Let’s Get Active in April and Feel Alive!

March 26, 2019
Get Active Feel Aliver Over 50

#MakingMarchMeaningful was a wonderful way for us to consider our purpose, become more mindful and also to explore ways to bring more meaning to our lives.  We even discovered that we could be mindful with what we wear and the colours we choose.

My favourite posts were those in my guest series What Brings Meaning to your Life After 50? The same question brought different and thought provoking answers and if you missed the 3-part series be sure to catch up HERE

What is happening in April?

You guessed it!  Another theme and this time a challenge!

#ActiveApril – Let’s get Active and Feel Alive!

I say challenge because I am challenging us all to become more Active not just physically but mentally and spiritually.

Why have I chosen #ActiveApril as a theme?

I’ve chosen this theme for several reasons.  It is Springtime in the Northern Hemisphere so our friends in that part of the world are coming out of hibernation and will be looking forward to warmer weather and being more active again.

I also think it is important to remind ourselves that we NEED TO KEEP ACTIVE in all areas of our life if we want to FEEL ALIVE and FULL OF ZEST FOR LIFE.  For me, I also like to keep fit to enable me to play and enjoy my young grandchildren and to be a role model to them by living a fit and active lifestyle.

What will #ACTIVEAPRIL Mean for You?

I want us all to challenge ourselves to be active daily.  To make the commitment for the month as a start to a new lifestyle and be accountable for making changes to a fitter and healthier lifestyle.

  • Maybe you want to lose weight
  • Maybe you want a more structured exercise routine
  • Maybe you want to challenge yourself mentally and physically
  • Maybe you want support to achieve these goals
  • Maybe you just want to mix life up a bit and get more involved in living each day in good health

I mentioned that it won’t all be about physical exercise.  Being Active and Feeling Alive also needs to come from within and that is why we need to Exercise our Brains daily and connect with our Spiritual Self.

During the month I will be introducing a number of guests.  Women Over 50 who are active and feeling alive.  They will share their thoughts on what they do and hopefully inspire you to try something new or keep going with what you are doing now.

How will #ACTIVEAPRIL work?

If you are really committed to making changes to your life and improving your general health, well-being and fitness then here is what you need to do:

  • Know you aren’t alone and I will be here to support you
  • Join the Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond – Let’s Thrive Facebook Group
  • Follow the plan for the week which will include physical, mental and spiritual exercises.  These will be available each Sunday evening in the FB Group ready for the new week.
  • Check in at the FB Group with your progress every Friday morning.  I want you to feel comfortable with sharing your wins but also your struggles. We are all here to support and help each other with no judgement.
  • Watch the FB Live videos with my tips for the week each Monday morning and Wednesday morning
  • Follow the blog for guest posts and other motivation

I’m excited about April and I hope you will join me in making #ActiveApril a part of your daily life.

What have you got to lose?  We only have one body so we need to look after it!

So are you in?  If you have any tips or questions please feel free to leave in the comments here or in the FB Group.

Sounds great Sue! Looking forward to it all but can’t believe it’s almost April, where is the year going?

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:59

I know the year is flying. Ethan will be 5 in April, Rachel returns to work in April and Elliot will be 1 in May! Stop the world for a little while 🙂

  • Reply Donna March 27, 2019 at 04:23

HI, Sue – Your generosity, hard work and service to others remains incredible. Thank you for all that you do for all of us. I will definitely be following.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:55

Hi Donna, I love helping others to live healthy and happy lives and it helps to keep me motivated as well. I think I’ve found my purpose 🙂 xx

  • Reply Nancy Dobbins March 27, 2019 at 04:29

Looks great Sue! I’m with Donna – thanks for all you do for us…you are an inspiration and a motivator!
Looking forward to the month as it unfolds!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:53

Thanks Nancy! I love getting people motivated because that motivates me. I’m hoping that we can all feel more Active in all areas of our lives. It is all about getting out there and doing rather than sitting moping about and waiting for life to visit. x

  • Reply Sonya Jenkins March 27, 2019 at 05:57

Hi Sue, I am new to reading your blog and I am loving it. As I am not a member of facebook or any social media site I was wondering is there another way to participate in ActiveApril ?

