Last month was my birthday and it was a week after we moved to a new house which I shared with you in my post ‘BE-ing in August Life Changes & another year around the Sun’. We were still surrounded by boxes and settling in but my daughter was adamant that my special day should be celebrated. One of the upsides of our move is that we now live only a 4 minute drive from my daughter, SIL and two grandsons – bliss! It is wonderful to be so close as before it was over an hour’s drive and last Sunday we met for an impromptu run together and enjoyed some mother/daughter time.
Birthday Treats – A party afternoon Tea
We had a lovely party Afternoon Tea, hosted by my daughter & SIL and my son and his family came along as well. I am always in my ‘happy place’ surrounded by my loved ones and we took time out for unpacking to enjoy some quality family time.
On the Menu
Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Bilinis (Blinis are pancakes made from buckwheat flour)
Pizza Scrolls – easy to make using sheets of puff pastry
Prawns
Cheese Platter
Mini quiches
Fruit Platter
Mini Italian Meatballs
Cocktail Frankfurts with tomato sauce for the kids (although some of the adults are still kids at heart)

The Birthday Cake

A few days before, my daughter asked me what type of cake I would like. I suggested her baked cheesecake or a chocolate cake. I know how extremely busy she is with family and career so I suggested she just buy a cake. But NO!, a bit like her Mum she decided that she would make a cake for me made out of love.

Hi Sue – how lovely for you to have the family throw you that birthday party and to have a daughter who loves you enough to make a baked cheesecake in your honour. BTW I keep meaning to tell you how much I like how your hair’s been looking lately – the slightly longer length really suits you. x
Hi Leanne we had such a lovely time and no long drive home was even better! Thanks for the compliment about my hair too. x
You look so happy here Sue surrounded by your family and I’m so pleased you are nearer to them all now, you won’t know yourself! Your birthday treat looks delicious and I am not opening the cheesecake recipe because by doing so I will gain extra kilos but I’m sure it was yummy. Great post for WOYP this month 🙂
Hi Deb it was a lovely afternoon and a good rest from unpacking. x
That looks wonderful, Sue – I’m so glad you had a fabulous birthday. You’re so lucky to have such a loving daughter. Toni x
I am very lucky Toni and it was so much fun spending time with both my children, their spouses and my grandchildren. x
I love everything on that birthday menu (including the cocktail frankfurts meant for the kids). That cheesecake looks delicious — and definitely oozes love! Only 4 minutes drive from family is awesome!
It was such a lovely afternoon Donna without too much fuss. Of course avoiding a one hour drive home was the icing on the cake x
We used to call parties like this party parties – I still love them. Lots of little bits and pieces to pick at. How very special – and the cheesecake looks yum!
You can’t beat a party party can you Jo? It was such a lovely afternoon x
Your birthday celebrations look wonderful – a true family get together with your loved ones. Your daughter’s cheesecake looks amazing. My family usually request chocolate and raspberry roulade for our celebrations.
OOh Chocolate and raspberry roulade sounds delicious. I am certainly enjoying being closer to my family that’s for sure. xx
