Discover Yourself

My Blogging Journey of 2015

My Blogging Journey 2015

My Blogging Journey 2015As we draw to the close of another year I would like to share with you my journey so far in the world of blogging.  It has certainly be a steep learning curve but hey as those who know me would tell you, I love a challenge!

February 2015 I pushed the publish button on my first post.  Since then I have written over 200 posts about midlife and my experiences.  It has been a roller coaster ride learning about blogging and digging deep to discover who I am as I ride the wave through midlife.

Thank you to everyone who has read, shared, pinned and commented, I’ve enjoyed connecting with you all.

My greatest achievement in 2015

Undoubtedly, my greatest achievement was having the courage to start a blog on midlife.  Having retired early, after a short time I knew I wanted more in my life and the idea of writing a blog to connect with others was stirring at the back of my mind.

I had the usual fears that all bloggers have; ‘what if nobody reads it?’ ‘what if I can’t write anything?’  however, I pushed on and have now written over 200 posts since February.  I’m proud of myself for taking up the challenge and learning that if you don’t try you will never know what you are capable of.

I realise that I do have a voice and people actually want to listen to what I have to say!

If you don't try you will never know what you are capable of.Click To Tweet

My greatest struggles in 2015

Anything we want badly enough does not happen without struggle or obstacles.  I’ve spoken of my fear of starting my blog and that would have been my biggest obstacle.  Another struggle which I mentioned in my post 8 Things I Wish I Had Known When I Started Blogging was being patient!

You start your blog and you want to see results immediately.  You want your first post to go viral. I’m sorry to say that blogging is sometimes requires slogging!  You need to keep working away at promoting your post on social media but more importantly building relationships with your readers and other bloggers.

Another struggle for me was remembering that Quality over Quantity is so important.  Once you start building relationships it is so important not to fall into the trap of rushing your writing and posting several posts per week which aren’t up to your standard of work.  You and your readers deserve your best.  Trying to remember this has been a struggle as I feared that I would lose my following if I didn’t post something.

What I learned in 2015

Blogging has been a steep learning curve but my biggest learning was to reach out to other bloggers and build relationships.

I discovered the wonderful Daniela Uslan and her Have Your Cupcake courses.  I learned so much from Daniela and even revamped my whole website through her course.

I met some wonderful and supportive bloggers through Facebook groups that I joined such as Friday Reflections, Blogging On Your Own Terms, Have Your Cupcake, WAYWOW Community, IBA and Debbie In Shape Friends.  The members of these groups are always there for you and are willing to share their knowledge to help each other succeed.

I learned about link ups and blog parties and how I need to be selective

What I want to achieve in 2016

I have thought about what I would like to achieve in 2016 and my mind races.  There are so many ideas I would like to go with and I know that some I will definitely need patience to achieve.

My main achievement will be to find a balance with blogging and real life.  It is so easy to get engrossed in your blog and promoting your posts that life can pass you by.

My goal for 2016 will be BALANCE.  If I can achieve this I will still be on track to achieve my blogging goals but with less stress and anxiety.

These are the posts that I felt most proud of and not necessarily with the most views. I hope you enjoy revisiting some of these posts and I look forward to bringing more fun, laughter and motivation to you in 2016.
