Welcome to the #wellnessreimagined link up for February. I was pondering what to write for these posts and decided that rather than just giving an update on my month I wanted to provide more information to encourage us all to dive deeper into our health and wellbeing.
This month I want to talk about Reimagining Aging and what it means to you. Last month like many I defined my goals or intentions for 2025. This included all areas of my life and in particular my health and well being goals. I mentioned about the 3 daily wins – physical, mental and spiritual which provides an holistic approach to living well.
Most of the goals or intentions I set, or that others had set were focused on this year. That’s a great start but we also need to look further forward to how we age and what we want our lifestyle to look like in years to come.
Do you want to be independent into your 80s and 90s or are you heading for aged care before your time?
This brings me to the idea of creating a vision board for your health and wellness going forward into your 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. Have you considered this or are you just treading water not sure how to approach it?
You have probably heard of creating a Vision board but have you thought about making a statement that incorporates your Vision for Health and Wellbeing?
Picture any of these health goals:
You would like to lose weight,
or exercise more,
or eat healthier
or give up alcohol or smoking.
You might just want to be able to carry the groceries, bend down and pick up, play with your grandchildren. Normal day-to-day activities that you want to be able to still do in 5, 10 or even 15 years from now.
Excellent ideals for living a healthier lifestyle. But have you actually thought about what life would look like if you achieved your health goal? How much better would life be?
Many of us want to make changes to achieve a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. This is important at any age, but particularly as we enter the Third Age of life.
Creating a Personal Vision statement based around your health and wellness is a good way to help keep us on track and ultimately achieve your goal.
What is a Personal Health & Wellness Vision Statement?
Quite simply, it is a paragraph or two that clearly defines your Health & Wellness goals for life. How you see your ‘healthy lifestyle’ including your physical and mental health. The big-picture of what your ‘best self’ is and WHY you want to make the changes in your life.
Creating a Personal Health & Wellness Vision Statement
1. Download the Health & Wellness Vision Statement template
2. Consider and answer the following questions:
- What does the “ideal” or “best” version of me look like?
- What does the “best” me feel like?
- What am I doing in my ideal state of health and well-being?
3. Define your ‘Why’ – why do you want to implement these changes? What results are you hoping for?
4. Consider What your next steps are – make a list of steps you need to take to develop your ‘best self’ and add to them as you go along.
Examples of what your personal Vision Statement might look like
‘I want to have a regular fitness program that will build Functional strength so I can remain independent and strong as I age’
‘I want to incorporate Functional fitness to help me cope with daily tasks as I get older’
‘I want to remain calm in stressful situations and not become anxious’
‘I want to be able to play with my grandchildren’
‘I will let go of self-limiting beliefs to create the habits and healthy lifestyle I deserve by daily commitment, focus and self-love’
What is your Personal Health & Wellness Vision Statement? I would love you to share it with me.
My Vision for Health & Wellness
“My vision for health and wellness is to nurture my body with movement and nourishing food, keep my mind sharp and curious, and honor my emotional well-being through self-care and meaningful connections. I embrace aging with gratitude and aim to live each day with vitality, purpose, and joy.”
How do you envision health and wellness for yourself? Do you have a specific focus, like balance, vitality, or peace?
Redefining Age Milestones
I was recently interviewed by Peta Gillian from Strong Health Women and we discussed Redefining Age milestones – What Will your 60s, 70s and Beyond look like? I shared my story, what is important to me and why I do what I do to stay healthy and active at almost 68.
A February Challenge in the Daily 30 Exercise Facebook Group – Come Join Us!
During February, the WLWA50 Daily 30 Exercise FB group are taking on the challenge of cutting out Ultra processed foods. Each week I have a theme we will be following. We’ll focus on cutting out ultra-processed foods and embracing whole, nourishing alternatives. Ultra-processed foods—like chips, sugary snacks, frozen meals, and sodas—are often packed with unhealthy additives, excess sugar, and unhealthy fats. Over time, they can take a toll on our energy, digestion, and overall health.
Join us for the February Clean Eating Overhaul Challenge as we ditch the ultra processed foods and reap the rewards of healthy eating.
Friendly February – Action for Happiness calendar
A new month means a new calendar from the Action for Happiness Team and this month the theme is Friendly February.
When we say fitness, we usually focus on the physical, but my dear readers will know that my approach to health and fitness is holistic. I try to maintain good health and well being for my physical, mental and emotional health. During Friendly February it is important to remember that we need to maintain our “social fitness” just like our physical fitness .
