My Summer Bucket List Update

Summer Bucket List

Summer Bucket List

Summer has been hot in Australia with some areas reaching over 40C.  Rain has been scarce although we had some spectacular storms around New Year.  Where I live in Brisbane, Australia the skies are a glorious blue with sunshine each day and my time spent at the Coast was so relaxing.

The festivities of Christmas and New Year seem like a distant memory and yet it is only a month ago that we were all enjoying time with family and friends and celebrating this magical time of year.

At the beginning of Summer I put together a list of things I would like to achieve over the summer months and linked up with Leslie from Once Upon A Time, Happily Ever After and some other bloggers, to share our Summer or Winter (depending where you live) Bucket Lists.

This is my progress report and so far so good.

Health  & Wellbeing

No New Year’s Resolutions – I have stuck to my plan of not making any New Year Resolutions (you can read here why I don’t) but rather chose my word for the year which is THRIVE!  I’m excited about my ‘word’ because to me thriving means you have most of your ‘ducks in a row’ and although one might swim away occasionally, life is pretty good.  A New Year and no resolutions but some new active/swimwear which I was kindly given by HydroChic to review.  Just the colours made me feel motivated!

Listening to my body – I have been very patient, which is unusual for me and have been going to the osteopath for my back which has improved greatly.  I’m now getting back into running (but keeping a slower pace for the moment), walking, yoga, stretching and rolling.  I can’t believe how good my back feels.

Enjoying life – I’ve not been as successful restarting my morning rituals of meditation and reflection so this remains a work in progress.

Alcohol Free –  My goal of alcohol free 5 days per week is going quite well and actually I’m not really missing it.  My goal is to stick to this on a regular basis but of course if there is a celebration or if I feel like a glass then I’m not going to deny myself.  It is all about moderation.  I’m going to try some ‘mocktails’ and my friend suggested filling a tall glass with coconut water, lime juice and ice – just no vodka!

Over the Summer holidays I did indulge in my passion of reading however I didn’t manage to revisit Jane Austen or the Bronte Sisters so they remain on my list. I have just finished an epic, Column of Fires by Ken Follett, an historical drama about England, France, Spain and the Netherlands during Queen Elizabeth I and the religious conflict between Catholics and Prostestants.  I enjoyed it immensely but you certainly have to be in the right mood to read it.

Another author I’ve just discovered is Celeste Ng and I loved her book ‘Little Fires Everywhere’.  Easy to read so perfect for the holidays.  Also on the list was ‘Once Gone’ by Blake Pierce and ‘Mourning Gloria’ by Andrew Downs both crime/drama genres but I quite enjoyed them.

Family & Friends

Summer Bucket List

December was very busy for catching up with friends for lunch and it seemed every week we had a different engagement.  It was good to enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends we hadn’t seen for some time. We had our traditional ‘blended family’ Christmas get-together and all the grandchildren were very happy with their Santa Sacks.  Christmas Day was spent with my daughter and a host of others which was just lovely.  My 3.5y.o. grandson was beside himself with excitement.

I must admit, as lovely and special as December was, Mike and I were glad to be heading to the Coast for some relaxing time together.

Taking a Break – Hubby and I had a wonderful 10 days at our ‘other home’ on the Gold Coast.  A couple of stormy afternoons but otherwise the weather was gorgeous and perfect for chillaxing by the beach or on the balcony.  I took time away from blogging and have come back feeling refreshed with some new ideas.

A New Look for my Website – This wasn’t on my list but over the break I ‘dabbled’ and came up with a new look for my website.  I designed a new Home page and revamped the ‘About Me’ page.  I’d love you to take a look and give me your feedback.

A New Link Party just for Midlife Lifestyle Bloggers – my new link party with my friend Leanne, from Cresting the Hill which will be exclusively for Midlife Lifestyle bloggers, starts Wednesday 31st January!  So we are ready to go.  If you are an Over 45 blogger who doesn’t blog about recipes or craft but rather writes about experiences in midlife and beyond then we would love you to link up with us.

