3 easy ways to create your happy space

I recently read about finding your happy place.  A place you can just step away from the world for a while and be relaxed and restful.

Do you know that you don’t actually need a physical place to go but can find your happy place within your mind?

For me my happy place is sitting in the sun with my eyes closed and just thinking about all the good things in my life.  My happy place is found in creating happy thoughts.

3 easy ways to creating your happy place

There are many ways you can create your ‘happy place’ so here are 3 easy ways to start.

1. Revisit your good times

Looking back through photos of good times can evoke happiness and take our minds out of the everyday for a while.  I love looking at old family get-togethers or travels that my husband and I have taken.  Seeing other people laughing automatically makes you smile and feel better.

2. Breathe and be silent

Take a few moments to breathe slowly and also to be silent.  Let your mind dwell on something or someone that always brings happiness to you.  It might be seeing a beautiful beach or sunrise or for me, it might be thinking of my grandson and the joy he brings to my life.  Earlier this year, I started to change my morning routine to take a few moments of reflection on the good things in my life. It certainly makes me feel happy and ready for the day.

3. Create a relaxing space just for you

Setting up an area at home which is ‘your space’ where you can take time to relax and reflect could become your happy place.  It could be inside or in the garden – anywhere that makes you feel contented.

    This is so true Sue. I have a happy place but it is actually a physical place, my glasshouse/sunroom in the backyard. It’s light, it’s warm, it lets me be ‘in’ the garden but protected from the cold air outside, it is relaxing, I have a lounge and can play music, read a book or just enjoy some peace and quiet. I always feel better afterwards from being in there. It’s a godsend during our cold winter months and cool spring days.

      Oh that sounds exactly what my physical happy place would be Debbie. It sounds perfect. For the last 10 years we have been living in a flat downstairs from my in-laws. It was only supposed to be for a few months and turned into 10 years. It is quite dark so I love escaping to our apartment at the coast which is just full of light and so open I always feel good when I walk through that door.

    I agree with these tips, Sue, especially #2 on being silent. Although it does not come naturally to me (not at all), I am amazed at how effective it is when I do succeed with it!

    I always look at those pictures on Pinterest of lovely little garden bowers set up for morning tea in amongst the flowers – then I start wishing I had a green thumb so I could have one too!

      Yes I would love a garden like that Leanne but alas my thumb is not green! I missed out on that gene as my cousins are all excellent gardeners x
