you just need a break to reconnect with yourself and your partner?
Women’s Health Week is 2-6th September and one of the messages is to ‘press pause on the busy button’. Most of you know that I can’t help myself, I enjoy being involved and sometimes try to fit more into life to the detriment of my well-being. Once I start feeling like everything is a chore and my ‘mojo’ just isn’t there I know it is time to step back.
Self-Care in September
As in previous months, I will be posting a daily tip for Self-Care in the Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond Facebook Group. That is 30 ways to incorporate Self-Care into your day and improve your well-being. Weekly I will be publishing a round up of the week’s tips and also a post for a guest. I would still love to read your comments but have decided that I won’t respond as that is part of taking a break.

A great theme, Sue. I extra like your heading photo. The “Self-care” before the melt down is key for me. A lesson from the toddlers in my life:) You are a great example and inspiring of all that is possible, Sue. Yet, I appreciate you sharing your vulnerability. I look forward to reading and absorbing September’s gems. Enjoy this wonderful holiday!
I loved that image too Erica as I think it was a perfect way to describe self-care. I’m not afraid to share my feelings and I do know when I need a break so looking forward to our holiday. xx
What a great list. Def going to prioritise some of those – like the massage! Ha! #MLSTL
I am going to prioritise a massage too Lydia as I never seem to get around to doing that! Have a great month of Self-Care xx
Hi Sue – A great theme for September which is a transition month from one season to another. I look forward to reading more on this. Soon we’ll be packing for our trip 🙂 #MLSTL
I know Natalie, our meeting will be here before we know it! xx
I think September is the perfect time to practice self-care. We are transitioning into a new season. For some of us, that means we must be especially mindful of what we must do to make successful transitions. Thanks for all the great tips. I’m copying them down.
It is a lovely time of year Sally and where I live it is Spring so the promise of new things to come. I’m pleased you liked the tips and hope you will find them useful. Have a lovely day and thanks for stopping by. xx
Sue, I’ve been using your August calendar as daily journal prompts – for reflection and inspiration – ,and plan to do similarly with these. Maybe not your specific intent, but I’m liking it! Thanks you for them. Enjoy your time away from the computer!
Hi Pat, I’m so pleased you have found the prompts useful and I hope that this continues in September. Yes, I’m looking forward to the break and enjoying time with my husband who is very patient with me and my blogging 🙂
Hi Sue, That sounds great and just what I need. Toni x
Yes it certainly is what I need, Toni and I’m looking forward to the break. xx
Hi Sue, your cruise and tour sounds so absolutely fabulous. You must be so excited! Self Care is very important so it’s a great idea to create a month of self-care prompts! I’m like you and tend to overwhelm myself with too much to do so over the years I’ve learnt what self care works best for me. I could always do better though! I hope you have a wonderful trip and look forward to seeing pics and hearing all about it. Do make sure you switch off from the blog & social media and enjoy the moments! xo
I know Min, Alaska and Canada have been on our list for quite some time so it is exciting to be finally getting there. I will be sharing photos probably (can’t help myself) but I’m going to really try and not let SM or the blog take over and interfere with the experience. xx
What a great list Sue. I think as Spring approaches it’s really important to do a bit of a spring clean of values. Winter for us means lots of sitting around a log fire with glasses of red wine and good TV series! Which is kind of self care, but not really! More hibernation! As Spring starts blooming life gets busier and we forget to do things which will sustain us. I loved one of your lead in quotes – “The most important part of Self-Care is recognising when you need it and taking action,” which is absolutely spot on – and the point is to be self aware enough to know that point in time, before any kind of downward spiral takes place. #MLSTL and Shared on SM – Pinned
Hi Jo, thank you for your lovely comment and I know that I generally put too much pressure on myself because I try to give 110% in all that I do. However, my mind and body certainly tells me these days when I need to take a break so I’m looking forward to exploring with my husband. xx
Congratulations on taking a well-deserved rest, Sue. This is fantastic modelling for the rest of us. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.
Shared on my Social Media. #MLSTL
Thanks my friend and I can’t wait to see you. It is getting very exciting now. xx
Sounds like Self Care in September is the perfect theme for you Sue. The daily prompts are great. Your trip sounds fabulous so I know you we enjoy it.
