You would think I had had enough of the alphabet with the AtoZ Challenge throughout April. However, this week’s prompt from Denyse Whelan Blogs made me actually take time to consider words that would describe me. We will be completing the alphabet in a few weeks so you can then say you know me from AtoZ!
It was not so easy to describe myself but here goes…..
Me from ‘A’ to ‘L’
Active
I would describe myself as living a fit and active lifestyle. I love running, yoga and strength training but I also love to go for a walk where I can appreciate my surroundings. Keeping active and healthy is very important to me, having lost my mother at 63, my father at 66 and my brother at 65 all to the big ‘C’.
Blogger
I’m a blogger and started my blog Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond, three years ago. I love the connections and friendships I have made with both readers and other bloggers. It really is a supportive community and I’m thrilled to have been nominated for the Annual Bloggers Bash Awards.
Caring
I have a caring nature which I think I inherited from my Mum. Of course, sometimes I can go overboard and feel the need to always make things right for those I love. It is hard to step back and watch our loved ones make mistakes but we have to let them so they learn life’s lessons.
Determined

Coming across the finish line after 42.2kms
I’m never one to shy away and pride myself on my determination to achieve my dreams and goals. Regular readers would know that I’ve just achieved my goal of completing 26 posts for the AtoZ Challenge in April. However, my greatest fitness achievement which required determination and dedication was running a full marathon at age 55. I still feel proud of that!
Entertaining
No not from the stage, but I do like to entertain our friends and family. I love cooking and especially our Christmas family get-togethers, the grandchildren’s birthday and of course Christmas in July which I started last year with some friends.
Friendly
I like to think I’m a friendly person and also a good friend. It costs nothing to give a smile or say hello but it could make someone’s day.
Generous
I’m a pretty generous person. I love to give to others whether it be time, gifts or making huge meals when I cook!
Healthy
I’m 60 and healthy which I am grateful for. I work at it by being active and making healthier food choices most of the time. Of course, I have my treats but usually I eat nourishing food to give me the energy I need for my running. My husband and I recently decided to give alcohol a rest for a while and we have now notched up 10 weeks!
Impulsive
Just so you know that I’m not perfect I can reveal that I am quite impulsive. I rush head long into things. I would like to be more level headed and measured in my thinking. That is why my husband and I are well suited – he is the level headed one and I’m the one that says ‘oh let’s just do it!’ I could write a book about my impulsiveness!
Japan
I know, not a trait but ‘J’ is a hard one. So ‘J’ is for Japan and the cruise we will be taking around Japan in October.
Karoke
I love karoke although I don’t do it very often – have your heard me sing? I’m available for engagements and I do a ‘mean’ version of the ABBA hit Mama Mia and Dancing Queen. When we went to Stockholm I visited the ABBA museum and sang with ABBA. I did have the video to prove it but I won’t hurt your eardrums. Anyone can get up on the stage and sing with the ABBA group which are holograms. I had all the moves too – just ask my poor husband to had to stand there and watch me!
Loving
I have a loving nature and I believe that really shines through to my husband and family. The love I feel for my grandson, Ethan, is nothing like I’ve felt before. Being a Nan is such a special relationship and next month I will have another grandbaby, a brother or sister for Ethan (Rachel and Ian haven’t wanted to know the sex so it will be a lovely surprise). I love making cakes for all my grandchildren on Mike’s side as well as on mine.
What words would you choose to desribe yourself from A to L? Why not try the exercise? You don’t have to be a blogger to do it!
Stay tuned for the next instalment where I describe myself from M to Z!
Let’s Keep Sizzling!

I love this! I feel like I know you as a person, not only someone who blogs (and does it very well!). You have a generous and loving heart for sure. And the lead photo is beautiful!
Thanks so much Candi. I’m getting to know you through your Coffee with Candi and your videos. It is great to really look behind the blogger and meet the person isn’t it? Have a great week and enjoy! xx
This is a great way to learn more about someone Sue. I enjoyed your answers. might just give it a try!
Hi Debbie, it was the weekly prompt from Denyse Whelan and after AtoZ I thought I would give it a try! Happy and safe travels my friend xx
Thank you! At the airport now waiting to board ?
What a great post! Yes, related to the A to Z Challenge (halfway), yet totally different. I enjoyed reading this and getting to know a little more about my new far-away, on-line friend.
Have a wonderful day!
Hi Trisha Faye, it was a fun post to write and I know have to think about LtoZ which comes next month. It is great to have connected with you and doing a post like this certainly gives people a little more insight into who I am and also how I see myself. Have a beautiful week xx
That’s great Sue – you certainly are all those things x
Thanks Toni, sometimes it is hard to describe yourself without sounding too vain! Have a great week xx
What a wonderful post to read. I can say that even though I haven’t yet met you in person, you are most certainly all those things. A really lovely person and super active and fit! 🙂 xo
Oh you are so kind, Min. It was a fun way to explore what I think of myself and at first, I felt guilty that I was writing too many positives about myself. Then I thought that it is good I feel that way about myself. I’m so pleased you enjoyed reading about me and I’m already thinking about L to Z! Have a great week! xx
A great AtoL post, Sue! From following your blog, I can say that you certainly have all those qualities. Looking forward to joining you at Wellness Wednesday and MLSTL link ups!
