It’s the little things….#5

June 21, 2023
Conflict Islands

Too often we get caught up in life and forget to appreciate the every day things that bring us joy. Some, as part of their morning ritual when they wake, think of 3 things that they are grateful for. Others journal, others meditate. For me, writing a dedicated post is a great way to stop, reflect and appreciate what has brought some sunshine to my life and it is usually the little things that can brighten my day. All of the little things in one place can add up to quite a few!

It’s the little things….#5

Grateful to enjoy travelling again and experience new cultures

We just returned from a 10 day cruise from Brisbane to Papua New Guinea. PNG was certainly a surprise packet and I’ll be writing more about our trip in the monthly What’s Been On Your Calendar? post at the end of the month.

Grateful for my quality time with my darling husband

The cruise was a wonderful way to spend quality time together with my husband.

Grateful to be home

Travelling and exploring the world is wonderful but there is no place like home. Grateful to be home safe and sound after our adventures.

Grateful cooking – about Bernadette post

I am a member of the Confidential Cook Book Club hosted by Bernadette from New Classic Recipes. Grateful for the opportunity to explore new recipes with new book club friends. Our selection for this month was ‘Nothing Fancy – Unfussy Food for Having People Over’ by Alison Roman. My husband’s birthday was coming up so I decided to make a special dinner for him and selected the Yogurt Marinated Leg of Lamb with Spicy Fennel & Sumac. You can read the post plus find the recipe and my review HERE.

What are the little things that you are grateful for this week or that have brought sunshine to your day?

Hi, Sue – This is such a heartwarming post. I am so happy that you and Mike had such fabulous travel together. Very, very well-deserved!

Hi Donna, it was really wonderful to be able to relax and also visit a culture for the first time. Ready for our next trip now LOL 🙂

We had bushes and a tree planted last week. As someone who loves trees (our house before the last one had over 75), it’s been so hard having only two spindly little ones. We are now up to a grand total of five and will probably not go beyond that as it’s doubtful we would get approval from the condo association.

I spent the entire day with my oldest granddaughter today (Tuesday). I was taking her shopping for her birthday in April. We drove over three hours round trip, and she got nothing! We did eat at the Cheesecake Factory which she loved. But, there is one just 30 minutes from where we live. And, we could have visited almost the exact same stores! But, the time together was precious…just talking about how her life is changing and what’s coming up…all exciting things for her.

Thanks for making me think about these little (and not so little) things. Your cruise photos look wonderful, and I’m looking forward to your post.

Spending time with your daughter would have been precious, Marsha. I know my daughter is very busy with her job so when we have the opportunity to catch up it is a treat. Thanks for sharing your ‘little things that brought joy’ to you this week. Take care and have a lovely week. x

Hi Sue, so glad you enjoyed your cruise. The photo’s look beautiful! I know what you mean about quality time with your husband. I found the same with our holiday. It was much needed too. He still works and plays sport on weekends so we usually barely get any time together. The meal you cooked looks delicious too. Hope you’re having a great week! xo

We had a great time, Min and like you having time away with our partners is always good for the soul. I’m enjoying your posts about NZ. x

The ocean shots are stunning – how beautiful. I didn’t expect the colour to be like that….(I thoughtmore jungle, I guess I didn’t think about it really….) The trip looks really interesting. And the dinner looks yummy too!

I am very grateful this week for the advances in cardiac surgery. Also, I have been busy thanking all the wonderful people who have been supporting me the My Favorite Chef contest. It looks like you had a wonderful trip Sue. I just love taking cruises and seeing new places.

I am so glad you and M had a special time together. Life can be so busy – even in retirement – that we can neglect our special relationship at times. This morning my husband and I are off to have a special morning tea. That will be something we will treasure too. Thank you for sharing your post on Denyse Whelan’s Wednesday’s Words and Pics Link Up this week.

The community we share is a very special one and I am grateful for your presence in it as a fellow blogger.
