5 things to do on Global Wellness Day

June 7, 2016
Global Wellness Day

I am a firm believer in being healthy and living a holistic lifestyle and I wanted to raise the awareness by highlighting Global Wellness Day – June 11, 2016.  It is celebrated in 86 countries across 7 continents and the slogan is “One Day Can Change Your Whole Life” The official website suggests:

Global Wellness Day : The purpose of Global Wellness Day is to ask the question, even if for just one day, “How can I live a healthier and better life?”, to direct the thoughts of both individuals and society towards “living well” and to raise awareness.

Global Wellness Day

Wellness is not just about being physically well it also encompasses our mental health and spiritual well-being.

Global Wellness Day is a day for us to stop and think about our health and well-being.

  • To stop and breathe
  • To feel gratitude
  • To reduce stress and anxiety
  • To recognise the importance of living well and accepting it as a lifestyle not just for the short term.

“Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
– The World Health Organization.

Wellness and well-being should not just be reserved for adults but we should be actively leading by example and teaching our children the importance of well-being.  Obesity and mental health are increasing worldwide and the message just doesn’t seem to be penetrating.

Statistics in Australia show that 63% of Australian adults are obese with 25% of children and is the second highest contributor to burden of disease.

As adults, it is our responsibility to lead by example and show our children how to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

5 things to do on Global Wellness Day

  1. Walk for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour
  2. Drink 2 litres of water
  3. Make healthier food choices
  4. Be thankful
  5. Do something kind for someone

This is a new day to me. But a very important one. I think as we age we get more interested in good health… maybe as we see what the future could bring.

I agree Carol. When we are younger we think we are invincible but as time progresses we realise that a healthy life is the only way to go. Enjoy your weekend.

I agree too. I’ve never heard of this day and really hope it catches on in the states. I love the list of suggestions and want to do those things every day especially the being kind part.

I’m glad you found me too Helen and hope you visit again. I only found out about Global Wellness Day by accident but it is such a great reminder that health is made up of so many things not just exercise but mind, body and soul.

Did not know about this day. But I did the morning with my grandchildren & daughter at the Houston Health Museum. It’s a great inter-active museum for kids that teaches them about their body and things they can do to stay healthy – sleep, not smoking, exercising, limiting read meat. You would have liked it Sue! So I guess I did observe Global Wellness Day & just didn’t know it!

Sounds like the perfect way to observe Global Wellness Day Cathy! I went for a run and then spent some time with my grandson. I would have loved the inter-active museum I must see if they have one in Brisbane (I don’t think so – maybe we should start one!). Have a great week!

I didn’t know it was Global Wellness Day, but I started the day with a hike, cooked a healthy lunch, drank plenty of water and hung out with some friends in the afternoon. I guess I did pretty well… 🙂 Bringing awareness to wellness is so important!
