We have been focusing on 31 days to Focus on YOU for July. It is always encouraging to receive feedback from readers and I’ve included this comment because it made me think about an important point about how we should few our plans, lists and goals.
I love your 31 days plan! And so many other things about this post! Congrats on the progress you’ve made on your 2017 list. I really appreciate the way you have set reasonable goals for 2017 and for the 31 days. I got carried away with my list for this year and though I’ve accomplished several things on the list, I can’t help but be a little discouraged. Oh, well, who says I can’t carry them over a few months?
Now you all know I’m big on lists and setting goals – that is just the way I’m programmed. I’m someone who needs to work towards something.
However, sometimes we can’t always tick off as quickly as we would like. Life gets in the way and as my reader commented it can be a little discouraging.
Don’t stress, cut yourself some slack & move forward
I think that sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves – I know I do. I feel that I have let myself down if I don’t achieve something I’ve set out to do. Learning to accept and relax a little is just as important in achieving anything in life, because if our mindset isn’t in the right place we won’t achieve anything. It is important to consider our mental health and the importance of taking a mental health day.
However, cutting ourselves some slack should not be confused with giving up or just being lazy – they are two different mindsets. In my post, 4 Ways to Get Back On Track When Life Gets In the Way I talk about ways to get back into your fitness goals. However, the suggestions really apply to anything you are wanting to achieve.
So if you are working towards a goal or just ticking items of a list remember to succeed you need to :
- Be Flexible
- Accept that life can produce obstacles
- Get back on that bike and move forward
The one thing you should never do though is GIVE UP!

Life will always get in the way, and the conditions will never ever be perfect. In a way, with the lists I make and the targets I see, I plan to fail. I’m one of these people who needs to have something to aim for and if the list is nearly done or nearly empty I’ll slack off. For me having too much works best. Weird, but true.
Well they do say if you want something done give it to a busy person Jo, but sometimes we do get too caught up in deadlines and put pressure on ourselves because of our expectations. Have a great weekend xx
Life has a tendency to get in my way quite often. I have to work around it all the time. I have had to learn that I can’t always accomplish what I want. That was a huge pill to swallow for sure! This is all wonderful advice.
Thanks Crystal and yes we do have to work at it and come up with a balance that we are happy with. Have a great weekend xx
I think you’re so right about there being a difference between cutting yourself some slack and just giving up. Often if we ease up the pressure on ourselves a little (we’re the one that put it there in the first place!) then we can get our momentum back and finish what we started – better late than never!
Sometimes it can be a fine line Leanne but I think we know ourselves when we need to take the pressure of and when we are just being lazy. Enjoy your weekend xx
I agree with you Sue, it’s important to cut ourseleves some slack at times. I know input too much pressure on myself and am trying hard to ease off a bit. Great advice once again. Thanks ?

Great post, It’s so good to have a focus and try to aim for all the points you set out for. If I dont then I wander and nothing seems to get done atall.

As time goes on, I have learned not to be so regimented and to go with the flow. I don’t ” Sweat the Small Stuff” in life. Great post!!
Thanks so much for taking the time ti stop by!!
Hugs,
Debbie

Giving ourselves some slack is great advice, Sue. I especially find that women don’t do this enough!
We certainly don’t Donna – the guilt trip is always just below the surface. Thanks for commenting even while on holidays. Hope the trip is going well. x
