Do you have a bucket list?
Are there things you want to do this year that perhaps you haven’t tried before?
Perhaps you need to create memories this year.
At the end of last year I wrote a post ’17 things on my ‘to do’ list for 2017′ and I have actually started ticking some things off already.
Today on Meaningful Mondays, I’d like us to think about how as women of midlife we can create more memories this year. We can get so caught up with life and budgets that we forget to enjoy ourselves. When was the last time you did something that today brings happy memories when you think of it?
I recently came across a website, Eventbrite. It is a company that provides the facility for you to set up your own events or fundraising through event management software. It also lists events that you can participate in. Their categories include Music, Food & Drink, Classes, Parties, Sports and Wellness. Last year their focus was on GOMO: Going Out More Often and in 2017 they are encouraging us to create Experiences, Not Things!
That made me think – Experiences, Not Things – how often do we buy something on impulse and then regret the purchase?
Life should be about enjoying experiences with family and friends and creating beautiful memories.Click To TweetSome memories will be free such as picnics in the park or enjoying more bushwalks or walks along the beach. Others will be experiences in which we will invest our time and money.
So back to the bucket list for 2017. I’ve come up with my top 10 things to create more memories this year.
Some items on the list don’t cost anything, others I will choose to spend my money. It is all about enriching our lives.
- Attend a theatre production – I love musicals but haven’t made the effort to see one for quite some time.
- Attend a Wellness Retreat to bring harmony to my body, mind and soul
- Run in the Gold Coast half marathon fun run with my Saturday Sisters
- Make memories with my grandson such as trips to the museum and art gallery where they have great children’s activities or just playing in the park together.
- Regular Date nights to discover new restaurants and enjoy quality couple time.
- Travel to visit Family interstate
- Explore the City in which I live
- Travel – Take a cruise to the Pacific Islands and a trip to Italy & Spain
- Take a bush walk in the Gold Coast Hinterland
- Continue my tradition of making each grandchild a themed birthday cake
What will be on your bucket list to create more memories this year?
Don’t forget your camera to capture your memories and also add your memory to your Jar of Positivity.

Lovely pointers…..They will be helpful
Thanks for stopping by Phaytea and have a lovely day.
These are good ideas Sue! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks Debbie! Enjoy your week and create some memories 🙂
I love the idea of focusing on experiences rather than “stuff” Sue. We’re off to see “Matilda” with our daughter and son-in-law later this month. It’s not something we’d do without a bit of a push, so it’s nice to step out and dress up and have the bonus of sharing time with our daughter too.
Yes sometimes we need that push don’t we. I’m taking a friend to My Fair Lady for her birthday and I can’t wait. Enjoy Matilda!
As an almost empty nester, I really appreciate what you say here. Lately, instead of buying for stuff for birthdays and other holidays, we have invested in making memories. We do things together, go to the theater, the beach, the museum, anything that makes memories to hold onto when we can’t hold each other.
You have the perfect idea Leah. Doing things together is so much for fun and it nurtures our relationships rather than just buying a gift – which may or may not be used. Have a beautiful day and I love the name of your website. x
I love your list! And I recently found Eventbrite as well, and it’s great because I get emails the week before reminding about great things that I might be interested in. It helps me to plan my weekends so I’m not just sitting around moping that I want to do stuff but don’t know what.
The date nights are a great idea and something I might institute as well. Thank you!
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the post Kat and yes Eventbrite is a great idea. I came across it last year and it certainly gives you enough choice or at least ideas of what to do. Date nights should be a priority 🙂 Have a great day!
Hey Sue,
I love your ideas! I have a bucket list but the older I get, the less I want to call it a “bucket list”. 😉 I’m still working on a new name for it. So, what will I do? Well for starters, I need to remember, life is precious and we shouldn’t take it for granted. I plan on doing more things with my family this year. 🙂
B
Thanks Bren! You are so right about life being short. We shouldn’t just put things on a bucket list for the future should we – we need to enjoy the here and now!
I made themed cakes for my children; they are now 24 & 27, yet every birthday I make them listen to their birth story as I tell it. More for me than them, maybe, but I revel in those memories. I need to travel more, certainly.
How lovely to tell your children about their birth story – we tend to brush over that day don’t we. I make themed cakes for the grandchildren and really love the look of expectation as to what ‘Nan’ has created this time. Have a beautiful day and thanks for stopping by.
Great ideas! I’m always looking for ways to make more memories and focus more on experiences.
We can get caught up in life can’t we Joanne. As a Mother of 3 I’m sure you have many memories and many more to create. Thank you for stopping by and have a beautiful day xx
That’s a great list Sue. I would love to do some GC Hinterland walking this year too. But I am mostly looking forward to travelling to Italy next month. I know this will create some wonderful memories as we are travelling with good friends. However, like you I also like to spend time with my beautiful family. 🙂 #TeamLovinLife
It is so exciting for you Kathy! Italy is one of my favourite countries to visit and we will be back there in October. You will create some lovely memories and I look forward to your posts about your travels. Have a beautiful weekend – not long until you go! xx
All good suggestions. Thank you for sharing this post at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty. I shared it on social media.
Thank you for sharing and stopping by to comment. Have a beautiful day Dee!
Totally agree with you Sue. We can all do with a little more fun in our lives. In fact I have just recently started a bucket list and posted my first 15 on the blog. I need to add to it! #TeamLovinLife
I’ll have to check out your blog to see what is on your list Min! I love reading about what other people would like to achieve. Have a great day!
So agree Sue. Life is about memories not things and fun in our lives is imperative. We’ve just given a whole load of things to Save The Children, and in hopefully doing a bit of a good deed giving away things to people who really could use them and love them, I also feel less encumbered and more free to go out and enjoy life now we have less. #teamlovinlife
It is quite cathartic Jo being able to give to others who desperately need what we sometimes take for granted. I agree live can be more enjoyable with less. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. x
My bucket list is ever evolving. This year’s big bucket list item is going on an adventure holiday with my parents to Thailand. They are taking all of us with them for time rafting on rapids, zip ling through jungles, bathing with elephants and other such things.
#teamlovinlife
Leanne, same! My bucket list is very fluid. It’s also pretty empty at the moment. Have to work on that.
SSG xxx
It is good to be flexible SSG with bucket lists or life in general really. Have a great weekend and work on some dreams x
Oh that sounds like an amazing holiday Leanne I hope you write a post about it. Thailand is great although I didn’t get to see the elephants unfortunately. Have a great weekend!
Ticking things off the bucket list sounds fun. Number 8 is on my list too. I also want to travel to Italy and Spain. All the best ..Visiting through #bloggers pit 🙂
Hi Deepa thanks for stopping by! Italy is my favourite place and I’ve been fortunate to visit several times because my husband was born there. We are looking forward to Spain – I love the history of European places. Have a wonderful weekend x
I really like the idea of working from a list like this to ensure you LIVE each day and not just get through them!
Sometimes we need a little extra help don’t we Lisa. Glad you enjoyed the post, have a beautiful weekend and thanks for stopping by.
What great things you have on your bucketlist Sue. I would especially enjoy the theatre and the wellness retreat. in fact they’re going on my list too! #lovinlifelinky
I’ve booked to see ‘My Fair Lady’ Carol (since I wrote the post) which I’m looking forward to and I have a yoga retreat this Saturday so ticking some off the list. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by xx
