International Women’s Day is March 8 and the theme for this year is #EachforEqual. This means not only gender equality but as individuals and groups actively challenging stereotypes, fighting bias, broadening our perceptions, improving situations and celebrating women’s achievements.
One of the social media cards which I downloaded and is the featured image of this post, was a pledge which I believe I achieve through my blog Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond.
I will forge positive visibility of women #EachforEqual
International Women’s Day 2020
Celebrating the special women in my life
On this International Women’s Day 2020, I would like to dedicate this post to the special women in my life. The women who have inspired and influenced me to be the woman that I am today.
My wonderful Mother, Daphne, who despite having died in 1985 still inspires me with her beautiful soul and compassion for others. She had breast cancer at 53 and battled for 10 years but I never heard her complain once and she was always more concerned about others than herself. Such a gentle beautiful soul.

My beautiful daughter, Rachel who inspires me constantly as a successful career woman combining motherhood with two gorgeous sons. Juggling career and motherhood is difficult at the best of times, but Rachel in partnership with her husband Ian, make it work even if sometimes life is hard. I love that despite how busy she is, there is always the night time ritual of songs and reading with the boys before bedtime. If she travels she Face Times them morning and night.
My cousin/godmother Carole who is always there for me and has been all of my life – through the good and the bad times. She never judges but is a strong support and inspiration in my life.

My Mother-In-Law ‘Nonna’ who at almost 94 years old still greets each day with a smile and goes to the gym 3 times a week

This year I want to also Celebrate YOU! The inspiring women I’ve met through the blogging world has been amazing. Over the last 5 years I’ve formed special friendships with bloggers and readers and appreciate the supportive community we have built together. You can read more about my friendships in my recent post Why I blog – 5 reasons blogging enriches my life.
How I celebrate International Women’s Day
Each year I participate in the RACQ International Women’s Day Run in Brisbane. The Saturday Sisters and I run the 10km and earlier this week this photo popped up in my Facebook timeline from 3 years ago.

I will be running again this year to celebrate Women and in particular my Saturday Sisters and our 10 year friendship. They have become my closest friends. Running with them each week and entering events for Fun Runs throughout the year has built a very special bond which enriches my life.
The run this year is a sell out with 13,500 Women, Men and Children registered for the event. Sunday will be a sea of pink and it is always inspiring to see people at all fitness levels getting into the spirit of the morning and also getting healthy at the same time.
For me, I believe that we should encourage and support our ‘sisterhood’ and celebrate regularly and not just on one day. However, it is good to spend the day celebrating our achievements as women and the way we give back to our family and community.

Such a lovely relevant post Sue. I admire your efforts in not only running but recognising those women who have helped make you into the woman you are today. You are strong in mind and body and your daughter sounds like a chip off the old block!! Looking forward to a catch-up very soon ?
Hi Deb, thank you I’m looking forward to our catch-up also. I enjoy spending time with your IRL and am excited to be seeing you next week. Rachel is like me in many ways but perhaps an improved version 🙂 xx

Thank you Natalie these women are very special to me, however I could have listed more. You inspire me with your travel and the life balance you have created. Thank you for our kind words and I actually ran a P.B. so was very happy with that. Have a great week! xx
Congratulations, Sue, on your Personal Best! Have a wonderful week!
Thank you for sharing the pictures and stories of some of the wonderful women in your life. I am not always on top of such things, but I am frequently filled with gratitude for the supportive friends and sisters in my life. I have been blogging about my mom and dad a lot, mixed in with other stories. Like you, my mother, who passed away 25 years ago continues to inspire me.
Thank you Michele, they are very dear to me and I still miss my Mum after all this time. She was indeed a very special woman. xx
Hi Sue – loved all your family pics and I totally agree that we should be celebrating the women in our family and in our frienship circles. The more we support each other and cheer each other on, the more visible we are and the more confident we become. I’m not a screaming feminist, but I completely agree that women deserve to be recognized for the value they bring to the world – especially those like Rachel who are juggling so many responsibilities and doing it so well.
What a wonderful, inspirational tribute to all the strong women in your life! Loved it!!! Good luck in the run. Running sisters are the best!
Thank you, Laurie, I am very grateful to be surrounded by inspiring and loving women, that is for sure. x
