I recently was invited to join a group of Boomer Bloggers to contribute our thoughts each week. Today it is my first time as host and I would love to introduce you to them all. Some you may follow or have been a guest writer for Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond, but you might also meet some new ones today.
‘Oh the weather outside is frightful’
Here in Australia it is Summer and we have been melting with record high temperatures, whilst in the U.S. blizzards and snow storms have caused havoc. Some boomer bloggers found ways to escape the weather extremes, one discovered the ‘Colour of the Year’ and another a film with a message for us all which is not to be missed.
Brutally cold weather and January’s ‘bomb cyclone’ blizzard kept Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting indoors four days in a row. Since activities were cancelled and driving impossible, she spent time watching TV and cruising the Internet. Baer comments on one of the articles she came across in The Color Purple Rocks.
This week, Laura Lee Carter decided to write about an unforgettable new movie she saw last week. Jungle, a true adventure story, is about getting lost in an Amazon rain forest for weeks. This film provides amazing insights into how our mind adapts when we find ourselves in impossible situations.
Never say never when you retire
Tom Sightings has been busy this week. He’s taken on a job; he’s heading off to Florida; and he’s offering a link to an article he’s written for the U. S. News Retirement website. Take a look at What’s the Point of Retirement? And, he says, stay warm!

Rebecca Olkowski takes a walk around Universal CityWalk-Hollywood above Universal Studios. It’s a fun and entertaining place to hang out if you’re ever in Los Angeles. Make sure to check out the photos.
On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, writes about how to get the best price on an airline ticket. Some of the tips include
- use websites that compare airlines,
- pick off-season times of the year,
- choose the best day to travel, and
- buy at the right time, usually the middle of the week and at least a few months ahead. However, a recent report has Sunday as the best day to buy.
Find Motivation, Maintaining a Calm Center and Learning to Thrive
Looking for that motivation? Looking for the creative spark? That divine inspiration to keep going on your passion project? Then look no further than yourself, it’s already in you. You are the stars and nothing should hold you back from reaching for them. You truly are stardust and that’s not just Joni Mitchell saying so. An Astrophysicist says so as Jennifer, of Unfold AndBegin, explains in All the Atoms in the Universe.
It’s hard to maintain a calm center when overcome by suffering or grief. At A Healing Spirit, Carol Cassara discusses the need to feel through those emotions and let them out by Maintaining a calm centre.
Finally, I’ve started the year excited about my Over 50 & Thriving Guest Series and my first guest writer, Leanne from Cresting the Hill gave us her definition of a Midlife Perennial. I’ve also used the first week of the year to reset my health and wellbeing goals by Thriving through good health and wellbeing.
Let’s Keep Sizzling!

What a great summary, Sue. You’ve inspired me to read more. Thank you for sharing these.
Yes I was happy to be asked to join as I like to be connected more with those in my niche or demographic rather than yummy mummies which demographic unfortunately, I’m past.

Yes Carol asked me to join and I knew Jennifer but the others were all new to me as well. x
So you’re a Midlifer and a Boomer Sue? It looks like you’re stretching your wings even further and it’s nice to see so many interesting Boomer bloggers sharing their ideas and promoting each other.
I think I’m on the cusp really Leanne but at least it isn’t a recipe or yummy mummies LOL:)
Great job Sue! Looking forward to more of your individual and group posts.
Hi Meryl thanks for the positive feedback and I hope you enjoy reading more. Have a great week!
Great layout Sue. I’m glad you’re staying warm while I’m freezing. I’m glad you’re in the group!
Oh thanks Jennifer! I wasn’t 100% sure what I should do but I followed yours and one of the previous ones and came up with this. Thank you also for the welcome, I’ve met some new bloggers by being in the group. Take care of your shoulder and rest up. xx