A new series of guest writers – My ‘Over 50 & Thriving’ Guest Series has commenced and I have had a wonderful response.  My guest writers have all provided a different slant on what Thriving means to them and the bonus for me is that I get fabulous ladies writing for my blog and I’m learning from them.

A new FREE e-book – I have been procrastinating about this and finally sat down and put together my free e-book to subscribers titled:  ’10 Ways to start THRIVING today’.  I would love you to subscribe to my blog and receive a copy to help you start Thriving in 2018.

What’s next for the rest of Summer?

I’ve made a good start to my bucket list for Summer mainly because I didn’t overload myself with high expectations.  I haven’t added to my list.  My main goal is to relax, restore and revive my mind, body and soul which we all need regularly and I’m happy with my progress.

What is on your Winter/Summer Bucket List?  I’d love to hear from you, so leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Let’s Keep Sizzling & Thriving

A great article, and love your new home page. I hope that you continue to thrive in 2018 – I’m certainly trying to stay focused on doing that. My main goal is to make time for everything in my life and not just my main obsessions.

Thanks Toni for your continuing support. I love your goal and yes, some things like websites and blogs can become obsessions!x

Well, we’ve been sailing along here with almost-summer like weather until yesterday, when temps dropped into the low 50’s, or about 10 degrees Celsius. So, for the first time I am now officially envious of your summer weather down there! And yes, I know you’ll be chilling once we start sweating here in S. California, USA come July, but still! .

Love the summertime photos, Sue, and in particular the ones of how you do Christmas in the southern hemisphere. And also find your fitness shares in mid-life very, very inspiring. This is the first year in several, thanks to menopause, that I’m feeling like my old self again, and I’ve missed her. So far this month I’ve logged something like 60 hiking and running miles, and 30 biking miles. I’m still remiss in adding in weight lifting and yoga, but I’m working on it!

Hi Tamara! We are pretty lucky in Brisbane, because our winters are very mild and full of sunshine and blue skies. I’m so pleased you are inspired by my fitness shares and you sound like you have been doing some pretty serious training yourself. I’ve become a convert to yoga over the last year and although I don’t do it every day I try at least 2 – 3 times per week. It is very settling for me. Have a great week and I’ll be over to read your post about Winter soon. xx

  • Reply Christie Hawkes January 22, 2018 at 06:05

It sounds like you are making great progress on your bucket list, Sue. As always, I’m inspired by you. I am looking forward to the new link party. Since I’m not particularly crafty, but love reading experience-related blogs, it sounds like a perfect fit for me. Someone else recently recommended “Little Fires Everywhere,” so I guess I’m going to have to add that one to my list.

Here’s to another month of thriving!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 22, 2018 at 07:46

Thank you Christie! I feel happy when someone says I inspire them. You are going to be the perfect fit for our link party and Leanne and I are quite excited about it. It may not have huge numbers but the whole purpose is to read and comment and share everyone’s so we are supporting each other. Have a great week and I know you will enjoy the book. It was the second Celeste Ng book I have read and the first one was intriguing also.xx

  • Reply Michael Ann January 22, 2018 at 11:41

Wow, Sue! There’s so much good stuff here! Thanks for the book recommendations. I’ll scope those out and see if they’d be good reads for me. I’ll also keep an eye out for your new linkup. I’m 48 and enjoy writing about travel and experiences. I do talk about food too, so I’m not totally sure I’ll fit your parameters! Your trip to the beach sounds wonderful! I’m getting a little antsy for the beach again. It won’t be long! We’ll warm back up in no time! We’ve actually had some cool temps this winter, and I’m SO grateful!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 22, 2018 at 12:06