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:52

Hi Sonya if you receive my blog posts I will be including most of the tips and info there. I can also put the FB Live Videos and a weekly post of what to do as well. That way you won’t be left out. Great to have you participating. xx

  • Reply Michelle Weihman March 27, 2019 at 06:39

Having a really good support group (in my age group) is so important! I’ll be checking in on Fridays! #activeapril

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:50

Well I’m here for you Michelle and hope we get a good reaction. It is all about supporting each other and encouraging each other. I’ll be doing a FB Live in the FB group later this morning if you can make it. If not, it will be there to view when you can. Let’s Get Active! Have a great week. x

  • Reply Toni Pike March 27, 2019 at 07:23

Looking forward to it, Sue – love your idea of becoming active in all aspects of our life.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:48

Hi Toni, I honestly believe that feeling Alive is not just about having a fit body. If our mental and spiritual health aren’t aligned with our physical health we never feel quite 100%. I’m hoping we can all learn from each other during the month. x

  • Reply Lydia C. Lee March 27, 2019 at 07:43

I’m trying to exercise more. I need the energy. Dance and riding the exercise bike if I can’t get out to the bay run (for a walk) #MLSTL

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2019 at 07:47

Hi Lydia as long as we keep moving consistently your stamina will improve. I find exercising first thing helps me because I get it done for the day and it also makes me feel ready to take the day on. Hope you will join in with #ActiveApril and we can all support each other. x

  • Reply Min @ Write of the Middle March 27, 2019 at 10:04

Another great theme Sue! I’m not doing too badly in the active department (though not at your level!) but could always do with motivation and inspiration so I look forward to your posts during April. Have a great week! I’m visiting for #MLSTL and will share this on my SM. xo

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:14

Hi Min, I think most of us are pretty active but sometimes it is good to be a little more accountable. I thought doing it as a group might encourage us to do more and maybe try different things. Thanks for sharing and also for linking up at #MLSTL.xx

  • Reply Erica/Erika March 27, 2019 at 10:59

I like your theme #ActiveApril. Catchy, fun, already adds a Spring to my step. I agree with you on staying healthy and active so that we can swim, run (after), carry the grandchildren. I have been out of my routine and out of the country the past two months. For me #ActiveApril will be #BacktoBikram. Yes, this is the challenging, hot, sweaty, yoga class. No, I don’t like heat, sweating and I am not flexible. I just like the results. I began Bikram yoga about 5 years ago. My body significantly improved within a few short months. I was not prepared for the positive changes mentally and spiritually. Thank you for your motivating and enthusiastic post, Sue. I look forward to joining and following you.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:16

Hi Erica, we do need to stay active for our grandchildren and I love that I can keep up with my two grandsons (5 & 1). I do yoga but haven’t tried Bickram yoga. Apart from the heat is it a difficult practice or can any level particpate? x

  • Reply Leanne | www.crestingthehill.com.au March 27, 2019 at 11:34

Well, you’re the perfect person to lead a challenge like this Sue. You always inspire me with how physically active you are, but also that you’re not slowing down in other areas either – you lead a very balanced life where you give out to others as well as keeping yourself fit and active. I’m looking forward to your series and thanks for inviting me to share a little bit of my moderately active life as one of your guests.
Thanks again for co-hosting #MLSTL with me and I’ve shared on my SM xx

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:18

Or the crazy person to lead the challenge Leanne! I just want us all to feel great and if we are moving and stimulating our brains and spiritual side then we are surely well on the way to living a healthier and happier lifestyle. You are active so don’t put your activities down. It takes control to do Tai Chi, strength to do you Gentle Gym and walking is a great exercise. You have it all covered! xx

  • Reply Miriam March 27, 2019 at 12:41

Wonderful post Sue and you know I resonate deeply about leading an active lifestyle and feeling alive. I look forward to another month of your very inspiring posts and following along with you. xx

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:20

Thanks Miriam we are both on the same page in living an active, healthy lifestyle. Hope you enjoy the series. xx

I’m sure I will Sue. xx

  • Reply Jennifer March 27, 2019 at 12:52

Active April sounds just about right. Long days up here, warmer weather, and a built-in need to wipe the winter off my workout shoes

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:21

Hi Jennifer, I’m sure you are looking forward to Spring/Summer and I hope you enjoy reading my guests thoughts on keeping active during #ActiveApril. Have a great week. x

  • Reply Patrick Weseman March 27, 2019 at 12:58

Something I am trying to more and more. I am looking forward to this. #MLSTL

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:22

Hi Patrick it will be great to have you follow along. We can all do that little bit extra movement each day but also keep our brains active as well. Have a great week. x

  • Reply Jo March 27, 2019 at 16:04

Wow Sue is it nearly April already? The year is dashing past. I would love to join in and will when I can, but April to July is looking really bitty for me, and getting into a routine is going to be hard. However, I can hear you saying – all the more reason to join in online! I shall try, if headspace allows. I can’t wait to follow along though and cheer you on from the sidelines 🙂 #MLSTL Shared on SM x

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:24

I know Jo! My grandson Ethan will be 5 in April and his brother 1 in May. Where has that time gone! You have been very busy lately with your Mum not being well so hopefully you can follow along when you can. Have a great week. xx