Thanks Natalie and have a great week! It was fun trying to be honest about how who I am xx
This was a really fun post Sue – I’m not sure I learned anything new about you – I was already pretty up on how fabulous you are – and definitely the F for Friendly! You are such an example of someone who has all the areas of their life in balance and always looking for ways to grow – you inspire me every week!
You inspire me to be a better blogger my BBB xxx that’s Best Blogging Buddy btw 🙂
What a wonderful way to get to know you further, Sue. You also could have used the word “energetic” for “E”. I greatly admire your energy and enthusiasm…and how you have continued on from the A to Z Challenge full steam ahead! Well done!
Hi Donna it really was a lesson in self-awareness xx
Congratulations on the award, and I love that you had karaoke on your list – that will no doubt come in handy on your cruise to Japan!
Thanks Lydia and yes I might be the Queen of Karoke on the cruise LOL:)
Such a great list Sue! I love that you do Karoke! I’ve never done it and would be terrified!
Hi Gigi! Lovely of you to leave a comment and yes Karoke is fun – as long as you are surrounded by friends or family 🙂 Have a great week! xx
I loved reading this Sue. We definitely do have a few things in common. Impulsive in particula. That’s me! Get an idea and just jump in without giving it too much thought. Loved reading about your Abba experience. Looking forward to the next instalment
Thanks Jen, it is hard not to jump in with enthusiasm and then think about it later. I’m getting better but still lots of room for experience. The ABBA museum was great and even my husband was impressed – he is a Pink Floyd Fan so the opposite to ABBA! 🙂
Ooooh…Japan in October. I’ll be packing my vicarious bags to virtually follow you on that one!
Hi Jo you are welcome to join us! I have been on your journey to France, virtually and totally enjoying all your photos xx
What a fun way for your readers to get to know more about you! I love the idea of Christmas in July. Congrats on finishing a marathon. That does require great great determination. Weekends In Maine
Yes Christmas in July was fun. This was a good exercise in self-awareness, Karen. Have a great week!
Sue,
This A-L was so very you!!!!! Positive, reflective and inspiring.
Japan in October sounds exciting,
SSG xxx
Thanks SSG now to think of M-Z! Have a lovely day xx
What a fun A to Z idea! Looking forward to next half…. which has much more challenging letters. 🙂
Yes Pat I had enough trouble with AtoL 🙂
I’m booking you for Karaoke! You can be the entertainment at my wedding, I’d love a bit of ABBA!
I will be there with bells on! I have all the ABBA moves so you won’t be disappointed. Just make sure your guests have ear plugs and it will be a great success LOL:)
You should definitely have had Inspiration in your list. Lovely to read more about you; you seem so organised I would never have picked impulsive.
Oh you are lovely Jan! Yes I am pretty impulsive just ask Mike!
Duh! Inspirational
I am just smiling all over the place at the idea of singing with ABBA–and doing ALL the moves!
Good for you, Sue!
It was so much fun Michele and did you hear they are producing together again with a new album by the end of the year!
That was a fun read Sue. Having gotten to know you through blogging and the groups that we are in I can say that I’m not surprised by any of them. Except maybe, the impulsive one. Oh, and that Karaoke thing. But considering all you’ve done, I shouldn’t be surprised by it.
You are the second person to be surprised that I am impulsive, Jennifer. I’m not in all things but if I get enthusiastic about an idea I just go for it and think about it later LOL:)
I think we don’t put impulsive next to your name because accomplished plenty of things that require planning and practice and time, like running a race at 55. It’s a contradiction but now I like that about you.
You sound a lot like my mum and she’s awesome. I also like strength training but hate running. Go, you! Congrats on the award, too.
Thanks Vanessa! Not everyone loves running but there are so many activities these days aren’t there? It is easy to find something you enjoy and can have fun with. Your Mum sounds awesome! 🙂
Hello! Already commented when I read earlier. But now I’ll tweet and share as MLSTL
Thanks Trisha Faye! xx
This is a fabulous way to get to know someone and although I feel I know you a little already, this has given me a deeper insight. Love it. Might have to try it too. Shared 🙂
It was a great lesson in self-awareness Jo and now I have to have my thinking cap on for next month ‘M-Z’! You should do it!
It was so wonderful getting to know you in April’s A to Z. It is inspiring to learn more about you in A to L. How exciting that you get to take a cruise to Japan. I hope it’s incredible!
And you Heather we need to stay connected now that we know each other. Take care xx
That was such a beautiful and honest read. I already could guess quite a few like generous and caring because I have experienced these personally. As for the impulsive, hey, gotta have some fun and be different, right?
