What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental practice and a state of awareness characterized by paying deliberate attention to the present moment without judgment. It involves focusing on one’s thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, or the surrounding environment, with an attitude of openness, curiosity, and acceptance.

Originating from Buddhist meditation techniques, mindfulness has been adapted and integrated into various secular contexts, including psychology, medicine, education, and workplace settings. It is often practiced through meditation, but it can also be cultivated through everyday activities such as walking, eating, or even washing dishes, by simply bringing full attention to the task at hand.

The practice of mindfulness has been associated with numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits, including stress reduction, improved focus and concentration, enhanced emotional regulation, increased resilience, and greater overall well-being. Mindfulness techniques are frequently used in therapeutic interventions such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to help individuals manage various psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.

During March take time to stop, feel, breathe, experience all of your emotions and be in the moment as you go about your daily life.

    Hi Sue – mindfully choosing to see the good in the people and the world around us, taking time to breathe, and just “being” is so important for happiness – great reminders in the March calendar. x

      Hi Leanne, it has been difficult to be mindful lately. I’ve been very busy and not sleeping well so I find my mind wandering. The calendar is a good reminder to take a step back and focus on the NOW. x

      I love them too, Donna. I haven’t been very mindful lately as I’ve been busy and not sleeping well. Hopefully the prompts will get me back on track. x
