Each week I link up to the #WWandPics link up hosted by Denyse Whelan from Denyse’s Words and Pics. In her post, D is for Denyse & Decisions, Denyse used the word ‘Determined’ to describe herself and then posed the question: ‘What descriptors might you add to yourself these days?’
It made me stop, think and reflect. The last couple of months have been taken up with health issues and coming to terms with conditions which despite living a healthy lifestyle, I have little control over because of genetics. At least I know where I stand and if I hadn’t been living a healthy lifestyle, things could have been so much worse.
The encouraging news was the I had an excellent result from my stress test and the cardiologist said my heart function was phenomenal and more than double capacity of what would be expected for someone of my age, height and weight. #grateful.
I mulled over the word Determined and came up with my ideas of who I am based on each letter. I am also determined to live will and enjoy life (my tagline) despite having to make some tweaks health wise.
I’ve also just completed another year around the Sun and at 66 I am determined to make the most of each day, with enthusiasm and zest.

Daily exercising doing things I enjoy to keep my body moving to stay strong, healthy and live well.
T – Traveller

E – Empath
I feel for others and am empathic to their needs and feelings.
R – Role Model (I try to be)
The way I live my life I want to be a role model As we age, we can be role models to our family and friends, sharing wisdom and living life to inspire others lead by example by living a fulfilled life.
M – Mum
I’m a Mum to two children in their 40s but they will always be my children no matter what age they are
I – Saying I love you every day
I make a point of saying this to my husband, children and grandchildren with meaning – I don’t want it to lose it’s value.
N – Nan (my favourite)
My favourite description of me, because my grandsons are such a joy in my life.
E – Encourager
I love to encourage people to live their best life and be the best they can. To achieve their dreams.
D – Dreamer
I’m a dreamer, I still love to have my goals and dreams and plans for what I want to do. If we lose our dreams a little magic goes out of our life.
So what are you determined about? Will you reflect on the word and come up with something that is relatable to you? Will you, like me, be determined to live well and enjoy life?
Have a great week!

Hi Sue – I enjoyed seeing the responses that popped up when Denyse shared her Determined post. It was interesting seeing the similarities and differences in each person’s combination of letters. I think it’s a great way to pluck out the characteristics that are important to you when you do a challenge like this – your’s seemed pretty spot on.
Hi Leanne, yes I enjoyed doing the exercise. Usually I don’t bother but after my recent health issues, I felt Determined was calling to me. Have a lovely week. x
I am determined to lose weight. It’s a struggle at this age. I’ll be 66 next month. I haven’t been this overweight in almost 10 years. We’ll just call it anxiety weight. But, I have a handle on the anxiety, and now, I’m determined to get this weight gone. I’m also determined to adjust to living smaller. We moved to a home less than half the size of our former house almost exactly one year ago. There are things I still haven’t found (and am not entirely sure I didn’t donate).
I bought a new pair of sneakers (do you call them trainers) for walking so it’s time to hit the road! Thanks, Sue! Your blog really encourages me to live my life better.

I’m so happy that you feel encouraged by my blog because that is my goal. xx
I am with you Sue in that Nan (which I also go by) is a beloved portion of my equation. I sense your determination from afar and think you are an excellent role model with all that you have done and are doing. Take care. Bernie
It’s great being a Nan, Bernie. I’m off to collect my grandsons from school – the favourite part of my week. Thanks for your lovely comment. x
What a great list, Sue – you really nailed it
Thanks, Toni x
I love the last one. Dreamer indeed is so important. There is an Indigenous saying “Those who use dreaming are lost” They mean it differently, but even in the sense to dream I think it stands true.
Hi Sue, I too did the little ‘determined’ word exercise on Denyse’s post – coming up with a word for each letter that describes who I am. You and I have quite a few words in common! I’m determined to keep learning and dreaming and to stay positive and not let all the trials that life presents bring me down. Have a great week! xo
This was such a fun way to respond to Denyse’s post Sue, and you’re so clever for making it into a post! I also did the exercise on Denyse’s post and foudn it a fun way to think about myself and my attributes. #WWandPics
Hi Deb, I don’t usually do these types of posts but this one fitted nicely with my mindset after my recent health issues. x
I did this last week on Denyse’s post – I love seeing what everyone has chosen for each letter. I am determined to enjoy life because after all, we only get one crack at it!
Yes, it is a good way to reflect but as you say it is also interesting to see what others come up with. We certainly do only get once crack at life! x
I’m glad to read you are in good health despite a hiccup or two, Sue. You took the right path to stay healthy. Being determined is a crucial skill for handling what life throws at us!
Hi Terri, yes it was a wakeup call and proves that although may think we are healthy, we do need to know our family history to avoid any nasty surprises. x
I love your determined post Sue. I do agree that you are all those things. Best wishes to you for good health.
Hi Jen, I hope you are going okay as I haven’t seen your posts lately. Take care and thanks for your good wishes. x
I liked that post of Denyse’s too and tried to described myself using those letters but it was hard! I enjoyed reading what descriptors everyone else used.
Like you I had a health scare this summer, and after settling down about it and doing some modifications to my diet and more, I’m 100% determined to continue living a good life despite my condition and to not let it define me.
Hi Susanne, health issues can be a wake up call but in a positive way as they make us stop and take stock of our life and what we want our life to be. x
