Do you have any New Year’s Eve Traditions? I have and it just wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without them. After the hustle, bustle and craziness of preparing for Christmas celebrations we have a few days in between to come back to earth. To me, this means relaxing with a good book, cutting back on the excesses of food and drink and generally taking time out before looking towards the New Year.
As you may have read, I DON’T MAKE New Year Resolutions any more but rather work on my LIFE Plan which is more a holistic and planned approach. You can read more about this HERE.
I’ve never been one to party long into the night on New Year’s Eve but rather use this as a time for my husband and I to share the moment. Christmas to us is a time for family and friends but NYE is a time just for us.
To some, it might be boring but to us it is a very special time and we have set the tradition from when we first were together 23 years ago.
It is a time we both look forward to and I’d like to share my New Year’s Eve traditions with you.
Time to Celebrate
Each New Year is a time to celebrate and give thanks for life. Our tradition for New Year’s Eve celebrations is to be at the Gold Coast, near the ocean and enjoying a beautiful Seafood Platter with Champagne.
We shop early in the day, relax for the afternoon then enjoy a walk along the beach. We toast the end of the year with a glass of champagne and pre-dinner platter of cheese and olives, followed by the main course of fresh king prawns, oysters, smoked salmon and mussels.
After dinner, we take another walk to watch the early ‘fireworks’ or we watch them from our balcony. No waiting up until midnight for us!
This is our special time together and we treasure it.
Time to Reflect
On New Year’s Eve, we reflect on the year that we have had – the good times and the bad. What we achieved and what we didn’t get to tick off our list. We enjoy sharing our memories and reliving the good times. Long walks along the beach is a lovely way to reflect on the year that was.
Time to Plan and look forward
I spend New Year’s Eve planning the next year, usually in a brand new journal or diary – I just love new stationary. don’t you? My husband and I talk about what we would like to achieve together in the coming year, what new places we would like to explore. We are already looking forward to a holiday to Spain & Italy later next year.
So for some, my New Year’s Eve traditions might be a little boring but to me I wouldn’t want it any other way.
What are your New Year’s Eve Traditions?
May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family health, happiness, love and laughter in 2017.

Another great article, Sue – so often we feel “pressured” to celebrate long into the night at some big event. Your NYE sounds perfect!
ThanksToni. I’ve never really been into big NYE parties. I always felt overwhelmed so our tradition suits me perfectly. Happy New Year, my friend xx
We don’t have a tradition as strong as yours but I much prefer a quiet new year’s eve and am quite happy to not be up at midnight. I was never a fan of the NYE party, it has always seemed artificial.
Oh I agree Jan,’artificial’ is the perfect word. Have a very Happy New Year and look forward to connecting more in 2017 xx
We just got a house together, so this is the first year we’ll spend in it. And while we don’t have any set traditions, we do take the time to set goals and reflect on the past year. I think that’s really important for growth!
All the best for the new year,
Jasmine / http://www.jasminekeclipse.com
I agree Jasmine setting goals and reflecting on the year that was certainly puts life into perspective. Congratulations on your new house and have a wonderful New Year x
Happy New Year! Your celebration sounds lovely!
Thanks Becky! Lovely for you to stop by and have a wonderful New Year xx
Hi Sue, we don’t usually do anything special for NYE but that’s the way we like it – just relaxing at home 🙂 . Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year Janet to you and your family. Would love to catch up for a coffee in 2017. x
Oh I adore new stationary too! And much like you we enjoy a quiet new years eve too. To be honest it has never been a night that I have liked to party even when I was a teen or in my university days, I like to reflect and just be with appeal I love. Happy 2017 beautiful xx
Yes I loved going back to school time when we had to buy new stationery, pencil cases and pretty pens. I’m finding that many people prefer to enjoy a quiet New Year’s Eve with their loved ones. Like you, I’ve always been that way. I once went to a NYE at the Sydney Opera House and it was a nightmare – so many people, so much traffic. Give me a quiet one at home with my darling and I’m happy. xx Happy 2017 to you my dear friend. x
Hi Sue! Happy New Year! Our tradition is basically not to do anything! We stay in. I get too nervous going out on New Year’s. We usually have champagne, but that’s about it. Before New Year’s Day, I try to have my house clean and I cut a lock of my hair for good luck. This year I’m going to make a Wish List. It will be a list of the things I want to do or try in the New Year. Wishing you a wonderful 2017!
Hi Gigi! I like a clean house too! Love your idea of a lock of hair for good luck I haven’t heard of that before. I hope that everything on your Wish List comes true – great idea! Happy New Year my friend xx
Thanks you so much for visiting!!
Happy Healthy New Year to you and yours!!
We stay in and my hubby cooks lobster, shrimp, scallops and chicken fingers and my sons come for dinner.
I choose a Word to focus on for the new year and I just posted which word I chose for 2017. Stop by if you get a chance
Hugs,
Debbie
Oh I also have my word but haven’t posted it yet – it is Simplify! Love your idea of New Year’s Eve as well – surrounded by loved ones enjoying good food. Happy New Year to you and hope to connect again in 2017!
HI Sue.
I like your tradition, what do I do? well this year we only have one daughter left at home, we were going to go and watch the fireworks but Jo worked so we had to pick her up from work so we stayed home and watched on T.V then had a drink with Jodie to see the new year in as she wanted a drink dead on 12am so I had one with her. Tony was sick so he couldn’t have a drink with us. Have a great new year and looking forward to more of your blogs. Anne
Sounds like a busy NY for you Anne but I wish you every happiness for 2017 and thanks for stopping by x
That sounds like a perfect NYE tradition to me, Sue. I’m not big on the party scene and you had me with the seafood and champagne. Yum. Happy New Year!
I love it Molly and the seafood and champagne are the perfect ways to bring in the NY for me. Happy New Year to you!
