It is school holiday time again and I look forward to having adventures with my two grandsons, Ethan (8) and Elliot (4). I usually see them each Wednesday during school term but add an extra day in the school holidays.
Being with these two certainly keeps me active, feeling alive and certainly BE-ing present in the moment which aligns well with my Word of the Year -‘BE’. I’ll be posting about how I’ve been living my WOTY in our monthly WOTY link up party on the last Friday of the month.
I enjoy organising an adventure day but also a quiet day as life can be busy for little ones as well so some down time relaxing at home is important.
We’ve had some wonderful adventures together and these school holidays were no exception. I organised a visit to Trevena Glen Farm about 40 minutes north of Brisbane. I booked the general farm tour where we met and fed the farm animals and then the boys had a horse ride. It was a lovely experience for them to get up close and personal with country life and they just loved the horse ride.

There has also been time spent at the park playing rugby, soccer and having fun on the swings. I love that the boys have the attitude that Nan can do anything. It makes me feel alive and running the full length of a soccer field, trying to catch the boys certainly keeps me active and counts towards my daily exercise activity!
Our quiet days are usually spent in the kitchen (this time making a yummy fruit salad) and creating Lego masterpieces. Children are so very creative and I’m always impressed with the Lego creations. This one was a football stadium with so much detail.

The wonderful part of being with children is that they are always present in whatever they do. They might change their minds constantly but when they are in the moment they really are in the moment –
one of the life lessons they have taught their Nan:
Enjoy life and BE present in the moment!

I’m joining Denyse Whelan for her weekly Wednesday Words & Pics.

Hi Sue, your grandsons are so cute! Reminds me of when my boys were of similar ages and the fun we used to have. The farm visit looks like heaps of fun. I bet they enjoyed that a lot! Times at home cooking and making lego creations are fun too. It must be so much easier for you now too now that you’re living much closer and don’t have that drive from the GC. Enjoy these special times making lasting memories. Have a great week! xo
Hi Min thank you and yes I think Ethan and Elliot are pretty cute too! (I might be biased though). I’m only 4 minutes away now instead of over an hour’s drive. It certainly has made such a difference to my life that’s for sure. x
Hi Sue, A big Yes to “Enjoy life and Be present in the moment!”. It’s so great that you now live closer to your grandsons and you can be together more often. You planned wonderful and age-appropriate activities. Have a great week! #WWandPics
I love planning what to do with the boys during the school holidays Natalie. I try for one adventure day and one at home day which is a good balance.
I love being around little ones at the moment. Even at the funeral it was a big uplifting distraction to see them running around. Lucky you to get time with them! #WWandP
I am very lucky to now only be 4 minutes drive away from my grandsons, Lydia. I love being with them and they bring such joy. Children can be so uplifting as you say – their carefree attitude is something I wish we could all hold onto as we age. x
Hi Sue – grandchildren are such a blessing aren’t they? Our grandgirls are coming down for a few days next week and we’re already making plans about which playgrounds to visit and where to go. I won’t be chasing them over any soccer fields, but I’ll be enjoying every moment I can.
They are a blessing Leanne and I’m sure you are looking forward to having the girls in the holidays. They don’t need anything fancy really just your time. x
I beyond love your first photo, Sue, and as you know, ‘I get it!’ You are radiating beauty and look gorgeous!
You describe all of it soooo well…the adventure days…yet the quiet days, too. My granddaughters brought this point up to me in the (our) Summer holidays ….how they had something planned every day, yet they would appreciate a quiet, unplanned day.
You are a wise woman, Sue. The boys are exceptionally lucky to have you in their lives. All of the photos made me smile. And, yes…the lessons they teach us. xx ❤️
Thank you Erica! As you know, like you, spending time with our grandchildren is just the best time isn’t it? They grow up so fast so I’m making as many memories as I can now. x
How wonderful for you to have time with your Grandsons. They both look adorable. As you say, children help to keep us younger in our outlook in life and remind us to live in the moment. I love their Lego creation.
Hi Janine, the boys bring me such joy and I’m pretty impressed with their Lego skills. It is great to see them being creative. x
Hi Sue, It must have ben wonderful fun at that farm – your grandsons are growing up so much. Toni x
Hi Toni we had a great time at the farm and also at the park. The boys are growing up way to fast!
What lucky boys your grandsons are to have you as their Nan Sue! So much fun and adventures with you. I agree children are always present and in the moment. Lovely post!
Oh thanks Deb. I just love spending time with them and thinking of fun things we can do to create new memories. x
Hi, Sue – That is such a gorgeous opening photo of you and your boys. I love all of the activities that you and your grandsons do together. I agree that being in the moment with children is a perfect way to stay young!
Hi Donna I love that photo too. It was from my birthday party in August. The boys are growing up so fast I want to enjoy every moment I can with them. x
Aw, that is wonderful! I do love that children are often so absorbed in whatever they are doing…until something else catches their eye or their imagination and then they’re off and running again.
Hi Joanne I love that about children too. My grandsons bring such joy to me and I’m lucky to have them x
You brought back many lovely and loving memories of times with seven of my 8 grandchildren. I always feel a bit sad that the youngest, who was born after we moved away, didn’t get that time with us. Nevertheless I am grateful for those life experiences over the years. Making memories is crucial as is “just being with Nan”…
Thanks so much for linking up this week for Wednesday’s Words and Pics Link Up.
Looking forward to connecting with you more again soon.
Next week, I am back with my story about following my heart!
Warmest wishes,
Denyse.
Hi Denyse, soon you will be back with all of your family which will be lovely for you and Mr B. xx
Hi Sue the day at the farm looks wonderful. It’s great that you recognise that children need down time. Your down day with them looks fun. How lovely for you that you’re so close by now.
Oh absolutely Jen. They lead busy little lives and whilst I love taking them out they do need time at home to recharge the batteries. x
