‘Choose to help’ on International Day of Happiness 2022

March 20, 2022

20th March is the UN International Day of Happiness, but with all that is happening in the world – war, COVID, floods, inequality and uncertainty, it is certainly difficult to feel happy isn’t it?

The message for this year’s International Day of Happiness is Choose to Help. In a recent, post I wrote about the guilt we can experience when our life is going well, whilst other’s are experiencing so much devastation and hardship. The International Day of Happiness is the perfect time to start helping others and in doing so, find your own happiness.

What is International Day of Happiness?

The International Day of Happiness is an annual UN event promoting the idea that happiness is a global human right.

The campaign is organised by non-profit Action for Happiness, and aims to reduce global inequality, end poverty and protect the planet for future generations.

Ways we can help others and also importantly ourselves

  1. Share positive messages. It is difficult to remain upbeat and positive all the time however sharing positive messages can inspire others and also lift our own spirits. Living in an online world means it is easy to spread positive vibes to promote, peace, kindness and understanding. Let’s not forget though the in real life personal connections. Contact a friend who might need a chat.
  2. Connect with people. Know someone who is struggling or are in crisis? Reach out to offer your care and support.
  3. Give directly. Donations in the form of money, food, clothing or even your time can have a huge impact on helping others and to bring some relief into their lives.
  4. Helping yourself our own mental health and well-being is enhanced when we are feeling happy and contented. Take time to do something that brings happiness to you not just for International Day of Happiness but for every day.

Thanks Janine! I think we can all be reminded that kindness is so important, especially during these times. I like to think I’m ‘sending a far reaching ripple across the internet’ but we can all do this, can’t we? Enjoy your week. xx