I’m so pleased you found it useful and interesting Michael Ann. Our link up is more about lifestyle so your travel would be great. It is just there are so many link up parties for recipes, craft and yummy mummies but not so many for my style of blog. So the solution was to start one. I’d love your travel pieces so feel free to link up. Starts next week on 31st! Have a great week and it won’t be long until you are wishing for cooler weather again ha! ha! xx

Sounds like you’ve made great progress on your list, Sue. You’re smart to take a break and enjoy your time on the Gold Coast. The ocean is always powerful, including its healing and renewal power. I look forward to your new link up and your next update.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 22, 2018 at 14:22

I love being near the ocean Natalie although surprisingly I don’t go into it very often. I’m looking forward to the new link up and I hope you have a wonderful week. It is lovely connecting with you!

Yay, yay, thank you for the copy of your e-book. Can’t wait to read it. So very proud of you!!

So glad to read that your back is much better. I have hurt my foot and have a 5K on Saturday. Hoping it will be better if I baby it this week. I am terribly impatient and went to the gym on my foot today but wearing my tennis shoe was painful so we didn’t stay long.

Cheers to both of us for cutting back on our alcohol. I don’t miss it (much) either. In fact this weekend, I haven’t had anything! But going to remedy that in just a moment with a cold beer. Sparkling water has become my new fav beverage. Your coconut water concoction sounds refreshing, too.

Have seen such great reviews of the Ken Follett book from several bloggers. Have never read any of his work so maybe it’s time. Thanks for the recommendation.

Your blog is lovely, Sue. So feminine and pretty. Heading over to read the About page now. XO

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 22, 2018 at 14:24

Thanks for the positive feedback on the e-book and the blog, Leslie. I think I should stop tinkering with it now! Take care of your foot and be patient. Have a wonderful week and thank you for your continuing support. xx

Hi, Sue – I like the new look and of your website — it is very crisp, clear and easy to read. I also LOVE your new e-book. It is so inspirational — very well done!
Congratulations on your Summer Bucket List. “Relax, restore and revive the mind, body and soul” is great advice for all!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 23, 2018 at 07:48

Thanks so much for the positive feedback Donna, it means a great deal to me. I strive to do my best and yes I’m only a small blogger from Australia but if I can inspire or encourage one other woman that makes me feel worthwhile. It also encourages me to keep going. My Summer Bucket List is free and easy which I think Summer should be. x

I enjoyed this post. I don’t have a current bucket list, and I’m out of time to start another series of blog posts. 🙂 Otherwise I’d have loved to join in. Blessings!
    A New Reading Challenge.

Hi Shirley, I’m glad you enjoyed reading what my Summer ‘goals’ or lack of have been. I’m wanting my Summer to be free and easy so haven’t put too much pressure on myself and I’m enjoying life more. We can get so involved with different blog series can’t we? Don’t forget to link up next week 31st January to our new link party. Have a great week! 🙂

  • Reply ShootingStarsMag January 23, 2018 at 02:34

Sounds like you’re having a great Summer. I’m glad you had a nice Christmas as well and got to see friends and family.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 23, 2018 at 07:54

Thanks Lauren. Yes Summer is a great time in Australia although some of the days have been quite hot and we are grateful for air conditioning. I love Christmas and always enjoy having my friends and family around me. Happy belated 2018 and have a great week! xx

  • Reply Danielle Park January 23, 2018 at 04:50

Wow…some days I dream of summer. But 40 C is a tad bit hot for me. It does look beautiful there. I like how general your goals are. It feels like no pressure to do anything just to tick it off. It looks like you have some great blog posts planned for this year. I look forward to coming back to check them out, and I am totally going to check out your e-book. Thanks for sharing.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric January 23, 2018 at 07:55

Hi Danielle! Yes 40+ is too hot and we do need rain but I can’t deny the sunshine and blue skies certainly keep your mood uplifted. Summer is free and easy for me so I didn’t want to put too much on my list to add pressure. Thank you for visiting and I do hope you enjoy the e-book and find some inspiration. Have a fabulous week! x
