Just 20 minutes of exercise

Just 20 minutes of exerciseIts Saturday and I’ve just come back from my regular weekly run with my ‘Saturday Sisters’.  It was quite busy this morning with lots of people walking and jogging to start their day. I heard a couple talking as they walked past. He said ‘I don’t think we walked 6 km’ and his wife replied ‘It doesn’t matter at least we did something’.  That response says it all.  As long as you do some sort of activity you are doing yourself and your body a favour.Just 20 minutes of exercise like walking or stretching or running or Zumba is all we need to be active.  Of course the optimal is 30 minutes x 5 times per week but something is better than nothing.

Being active brings so many benefits

  • It makes us fit which means we can do more and get more out of life.
  • It helps us mentally as it gets the endorphins going – these are the feel good hormones.  You know, when you have exercised and you say “I didn’t really want to go that but I’m glad I did” – that’s the endorphins working!
  • It can prolong our life
  • It can make us social by joining a team or running or walking group

    So true! Often when I haven’t felt like doing anything I think to myself “ok just 10 minutes and you can stop” but before I know it I’ve done an hour and feeling great. Haha
