Like most people, my life can become hectic – even in retirement – and it is sometimes so easy to lose sight of what is important in our lives. Life takes over, we are tossed back and forth like flotsam on the ocean and it is enough just to survive another day.
We forget how to enjoy life and those whom we love and cherish. We laugh less and are stressed more. Life just isn’t that much fun anymore! It doesn’t have to be this way. However, YOU need to want to make the change and regain your Balance.
Finding the Balance
I’ve been recently writing articles for the Miller’s Seeing Me Project and this week I was reflecting on my Word for 2016 – Balance.
Midlife can bring it’s own challenges and in my article ‘Balance and Nurture’, I discuss the importance of FINDING THE BALANCE IN LIFE that we seek AND NURTURING OUR MIND, BODY & SOUL.
Finding the balance in our lives is more than just slowing the pace. It is about respecting our body by choosing a healthy lifestyle, expanding our mind, nurturing our soul and making time for ‘ME’.
Above all it is a matter of choosing how we spend our time and realising how precious time is and what is important to us.

Yay! First post up and running for Millers – and balance is definitely the key to life and happiness. It is so stressful when things get out of sync and we are putting too much of ourselves into the wrong things. I think this year will be full of choices and opportunities Sue and it will be about choosing the right ones xx
Yes Leanne it will be about choosing the right ones. I really need to get the balance right otherwise life can become a drag! Have a great weekend.
Sue, as fate would have it, I also chose this word for 2016!! Well that speaks volumes right there! I agree that at any age we need to have a balance in our lives. Last year because it was my first year of blogging, I went a bit heavy on the w ork side, burning the midnight oil a bit too much. This year I will not stay up so late (says the blogger who is typing to you at 1 am)! Good night.
Oh Mary we are so alike! Both started blogs last year, both went heavy on the work side and both selected BALANCE as our word for 2016! Let’s help each other find it! Thanks for commenting at 1am I’m honoured 🙂
This is so true! I’m still embarking on adulthood. But, I have trouble balancing too. I think it’s a great word to focus on for 2016. It can be so easy to lose sight of what we really want to be doing.
Yes Gina, balance can be hard to find at any age. As you get older you realise that life is short so you really need to get the balance right as there are no second chances. Thanks for stopping by to comment and have a lovely day. Good luck with your Friday writing theme.
Hi Sue! It’s all about balance, right? I struggle with that a lot…too many to do lists, stress… You’re right, it’s so important to do be spending your time wisely, time is so precious..I realize that when I see my girls get older and see the years go by and sometimes feel I’m not balanced and get overloaded with what I think I have to be doing… My focus this year is to “breathe” which is very important to finding balance as well. Have a great weekend!!
Hi Katrin! Yes it is all about Balance but that is so difficult to get right I find. I look at my children and grandchildren and want to enjoy every minute I can with them. Life is too short! I love your word ‘Breathe’ – Yes I think that goes with Balance perfectly! Thanks for stopping by to comment
Fab post about finding balance – although not in my midlife I still struggle to find balance and it’s something I am defintely working on this year!
Hi Charlotte! I think we need balance at any age really but when you reach midlife you feel as though you should be getting it right by then! Balance seems so simple yet so hard for us to get right! Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
This is great. I wish I had the motivation to get up earlier so I could meditate in the morning. I think that would start my day off just right. I think lunch time might have to be my special time for things like that. I’m loving your writing, Sue!
Balance in anyone’s life, is important. I’m retired and sizzling beyond 60 and I’m still trying to find a better balance for me with my blog life and real life.
Carol I have such difficulty with balancing my blog and real life. This morning was great I spent it with my darling grandson and we went to the library for Rhyme Time and a show it was so lovely to see all the children dancing and singing. That is how I should be spending my time.
You’d think we’d have it nailed by the midlife, wouldn’t you? But I think finding balance just gets more difficult as we age because there are more demands on our time. We tend to want to nurture everyone around us, while neglecting ourselves. I think balance should be my 2016 word too.
Hi Tamuria! I know what you mean. I’m busier now than I have ever been and I am supposed to be retired! That is why I have chosen Balance for this year. If we get the Balance right everything else falls into place!
Hi Sue, I’ve been travelling and catching up on my favorite blogs! Great information and motivation. I may reference this and your blog as I write my booklet on finding more time for leisure!
Hi Terri! I have been following your holiday on FB and looks like you have been having a great time! I would be honoured if you reference my blog in your booklet. We do need to find more time for leisure that is for sure!
Balance is exactly what I am trying to find right now. With trying to broaden my healthy habits it is even harder to find! Thank you for sharing at #overthemoon. Pinned and tweeted.
Yes Marilyn you need to have Balance so you don’t fall ill again. Pleased to hear you are broadening your healthy habits you will feel so much better. Have a lovely day my friend.