#lifethisweek 19/52. Next week’s optional prompt is #shareyoursnaps4. Denyse
Hi Denyse, thanks for the prompt. I wasn’t going to write it and then it was actually a good lesson in self-awareness. Now to work on MtoZ! x
Yay – another #MLSTL party and we’re off and rocking! I’ve shared your post everywhere Sue and looking forward to seeing what the others bring with them this week x
Yes we are now at out limit which is great. Getting very positive feedback as well – we are a hit! xx
This was a fun post, a fun way to get to know more about people!
Thanks Cherie yes a great lesson in self-awareness. Now to think about M – Z! x
Hi Sue,
I’ve been feeling neglectful and a slacker as your posts come pouring into my inbox. Those are a couple of words to describe me for the last half of the alphabet, but I won’t use them because, unlike your A-L, both are hopefully just temporary states, not lifelong traits!
I can certainly see the evidence for most of the traits you’ve listed. The one that catches my eye at the moment is ‘determined.’ I knew it applied to you for running, but until recently had no idea that you post 2-3 times a week. That’s impressive! Does it ever get completely overwhelming? I’m feeling overwhelmed now that I have many more bloggers to follow every week, plus tons of outdoor work to do on my 33 acre property now that we’ve jumped from winter to summer. I’m using a chainsaw to cut trees and make trails through the woods, something I never thought I’d have the nerve to do (chainsaws scare me).
Anyway, I value all of my blogging friendships and want to be as present as I can be for all of these great conversations. For me, that will probably look like reading all of your posts but only writing a comment on one each week. On rainy days, I can do more 🙂
Hi Karen, lovely of you to stop by and please don’t feel the pressure of having to read all of my posts! I completely understand and struggle myself with trying to comment on all of the blogs I now follow. It doesn’t mean I don’t care, it just means that life needs to take priority sometimes. I enjoy blogging and it has given my life some purpose since I retired. Sure, sometimes I think it has taken over – just ask my husband 🙂 I do value my new friendship with you and will always love to hear from you when you can and also I’ll be keeping in touch with you and your posts. Have a beautiful day and good for you with the chainsaw – I’d be too scared to pick one up – visions of the Chainsaw Massacre! LOL 🙂
Hi Sue! Here via the link-up ? what a great post, it really helps to get to know you – beyond your ‘blogging voice’
Hi Sonia thanks for visiting and glad you enjoyed getting to know me a little more. Have a great day!
I think it is so good that you stay as active as you do. I use to run years ago but my knees got bad and I lost my enthusiasm for it. This is an interesting post and I will need to give it some thought I am not sure I can come up with something for each letter but I might have to give it a try. I also like to karaoke, I like to do Patsy Cline. lol
Hi Victoria, I struggled with some of the letters but it was a fun exercise and helped me get to know myself better! I’m not sure what my favourite karoke is but probably and ABBA song. We could put on a show together 🙂
Sue, none of those words surprised me, even though our e-friendship is so new. I think we have quite a bit in common… except for that K word! I can make cats run when I sing, so I reserve that for long drives in the van… by myself!
Hi Agnes, did I not mention that I’m the only person who enjoys my singing LOL:) Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! xx
what a fun person you seem to be. I’m glad I bumped into you. I’m a newly minted 60 with a youthful attitude to life too.
Hello and welcome! Thanks for stopping by to leave me a comment and I’m so pleased you bumped into me. Have a beautiful day!
Thanks!
This was a lovely A to L and I got to know you so much better through it. I love that you are active, I know that you are generous (with your comments and through sharing our blog posts). It sounds like you are good at entertaining and that photo of that Christmas cake is brilliant. I think I’ll get back to baking cakes for my friends and family. It really is such a wonderful activity.
Thanks Kalpana it is such a fun way to get to know yourself. I know have to think about ‘M-Z’. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day x
Looking forward to L through Z, Sue! What a great idea! You’re such an inspiration!
Not sure about the alcohol (wine) though! I know I ‘should’ do without my glass of wine (or two) a day. It’s such a pleasant pleasure that I think I’ll wait until my doctor says to in very clear terms. Thanks for drawing me into #MLSTL! It was your post I saw on Twitter.
http://www.meinthemiddlewrites.com
Hi Mary Lou and welcome! Yes I’m starting to think about L through Z which might be a little tougher! Thank you for your kind words and I do enjoy a glass of wine but my husband needed to take a break from alcohol for a while so I’m doing it to support him. Of course, it is helping me as well but there really isn’t anything wrong with a wine or two at the end of the day. Glad you found #MLSTL and hope to see you next week x
WOW! Learning even more about you Sue! I suppose M to Z is coming next, huh? Ok, you do Facebook Live, so we want to see you do karaoke on there 🙂 Shared your post x 4 ♥
Yes MtoZ next in June so watch this space, Dee! Karoke on FB live??? I may have to speak to my manager about that LOL:) 🙂
Hi Sue, I got your invite just now. I’ve been stopping by the #15 group all week and commenting and sharing. Is this something different? I looked for a special link to the party and saw only the same bloggers I’ve been visiting. Sorry if I’ve got it confused.

Hi Mary Lou, I think you solved the problem and glad you could link up with us at #16. See you next week at #17. xx
