It is time to Ditch the Diet! Just Eat Clean

August 31, 2015
ditch the diet and eat clean

Clean EatingI don’t know about you but I am so over all the different diets that we are bombarded with each day.  I see people taking drastic measures, starving themselves or living on shakes.  Yes, they lose weight but quickly regain it when they go back to normal eating.  In my post Diet is A Dirty Word! I suggest we focus on Healthy eating and lifestyle changes which include looking at the food you eat and exercising.

Well I have discovered the secret to healthy living….Eat Clean & Exercise

No I’m not talking about Paleo just a balanced, nutritious diet.  My personal trainer, Nikki Wakerley, gave me a book for my birthday recently.  It is called “Clean and simple Eating’ by Lorna Jane.  It gives good information on what Clean Eating is and also provides recipes and nutritional information.

What is Clean Eating?

Basically, clean eating is fresh, non processed foods, organically produced.  Now I realise that organically produced food is unfortunately more expensive, however you can still achieve a healthy diet by just cutting out processed foods as much as possible.  Some processed foods are okay such as tinned chick peas and wholewheat pasta.

Eating cleanly means increasing foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts and whole grains, plus healthy proteins and healthy fats in your diet. It also means cutting back on refined grains, added sugars, salt and unhealthy fats.

The good news is you don’t have to count calories and you don’t have to eliminate food groups.

What Are the Benefits of Clean Eating

  1. Energy – you feel more energized and motivated
  2. Glowing Skin – what you put in your body shows on your face.  Eating healthy fresh food with lots of vegetables will keep you skin glowing and healthy.
  3. Positive Mind – Eating a healthy balanced diet will keep your mood swings under control and you will feel more positive.
  4. Feeling Alive – by feeding your body and mind good, healthy and unprocessed food you feel energized, vibrant and alive.

[bctt tweet=”Having a healthy lifestyle is not a diet it is a lifestyle choice forever. “]

I’m a big believer in everything in moderation so that you can indulge occasionally in a treat.  However, the benefits you feel in mind and body when you eat healthy and exercise will make you so much happier and ‘jumping out of your skin’ that you won’t miss the unhealthy alternatives.

Let’s Keep Sizzling!

This is a good post to read for me at the moment, I have been struggling to make better food choices from lack of sleep. I know in my head what I should and shouldn’t eat I just struggle sometimes to make the right choice lol. But I do agree with you that treats in moderation are ok.

Thanks Sam! I find it difficult at times but I think everything in moderation and as long as most of the time we are making the right choices its got to be better than not. Have a great day! Remember you can do it!

Yes I am too Naomi. We don’t eat a lot of processed foods however our diet needs some tweaking. Thanks for commenting and also linking up with us at #AnythingGoes.

Sue, I couldn’t agree with you more. I never understood the reason people diet. If they would change their food choices, move more often and stop eating out so much, I don’t think gaining weight would be an issue. But, let’s face it, today’s eating habits is about convenience and I think that has backfired and has created more of a problem.

Yes people are so busy these days they don’t realise if they set aside some time to prep meals in advance they could still eat healthily.

Hey…this is exactly what I do…and really it so stressless!! Why didn’t I figure this out 30 years ago? jodie

I know Jodie. I used to try all the diets going around and now find that I can maintain a good healthy weight with a balanced diet and exercise. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your weekend.

I limit some processed foods, but others are a bit too convenient. I do try to balance it so I’m eating more whole foods, though than the quick processed ones.

Moderation is the key, which is difficult in the land of plenty. I’ve just had 2 pot lucks at work and 2 ‘let’s order out’ in this week alone!

    • Reply sue September 4, 2015 at 11:46

It is hard Kimberly however if we keep it all in moderation that’s the main key. Some weeks you can’t do it for various reasons but as long as most of the time we try to keep it balanced we are half way there.

You’re right that a healthy lifestyle is a change, a permanent one, not a temporary diet that yo-yos our health.

    • Reply sue September 6, 2015 at 16:28

Spot on Julie! It is a lifestyle change and once we realise that it does become easier and less stressful. I do believe in balance though and still have treats occasionally just not all the time 🙂
