Dear Readers
Welcome to my weekly Living Well This Week letter where I share not only what I’ve been up to, but also ideas and information I’ve discovered during the week to help us all Live Well and Enjoy Life.
Living Well This Week – July 24
Giving back
I mentioned previously that I have volunteered to be a Shero for Share the Dignity. I’ve signed up for the August Dignity Drives https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/dignity-drives with Woolworths and other organizations who will be accepting donations of period products during the month. Once we collect the items and bag them in their different categories, we distribute to various charities. I’m looking forward to my first volunteer campaign. If you live in Australia, please support the drive and donate at your nearest Woolworths supermarket. Look for the Pink Collection Boxes during August.
Living Well through Mindfulness
A friend sent me this article which details why Mindfulness is the key to living well. Three Keys to Mindfulness: Awareness, Attitude, and Values | Psychology Today. Too often we are looking back with regret or looking forward in anticipation rather than being mindful of this moment in time. I’m all for planning and like to have something to look forward to, but if we are always living in the future we are robbed of living today and enjoying each moment we are given.
Health and Wellbeing
- Are you losing mobility in your knees, ankles and hips? It is common especially as we age and don’t focus on keeping our joints flexible. I did this 10 minute Hip, Knee and Ankle Mobility workout during the week. It is challenging but if we do it daily will certainly keep us mobile as we age. Give it a try and let me know how you felt .
https://www.gethealthyutv.com/video/10-minute-ankle-hip-knee-mobility-workout-041389 - Week 3 down and into Week 4 of our Daily Exercise Challenge. I’m loving how everyone is posting what they have done, inspiring and motivating the other members. Here is the link to the FB Group and I’d love you to join us. We can motivate and support each other to stay active and fit over 50. WLWA50 – DAILY EXERCISE CHALLENGE | Facebook.
- Can’t get out for a walk or run? This 10,000 step workout from Get Fit with Rick will get your steps in and your heart pumping. I tried this workout during the week and it will be on my regular playlist now.
What’s Been On My Bookshelf? – What I’ve been reading
On the third Friday of each month, I join three friends in the blogging world to host the What’s On Your Bookshelf? linkup. We share the books we have been reading and our reviews. Below are the books I read during July and you can find my reviews in the post What’s On Your Bookshelf? – July 2024.
What have you been reading over the last month? I’d love to hear your recommendations.

I love that red on you … Off to do Rick’s 40min Combat now!
I’m so pleased you told me about Rick, Jo. I love his workouts and feel so energised in body and mind after his session. x
Hi, Sue – I thoroughly agree on both the power and importance of mindfullness and of social networks. That’s what I love most about your Excercise Challenge. It offers both in a highly supportive, non-intimidating way.
Hi Donna, the exercise challenge is keeping me on track too so I appreciate everyone’s participating and support. x
Hi Sue, I really enjoy your weekly updates and am finding the 30 minute challenge a great way to stay accountable. I’ve done the 10 min workout you featured and found it good as I do have tight hips and sore knees. I also like the Get Fit with Rick workouts, it’s so good having you encouraging us all stay active. I’ve made notes of some of the books you listed in your #WOYBS? post and have downloaded a few already! Like Jo says, that red really suits you xx
Hi Deb, you have been doing so well with your fitness progam and part of that is finding your tribe in Tumba. The sessions sound great and I only wished I lived closer. x
It has taken me a bit…OK, a long time…to get out of the mindset of looking forward as we planned for years for retirement. Now, I’m realize how important every moment is so I’m trying hard to be mindful of the present. I have been walking and lifting weights and hope to see the results soon! I’m reading a book about San Francisco right before the 1906 earthquake. I am really enjoying it so far. And, I concur with everyone else…red is your color!

