My Workout with a Trainer to the Stars

Saturdays are usually my morning that I run with my Saturday Sisters but last week, we decided to mix it up a little with a short run and then the opportunity to work out with Michelle Bridges for FREE!

Michelle Bridges, has made her name with personal training celebrities in Australia, being a trainer on the Australian version of Biggest Loser and also has a 12WBT Body transformation program.

Working out with her was something we didn’t want to miss so we compromised on the run by 5km then doing the 45 minute workout.  It was great to see many people taking advantage of the free session and we felt a little star struck having our photo taken with her and also getting an autograph.  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take photos of the session in progress.  However, you can see by my hair that I did work out!!!

What a great session!

We started with a 5 minute warm up – running on the spot, then some arms and just general warm up exercises. Michelle reminded us that although we were there to work it was also meant to be fun and to take things at our own pace.  There were various ages groups and people of all fitness levels present so we needed to make sure it wasn’t a competition and just worked at our own pace.  It was all about moving and feeling good!

The next part of the session was Tabata – this is a form of exercise is high intensity for short periods, where you go as hard as you can and then rest.  We divided into four groups and each group was given an exercise to do.

Running – Squats – Push Ups – Crunches

We did 20 seconds of the exercise, 10 seconds rest four times through.  Then we moved to the next set until each group had completed all of the different exercises.

Onto running around in a big circle one way and then back the other.  Sliding sideways one way and then the other.  Oh, and of course the dreaded burpees which I just know everyone hates doing!  It is a full body exercise, but as I am experiencing problems with my lower back, surprise, surprise, I actually did the  modified version instead of going all out and then probably not being able to move!

Back into Groups.  In a straight line, we had to hold a plank while the person on the end of the line crawled through.  I felt like I was back in boot camp!

The last part of the session involved core work and some yoga poses for core strength.

To complete the session we did stretching and suddenly the session was over.  45 minutes just flew by and although it was hard going, I felt such elation at the end.

A quick photo opportunity and book signing by Michelle and then we ran home.

This was a wonderful initiative by Medibank as in addition to the free session with Michelle, we all received a free hand towel, water and a copy of the Medibank be magazine which is full of ways to incorporate better health into our lives.

So now I can say I’ve worked out with a trainer to the stars and survived!

      Oh I wish I could workout with her every week Donna it was great. I had a personal trainer for 5 years who was just wonderful and my husband and I both miss her sessions. She really could get the best out of both of us. Hope you like the workout tips in the post.

    It sounds like a great time, Sue. There’s nothing like a tough workout with friends–and a star! I’m honestly not aware of any free workout groups near me, but now you have me curious, I’m going to do a little research and find out.

      We are very lucky Christie as the local council is always putting on free events in the Southbank area This event was part of a weekly free fitness programme sponsored by Medibank Private (a health fund). There was also yoga, aqua aerobics and other activities each week from Jan to March. I loved the work out it felt hard but great at the same time! Have a beautiful week, Christie xx

    Working out with someone who really knows there stuff is so energising – you’ve reminded me that I need and must do more group training one way or another because I’m far too lax on my own. Seems like you had a wonderful session with Michelle, and you are looking very fit!

      It was a fabulous session JO and yes running with my Saturday Sisters or working out in Bootcamps is so much more motivating than on my own. x

    Good on you Sue! I bet you had fun despite the hard workout. I’ve worked out with Michelle Bridges too and I have photos of me with her (but not from the workout – it was from a book signing in Brisbane). I did a few rounds of 12WBT in 2011/2012 and went to Melbourne for a Finale party and the workout that comes before it. #TeamLovinLife

    Good grief – I’m exhausted just reading about what you did (with a run thrown in on top of things!) You never cease to amaze me Sue – I’ll look forward to the tips you have to share later – maybe they’ll be more my speed 🙂

      It was a little hard going Leanne but there were people from all fitness levels who did the class. It was just a matter of doing what you could manage. I felt exhilarated afterwards and now I wish I could work out with her every week. It has really spurred me on. xx

      Hi Lyndall! It was a fabulous session and there were so many in the group, all at different fitness levels we all just worked at our own pace. Of course, I’m one who has to push myself to the limit but boy I felt great after it! I wish she had classes every week in Brisbane, I would definitely be there!

    I did 12WBT a couple of times back in 2011 – 2012 and went to one of the training sessions and finale party with Michelle Bridges. I must admit though I’m not a huge fan and I’m not sure why. I think she can be a bit hard-core and dismissive though I know people say she’s a big softie.

    I actually didn’t even queue to get a pic or anything but met some great people (mainly on Twitter at the time) via the program!

      I think she was pretty hard-core on Biggest Loser Deb but she was great in the session I did. Encouraging and also making sure everyone just worked at the level they were capable of. Maybe becoming a Mum has also toned down her attitude a little. 🙂

    I’m exhausted even reading this Sue! What a fabulous opportunity, but I doubt whether my fitness would be up to scratch to match Michelle Bridges. Good on you, I bet you showed them all up. #TeamLovinLife
