Diet is a Dirty Word!

January 25, 2015
Diet is a dirty word

Diet is a dirty wordHow many diets have you tried?  Since high school I’ve tried every fad diet that is going.  There was the Israeli Army diet, the Atkins Diet, the 30 Days and you will be a supermodel diet, the list goes on.  Today we have the arguments for and against Paleo, Shakes, Low Carb, No Carb, Carb loading….

You have tried all these fad diets, diet pills, shakes that promise quick weight loss (through starvation or eating a lettuce leaf 3 times a day).  Yes you lose weight but as soon as you go back to normal eating the weight comes back on.

That is why I say Diet is a Dirty Word!  Forget the word Diet and all of your excuses and focus on Healthy eating and lifestyle changes which include looking at the food you eat and exercising.

Dieting is a short term fix so remove that word from your vocabulary and rely instead on what I call the 3C’s  – Commit – Change – Celebrate!

Before you can achieve anything in life you need to COMMIT and then CHANGE your mindset and everything you have learned about weight loss in the past.  Finally after you have achieved your goal – CELEBRATE your achievements!

Your goal should not be to go on a diet to lose weight but rather you should focus on living a healthier and fitter lifestyle forever not just until you lose the weight.  Once you start to think and live this way you will see that a by-product of this will be losing weight.

As my personal Trainer, Nikki Wakerley always says ‘Healthiness is Happiness’ and her website and training certainly promotes that.  Nikki has taught me so much about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to stop trying to attain what the media perceives as perfection.

Here is a shock – WE ARE NOT ALL SUPERMODELS AND NEVER WILL BE – however, we can be beautiful in our own right by living a healthy, active lifestyle.

My ’10 Steps to A New Improved You’ can help you achieve a New Improved You in mind, body and soul.  And covers all aspects of a healthy lifestyle including nutrition and sensible food choices, exercise, ways to reduce stress and other triggers that make you overeat.

This plan is not just for women, it is for anyone who wants to improve their healthy and wellbeing and let’s face it Sizzle Towards Sixty!

I’m not an expert in medical or fitness matters. My ideas will be based on personal experience, so before you start any form of lifestyle change consult your doctor and discuss your options and get the okay to go ahead.

In this post, I will summarize the and then over the next few posts I will be explaining the steps in more detail.  Let’s start now!

1.  Look in the mirror

Take a long hard and yes critical look at yourself.

2.  Commit

Now is the time!  You have to make a long lasting commitment to yourself – no one else!

3. Get Organized

Anything worthwhile achieving needs to be planned otherwise you are setting yourself up to Fail. You need to get organized.

4. Before Photo, Weigh In & Measurements

This is Day 1 and you will want a record of where you were to look back and see how far you have come.

5. Make a Mood Board

This will help you keep motivated

6. Change your Eating Habits

Concentrate on eating more vegetables and fresh food and try to cut down on processed foods.

7.  Exercise Daily

Just a 30 minute brisk walk each day will keep you fit and healthy.

8. Increase your water intake

Keeping hydrated all year round will not only flush the toxins from your body but also keep you full.  Sometimes we think we are hungry but really we are just dehydrated.

9. Weekly Weigh-In

If you are wanting to lose weight, don’t jump on the scales every day, but rather select a day each week as your ‘weigh-in’ day.

10. Celebrate your achievements

Each achievement should be celebrated to help keep the motivation going.  Set a goal and when you have achieved it – reward yourself!

Do you feel motivated to start!  I hope so because as the saying goes “If it’s meant to be – it’s up to me!”

I love this post! Yes, diet is a dirty word!! I have been on a few myself in the past and there was nothing positive about them because the benefits weren’t long term. Like you said, “Your goal should not be to go on a diet to lose weight but rather you should focus on living a healthier and fitter lifestyle forever not just until you lose the weight.” It’s all about getting healthier and fitter than the weight loss will happen. Your steps to a new improved you are great also. #WednesdaysWisdom