Oh that book sounds interesting, Marsha. We have visited San Francisco and loved it. Trying to live mindfully doesn’t come easy. It is certainly a WIP x
You strike a very confident pose here Sue in red…and I am a lover of red too. I applaud your continuing efforts to reach out to help others where you can. I am getting out each day and walking for my enjoyment …no longer about the pressure of steps …and it frees my mind to enjoy it more. I have re-connected with Danielle after seeing her being a guest on your podcast. We first met a good 12 years ago just when life was raising many life challenges for her. Good going I say to those who make the most of life as they can when they can. Thanks for sharing what you are up to. Denyse x
Thanks, Denyse. I’m glad you have re-connected with Danielle, she was so lovely to chat to and has certainly opened her soul to her readers. Walking for enjoyment is a win/win. You stay active physically but it does wonders for our mental health as well. x
I always look forward to reading your weekly updates, Sue! I always find tidbits of great advice and lots of wonderful inspiration here! Wishing you a great week ahead!
That is so lovely of you to say, Laura and it is always validating to receive positive comments. Have a lovely week. x
I was lucky enough to retire with much to do! And life has gone on being busy and fulfilling. I have learned to be more active in my old age too – physically I mean which is so important in our old age :=)
cheers
sherry
That’s the way to retire, Sherry. Staying connected and active is the key to a positive aging experience. Go you and thanks for your comment. xx
Being mindful of this moment in time is something I need to master! And how good is Rick? He got me through and kept me fit during quarantine and the never ending lockdowns – getting your steps in has never been more fun!
Hi Sammie, Mindfulness is always a WIP for me! I love Rick as do many others. He certainly makes it a fun workout. x
The podcast was absolutely delicious!! I am so glad you enjoyed the article I sent along. It struck a chord with me as did the interview above. Life is busy and that’s good but it is about that balance and how sometimes we just need to rebalance for a moment or a time period. Get fit with Rick hey…I am disappointed about my biking kms and the walks have been shorter for a number of reasons (one of them being 34 + humidity and the dog doesn’t even want to go far) and so I feel like I am slipping except for all the outside work. Anyway maybe I should join your Facebook group although seems I only go on there every 2 to 3 weeks I guess it wouldn’t help! I have been swimming lanes and doing aquafit so all is not lost. Thanks for being so inclusive and so encouraging.
Thank you so much for your feedback on the podcast episode, Bernie. You don’t know how much that means to me as I’m pondering the future of the podcast. Come and join the FB group for support – you can be a silent member if you prefer. xx
Hi Sue, first up I’ve got to say that I love that red jacket on you! It’s fabulous that you’re volunteering with Share the Dignity. It’s such a wonderful charity! You’re so good at keeping active each day too. Now my visitor has left I’m back doing my yoga and pilates each morning but that’s about as much as I can do in my current situation. I really need to walk and do more weight baring exercise but I need to be kind to myself at the moment and at least I’m doing something. I love that you’ve interview Danielle! I know her (virtually) from way back when I first started blogging. Life was very different for her then and her online presence was very different too. I’ve been watching and following her journey since then and I look forward to listening to your podcast interview with her! I’m super impressed by all the books you’ve read. I started reading a book when at Ballandean but haven’t touched it since I got back home! Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy ! xo
Thanks, Min I do like wearing Red although have only recently discovered that! I’m looking forward to volunteering. I actually interviewed the CEO Rochelle a couple of years ago and she has done some wonderful work. Danielle was such a lovely guest and it comes through in her book as well. You need to take time Min as you have so much going on. Just doing your morning yoga and pilates even for 10 minutes is better than nothing when time is short. Take care of yourself xx
Another great week, Sue
We are off to Cairns next week so looking forward to the break. x
I enjoy Get Fit with Rick videos; he listens to some great music too. That and I like Leslie Sandsone walking videos — she’s a lot of fun too.
I will check out Leslie’s videos, Joanne. I’m always looking for new ways to work out with different coaches. x
Second red and black outfit I see today: now to go put together something in my closet! I need to do some home workouts again. Will have to look into these.

It is fun getting inspiration from others, isn’t it Mireille? I know I am inspired to revamp my wardrobe when I read your posts. Enjoy your weekend. x
Oooh Rabbit Proof Fence – is it good? And love Share the Dignity. I’m sure I commented on this but will say again, how great you look in red. It really suits you! #WWWHimsy
Rabbit Proof Fence was good but like the whole Stolen Generation topic it was confronting. Thank you for the comment about Red – I’ve embraced it over the last couple of years. x