  • Reply Denyse Whelan March 27, 2019 at 18:25

Well there is no doubt about it, you are a motivating force for many. This is great Sue and I like the way you help so many achieve what you see (and all probably need to see) is important in life. Denyse #MLSTL

Thanks Denyse, I’m inspired to help others as well as myself to keep active and healthy in all areas of my life. Hope you will enjoy the posts during the month. xx

  • Reply Erith March 28, 2019 at 01:56

I’m a big springtime person, it is my favourite time of the year. Based in Scotland I am really enjoying my move out of hibernation. (Less keen on all the chores that now need doing!)
I hope you get lots of interest in your ‘get active in April’ theme #MLSTL

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:28

Hi Erith you must look forward to Spring and Summer. I love Scotland but I’m sure the cold winters would lose their novelty after a while. x

  • Reply Agnes March 28, 2019 at 05:54

Perfect timing, Sue!! As you mentioned, here in the Northern hemisphere we are slowly creeping out a long cold winter. Just this morning I was reviewing my routines, wondering how I could make improvements, realizing Monday was the new month… I’m in for sure!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:34

Great to have you join me Agnes. I’m looking forward to sharing my guests and the ways they keep active plus tips of my own. Have a great week and bring on Spring and #ActiveApril! xx

  • Reply Michele March 28, 2019 at 08:06

I definitely have goals for getting outside and going for walks now that the snow is mostly melted and it is starting to warm up here. Spring makes everything so much easier, and I am tired of being cooped up all winter. I am also looking forward to getting out our bikes and going for evening rides.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 28, 2019 at 09:35

Evening bike rides sound lovely Michele. We are heading into Autumn although Mother Nature hasn’t realised Summer is over – it is still very hot and humid. I’m sure you are looking forward to getting active outside after a long winter. xx

  • Reply Christina Daggett March 28, 2019 at 17:56

Hi Sue, I’m really looking forward to the Active April challenge. I’ll be focusing on mixing things up a bit, since this goes along with my goal of having new adventures. Thanks for inspiring us all to move forward.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 29, 2019 at 15:51

Great Christina and I’m sure you can add some tips along the way as well. Have a great weekend and it all starts next Monday! xx

  • Reply Christie Hawkes March 28, 2019 at 23:34

I’m in! I’m glad you’ve included mental and spiritual activity as well. I’m quite physically active, but haven’t given a lot of thought to mental or spiritual fitness. I mean I know I use my mind on occasion :-), but I haven’t analyzed it the way I have my physical fitness. Looking forward to Active April. Thanks Sue! #MLSTL

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 29, 2019 at 15:52

Great Christie! Yes I do believe that to be totally healthy and happy we have to align physical, mental and spiritual fitness. I hope I can provide some helpful tips and maybe receive some from my lovely readers as well. xx

  • Reply Terri Webster Schrandt March 29, 2019 at 09:15

#ActiveApril is perfect, Sue! Spring has sprung here and so did a head cold and a touch of allergies! We move into our windsurf campground in April, I’ve started a new Tuesday group exercise class at my gym (taking, not leading) and finally feeling like I can get outside in the sun…been an uncharacteristically long grey winter here. Our weather pattern even in Northern California are similar to your geographic area. Of course you know I spent a lovely week in Hawaii, which is inspiring to anyone! Now to get my front tire on my road bike fixed!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 29, 2019 at 15:56

Thanks Terri and it will be great to have you join us and I hope you can mention your experience with the new gym class, windsurfing and cycling. You are one active lady! xx

  • Reply Amy March 29, 2019 at 23:49

How exciting! My activity in April will be gardening, gardening, gardening.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 30, 2019 at 05:44

What a lovely way to keep fit Amy! Gardening can be good for body, mind and soul especially when you start to see the flowers blooming. Have a great week.!

Sue, I am so proud to be your friend and cuz. Your blog has become such an important outlet and tool for all of us to use in creating the best versions of ourselves. As we in the Northern Hemisphere are ‘waking’ up with spring, you guys in the Southern Hemi are preparing for what might be, for some gals, a long winter’s nap. But with your plans for everyone in April, no one will be napping much as we will all be finding ways to thrive and feel more alive. Thank you, dear, sweet, clever YOU.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 30, 2019 at 09:55

You have made my day, Cuz. Sometimes I wonder why I do the blog and if I actually make a difference. Then I receive something like your comment and it inspires me to keep going. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me such beautiful words. Have a lovely weekend and take care. Sending love and hugs xx

Perfect timing for me. Spring is in the air. I’ve met the April 1 project deadline. I’m ready!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 31, 2019 at 17:58

Excellent, Janet and I hope I can provide some inspiration and motivation. The days are getting shorter here and cooler mornings and evenings. Autumn has finally arrived.
