Health & Wellness Over 50s Lifestyle

Making your health a priority

August 10, 2023

Happy Thursday @everyone!

Are you looking after your health and required screenings?

Do you need to make an appointment?

Recently I have been going through some health issues and despite living an active and healthy lifestyle, I’m needing to make some changes because of family history and genetics. It is frustrating considering I do all I can to stay healthy.

It can make one feel vulnerable and realise that I’m not invincible. However, on the positive side, I know what I’m dealing with and can do something about it with medication.

Today I can tick off

✅Blood test for cholesterol levels

✅Cervical screening

✅Mammogram booked for 22nd August

Here’s a little reminder I made…..

Time to take stock of your health and well-being starting today. Share with me what you are doing to remain healthy and active as you age?

Next week, I will have all of those boxes checked off, too! I hope we both get good news!

Hi Marsha, my news wasn’t great but we can do something about it. I hope your news was good. xx

Hi, Sue – Thank you for sharing this so openly with us. You continue to be an incredible inspiration role-model. What you have shared above is a great reminder to take charge of our health regardless of how healthy our lifestyle is. Sending warm hugs your way!

Hi Sue – a good reminder to us all. It’s very easy to let these appointments drift by. I’ve recently completed 2 of the 3. I really need to get my blood cholesterol check done though. I hope all your results come back favourably.

Good for you Janine. I’m almost up to date now but of course the latest health results mean medication because I can do no more in the lifestyle area. x

Well done, Sue – your health definitely comes first xxxxx

Hi Sue, the older I get, the more I realize that my most valuable gift is good health. I try to remember that I can’t help anyone if I don’t take care of me. Take good care of you, Sue.

Exactly, Bernadette. I’ve been so lucky to get to 66 without too many issues but now that has changed somewhat. I’m glad I had it all checked out and can do something about it. Unfortunately, genetics play a huge part so knowing your family history is vital. x

Hi Sue, I agree with everything Donna said! You are wise and generous in sharing your medical issues with us. Also keeping us on track with our own testings. Take care and thanks again xx

Thank you Deb. We really do need to ensure we are on top of our health game especially as we age. I’m so pleased I had the tests otherwise I would have continued on in ignorance. x

I also got hit by the cholesterol count last year and had to go on medication. Sometimes it bums me out as it makes me feel “unhealthy” that I couldn’t control it with the diet and Metamucil but then I get a grip and realize as long as it stays where it is I can take a pill every night. I feel blessed, that despite the extra 30 pounds, I am very healthy. Injury prone but healthy. Hope things even out for you. Bernie
Ps I have been enjoying many of your podcasts lately as I paint my way thru 31 windows and frames!

Hi Bernie! I accept I need medication but I feel frustrated because I do lead a healthy lifestyle. Genetics you can’t beat though. My stress test showed really good results so I will continue to live as I do but just with medication. I’m taking a little break from the podcasts at the moment with everything that is going on. I’m glad I could keep you company whilst you were painting. xx

I believe mine is genetics as well. Glad the stress test had good results. But balancing everything is always a challenge and stepping back from one thing might open another door. Take care. Bernie

Hi Bernie, unfortunately we can’t beat genetics can we? I hope you are okay and yes, I was very happy that I had good results. Take care xx
