My friend and personal trainer, Nikki Wakerley, sent me a text – ‘want to run in the colour run with me’? Sure I say, not really sure what was involved, although I knew there was some kind of activity combined with coloured paint and that I would definitely need a shower afterwards. The Colour Run is held in various places in Australia and New Zealand.
On Sunday I ran in the Colour Run on the Gold Coast. It is a 5km run/walk/skip/dance whatever you want to do for the 5km, and at each 1km mark you run through the Colour Station where attendants are lined up with squeeze bottles full of powdered paint to throw on you. Sounds crazy but it is called the “Happiest 5k on the Planet” and it certainly was.
It made me happy to see people of all ages enjoying themselves and forgetting about all the doom and gloom in our world and also the skies as rain threatened.
People wearing fun outfits – tutus, wigs, striped coloured socks and headbands getting into the spirit of being happy, laughing and generally finding their inner child. From children to seniors we were all there for one reason to have fun and be happy in the moment. It wasn’t a timed run so people were running, jogging, walking, skipping and dancing along the 5km.
At the end we gathered in front of a stage with a DJ and live music and did a mass ‘colour throw’ drowing everyone and ourselves in a rainbow of colours.
What a great feeling it was and I left feeling upbeat and hopeful that there can still be joy and happiness in the world.

You may not be clean, but you look really happy! Love this idea, what a great way to enjoy a run #Fridayreflections
Yes it took a while to get rid of the colour! I have a multicoloured t-shire now! We did have fun, in fact while we were there my PT said ‘It makes you feel like you are 7 years old again’. That’s a way back for me but yes I did feel happy and carefree. thanks for the comment and have a lovely weekend.
Always looks like fun. My daughter has done that race a fee times.
I signed up last year, but I didn’t make it.
It was in Brussels and one week or so before it, I discovered the organization was very bad. They didn’t even offer any kind of parking. That area of the city is not really the best one. I did not feel safe walking to my car all alone in the evening. So I missed it.
Since this year they also have it in Antwerpen which is really far from me.
I hope they put it together in Ghent though. It’ll be awesome.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.
That is a shame about the organizing Deb. We knew the organisers of this one so it was well done. I hope you can do one because I think you would have a lot of fun.
It looks like a fun event! I love how active you are. Thanks for sharing. #ConfessionsLinkUp
I try Amy! Being active as we get older is important. I’ve just found a facebook page showing seniors in their 80s and 90s sprinting 100m in 20 seconds! I hope I’m like that when I get to that age.
Wonderful! I’ve been meaning to do a colour run. This has inspired me to participate in the next Adelaide one. Thanks for sharing #happydiaries
Yes Kyles it was great fun although messy! My shoes still bear the marks LOL:) I didn’t know you lived in Adelaide so it is nice to speak with another Aussie. I have a cousin who lives there and of course you have the vineyards! Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.
This sounds like a cool event. I think even I could manage 5km though it would be a slow walk rather than a run xx Thanks for sharing Tracey xx #happydiaries
Well that is the great thing about this event. You just walk, run, dance whatever you want to do along the 5km. Lots of people from children to grandparents are involved and it is a lovely happy time. I’m enjoying linking up to #happydiaries. I have my Week2 Review to post for #100happydays as well.
Oh wow that looks like fun!! I did ‘pretty muddy’ over the summer, a 5k run in the mud which was actually quite good fun! Havent heard of this one ^^ but might look it up! Thank you for sharing! #happydiaries
Hi Laura! Yes they have something like that in Australia but hmmm not sure about the mud! It was such fun doing the Colour Run as everyone was so happy and all age groups. You should try it! Thank you for stopping by to comment and have a lovely day!
It was so much fun Laura! I loved that people of all age groups participated and were so happy. You should try it. Thank you for stopping by to comment and have a lovely day!