Yes Jen I thought it fit very well with me taking some time off to enjoy life with Mike. I’m getting excited now. xx
Another good theme. I’m looking forward to following along (virtually speaking) with your holiday… enjoy, you deserve it.
Thanks Jo and yes I’m looking forward to the break. I know that it is self-imposed pressure that I put on myself but am always torn because I’m a 110% girl and sometimes 100% is enough. Enjoy the rest of your week. xx
Have the very best time showering yourself with some self care. Looking forward to this series and all the great suggestions and tips it is sure to provide. Safe, wonderful travels.
Hi Leslie, yes I’m looking forward to my holiday and that is my number 1 self-care tip for myself. Hope you enjoy the series. xx
Hi Sue, I love the list for September! Self care is something that we can set aside too often, particularly if we’re people pleasers. So this is a wonderful month of reminders. And, I’m happy to hear that you’re going to step back from comments while on vacation…good for you! xo
HI Candi, you just can’t do it all can you? I’ve certainly been extending myself this year in many areas so I’m looking forward to my break. xx
A well deserved break indeed – but so typical of you to have everything set up in advance and rolling on through September so the blogging world won’t even know you’re away on a fabulous holiday! Enjoy all that self-care, enjoy time with Mike, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and just enjoy life with no stress for a few weeks xxxx
PS: Shared for MLSTL and I’ll miss you while you’re away xx
I’m still finalising Leanne but I will be able to go away feeling that I’ve left everything in place. I’m still considering whether to take an actual full break from blogging in October and enjoy the benefits of my holiday. I’ll be in touch but yest will miss our chats. xx
Hi Sue,
A comprehensive list. I don’t think there is anything that needs to be added.
Thanks a lot. I have saved it, and I am going to take a printout and hang it on the wall.
I have had numerous occasions when I had to pause, introspect, make some course corrections so that I am cheerful and therefore more energetic and productive in my life.
(#MLSTL. I have shared the post on my social media.)
Hi Sue, I am so happy that you will be unplugging and getting away for some rest and relaxation. I haven’t been to Alaska or the Canaian Rockies, but it is on the bucket list for sure. Don’t worry about a thing- go and enjoy your vacation. You have more than earned it!
Hi Michele, yes I’m looking forward to visiting Alaska and Canada as they have been on our list for some time. I am finally learning that my blogging friends will still be here when I get back so no pressure to keep going. I’m in countdown mode now.x
Hi Sue, it’s so good that you are taking your own advice and setting the example for the rest of us. I think we often underestimate the importance and necessity of self care and feel guilt if we put ourselves first. As women we are nurturers and it’s automatic for us to put ourselves last. It’s been a life long issue for me since I had to take on a lot of responsibilities for family as a teenager due to my mothers ill health and it’s hard to break the habit, but I am becoming wiser about the need for it and one of my sayings is you can’t pour from an empty cup. So true! I love your prompts for each day, although challenging, but that’s the point really. I know you and Mike will have a fabulous time away on your very well deserved holiday. Enjoy my lovey friend. Xx
Thank you Christine and it has been so wonderful connecting with you over the last year. I can certainly see that you have taken onboard many of the ideas we have discussed and now I need to do the same. I’m getting excited now. xx
You still fit more into a week than many people do into a whole month. Blogging breaks are good, I’ve taken them myself and the longest one last a month. And that was a month of not publishing anything. I hope you enjoy your cruise!

Thanks Jennifer and yes I’m looking forward to the break. x
Hi Sue – what an absolute dynamo you are! I love the theme for the month and am with you on the importance of taking a break every now and again. The tips are all so useful to us and I want to say thank you for your input and support to everyone who you come into contact with. Have a great holiday, rest and come back recharged. xx
Thanks Deb although sometimes the dynamo needs charging! Thank you for your beautiful words and I’m so pleased you are my friend. I’m getting excited now only 10 sleeps to go! xx
Hi Sue,
This is a very important list for September…and I will be following it closely as a little self-care is order for me.
Enjoy your little break, we all need one, but I am so impressed that you have scheduled everything well in advance. Not sure I have that dedication.
I EXPECT to see photos of you and Donna together!!!
Hi Nancy, yes I’m looking forward to my break and can go away feeling relaxed that all the posts are scheduled. Yes you will see photos of Donna and I that is for sure. xx
