Hands and neck – these are the two areas of our bodies that we sometimes neglect as part of our beauty routine. I’ve often read you can tell a woman’s age by looking at her hands. Dermal fillers for the face are quite common and many women use this procedure to reduce the signs of aging, however, I’ve not heard of using this type of cosmetic procedure for my hands.
My philosophy is that beauty comes from the soul, however, I have no problem with women who turn to cosmetic surgery. Some of us wear our story on the lines in our face proudly yet other women find self-confidence in getting a little help to slow down the aging appearance of their skin. We are all individuals and seek to live our lives on our terms.
Women Living Well After 50 is about informing, educating and inspiring and to promote discussion around a range of topics. My guest writer, Jennifer Rankin is currently studying “Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” at Manchester Metropolitan University. Hand Fillers – what are they and do they work?
As years pass by, the inevitable that we fear about gets closer and closer – ageing. When we think about ageing, we tend to associate it with wrinkles and discolouration in our face. But did you know that some of the first signs of ageing tend to occur on your hands?
As this becomes more common knowledge, women are becoming more concerned about the appearance of their hands. Considering how early the tell tale signs of ageing show on your hands, you may feel the appearance of your hands don’t match the youthful look of your face.
To address these concerns, there’s been a recent interest in hand injections, which are dermal fillers that can be used on your hands. Is this the key to you resolving your ageing issues? We take a look at the procedure in more detail to see whether it could be an option for you.
What are hand injections?
Hand injections are dermal fillers which can be applied specifically to your hands. Its purpose is to restore the youthful appearance of your hands. The serum that’s used in the injections contains high concentrations of hyaluronic acid which helps to increase collagen levels and improve the elasticity of your skin.
What are the benefits of hand injections for patients?
You may be wary about the impacts of cosmetic procedures and what influence they’ll have with your hands. Why hand injections tend to be a popular option for patients is that the procedure is relatively quick, which means you don’t have to spend countless hours in the clinic.
If you feel worried about any complications occurring, hand injections are low-risk, especially as it’s a form of non-invasive surgery. This also means that there’s no downtime in the procedure, so you don’t have to worry about needing to rest your hands or take time off work to recover.
What to look for in your hand injection surgeon
The use of dermal fillers in the hands has been a form of cosmetics that has been recently developed. WIth it being a relatively new procedure, it’s important that you find the right surgeon to conduct your procedure.
Therefore, you should seek a surgeon that is qualified and certified to conduct it. In order for the surgeon to be qualified, they should have some injector experience. The injections require insertion into the correct blood vessel for the collagen to develop. If this is performed incorrectly, there can be complications that form including scarring numbness and decrease in motion in the hands.
However, in a qualified surgeon you can be certain that you’ll be provided with the results that you’re looking for and your treatment will be safe.
Could you be considered a good candidate for the procedure?
Do you feel as though you’re seeing the common signs of ageing in your skin? Are your hands being affected in particular? Are you looking to tackle these signs of ageing in your hands? These are all common questions that you might be asking yourself if you’re considering hand injections for your cosmetic surgery.
Patients that commonly go for the procedure tend to be around the ages of 45-85 years old. This is because this is the age range where the common signs of ageing show on your skin. However, any healthy adult who wants to rejuvenate the appearance of their skin can be considered for the procedure.