You can find your copy of the calendar by clicking on the link to my post Why you need to take care of your social fitness as well as your physical fitness
Recap of January
I was pretty happy with my January, working out most days and increasing our distance for our long Saturday runs in preparation for running events in 2025.
Each week I ticked off:
🙌3-4 strength workouts
🙌5 walks/runs including 1 long run each Saturday
🙌 recovery day which included stretching and yoga
🙌entered the Brisbane Half Marathon with my daughter
🙌spending time in nature
🙌socialising for mental and spiritual health
🙌dental check up and clean
Goals for Feb
My goal for February is to remain consistent with my workouts and eating as little processed food as possible. We are taking a cruise from Sydney to Brisbane for 4 nights and then spending a few days in Sydney before heading home. Whilst I like to relax and enjoy my holidays and travel, I will try to maintain some level of balance between enjoying myself and staying on track with my health and wellness goals.

Hi, Sue – I like how you’ve framed wellness as a lifelong vision rather than a short-term goal. The idea of creating a Personal Health & Wellness Vision Statement really is a powerful way to stay intentional about aging well. Your holistic approach, incorporating physical, mental, and emotional well-being, is inspiring. I especially appreciate the reminder that small, daily wins build the foundation for long-term vitality. Looking forward to following along with the February Clean Eating Overhaul Challenge. See you there!
Thanks, Donna. I’m all about balance and thinking about what I want to be doing when I’m 70 (in 2 years can you believe), 80 and beyond. x
Sue. Did my comment not come thru?
Hi Bernie, yes it came through on the Substack Newsletter which also contained the Wellness Reimagined post. xx
Ah… I guess I was slightly lost in where I read it! Anyway, I love your sparks of joy, and I am so grateful that I started the gratitude practice a few years ago.
Sue you have done so well in January, ticking off so many goals. I love your mission statement. I will give thought to mine. I have been going to do a vision board but lost track of it. Thanks for being such a great support on the challenge page. It’s making a difference.
Hi Jen, I think we’ve all started the year well and I believe the FB group and the Wellness Reimagined link up will help to keep us all on track. x
Hi Sue, this is a great way to look to the future and have a vision statement. Mine would be similar to what you’ve written but I will try and come up with something. Thanks for all the information you share with us and the motivation and support you provide in the facebook group and here on your blog. It was a great idea to have this linkup as we can all learn so much from each other and I love reading everyone’s posts.
Hi Deb, we usually plan for the year but we do need to think about what we want to be like in decades to come. I don’t think it has to be too complicated. Something simple and doable to keep us active for as long as we can be xx
This is a great exercise Sue, I may give it a go. Good to have something to aim towards, and to hold ourselves accountable.
Hi Gail, it doesn’t really take long but we do need to plan further than one year. I think there is a feeling of comfort too, knowing you have a plan that will keep you active and fit and independent long into the future. x
“but we also need to look further forward to how we age and what we want our lifestyle to look like in years to come.”
I wish I’d attended more to this in my 50’s when I first retired. At 70 I am trying not only to maintain my present level of fitness but improve it. The Women Living Well After 50 30 minute Daily Exercise Challenge Facebook Group has proved a great motivater.
Hi Carole, I’m so pleased you are finding the FB group useful. I think we have a great core group that are supportive and motivate each other. I’m glad you are part of that. x
Hi Sue, I like how you view health and wellness with both short and long lenses and take a holistic approach to wellness. You did great checking off your January goals. Enjoy the cruise in February. I look forward to reading your post-cruise blog.
I’m looking forward to the cruise, Natalie and also visiting my home town of Sydney. I don’t often get back there. x
Hi Sue, I’m back to say thank you for linking up with Weekend Coffee Share. It’s great to have the cruise and Sydney to look forward to. Have a wonderful week ahead.
HI Natalie, thank you and we are looking forward to Monday when we sail away. x
A health and fitness vision board is a good idea. I’ll to have a think about what that would look like. You know what I’m like – I’ll make a statement and then promptly forget it unless it’s there front and centre.
What an inspiration! As I near 50 I know I need to focus in on my physical short and long term goals. I’ve spent the last five years focusing on my mental and spiritual goals and feel good about where I am and where I’m going on those fronts. Now to add that next layer in 🙂
Thanks so much for you lovely comment, Melissa. I’m so pleased to hear that you have included mental and spiritual goals. They are equally as important as our physical and life goals aren’t they? Lovely to meet you x
I loved this Sue and saved it to read again later when I can focus. I’m going to incorporate some of this as I’m really trying to get myself back on track.
Thank you Kirstin, I’m so pleased you saved the post and hopefully it will provide some guidance for you. Have a lovely weekend. x
