I’ve noticed quite a few posts on social media about the Colour of the Year for 2020. It’s Classic Blue Do you tend to follow trends or just wear colours you love? I love bright colours although I have recently purchased a couple of navy and white tops – classic colours.
Christine Blundell from My Private Stylist (and Fashion Editor for Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond) shares her thoughts below on the Colour for 2020.
Pantone’s Colour for 2020
Would you like a styling session? Keep reading to find out more
“When Pantone announced Classic Blue as their 2020 colour of the year at first I was very underwhelmed. I like many others was expecting a colour that elicited at least a modicum of emotion. I had to investigate.
Pantone wrote that Classic blue instils calm, confidence, and connection while highlighting our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.
And there it was…clever really.
Pantone had recognized that as our blue planet tilts on the verge of a new decade it is plagued with threats unlike any we’ve seen before. We are surrounded by political and environmental uncertainty. Narcissism, greed and plunder are rampant and even our children are worried.
If there was ever a time we needed blue it’s now.
Looking closer at Pantone’s classic blue it is actually also partly green – so not a true blue at all, but I think that makes it even more appealing and flattering to more people.
Broken down Pantone’s Classic blue is a cool to neutral colour, contains a little green, is neither a clear or neutral colour (Sat 46) and is medium dark in depth.
These traits make Pantone’s Classic Blue GREAT for the following colour directions:
~ COOL clear
~ COOL muted
~ LIGHT cool
~ SOFT cool
~ DARK cool
GOOD for
~ BRIGHT cool (wear with a strong colour contrast)
~ BRIGHT WARM (same as above)
~ LIGHT warm (same as above)
~ SOFT warm
ACCEPTABLE for
~ WARM muted (wear with a warm colour)
~ WARM clear (wear with a strong warm colour)
~ DARK warm (wear with a warm colour)”
Will you be including this colour in your wardrobe palette?

Hi Sue,
I follow fashion trends/colors NOT AT ALL! LOL. I just buy what speaks to me or looks good on my long, lean bod. I tend to like classics as they are always in style and I don’t have to worry about looking “dated.” But, as I said, I don’t really worry about it.
Hi Nancy, I’m like you and tend to stick with classics and things that I like rather than following specific trends. I do love this shade of blue though. xx
Blue is my favorite color, and this shade is particularly appealing to me. I will definitely be looking for it.
Hi Suzanne, I love this particular shade of blue most of all so I’m happy with the 2020 Colour. x
