Being an Active Participant in Life – Week 3 Recap

April 21, 2024

How did you fare Being an Active Participant in Life Challenge in Week 3?

For me, this last week, it’s been very up and down – but that is life! I started the week full of good intentions and made my plan then life took over with unexpected medical appointments for Mike and another not-so-nice reaction to the Shingles vaccination for me, which saw me laid up for two days. This played with my mindset a little I have to admit but I’ve accepted life isn’t perfect and I’ve moved on.

Consequently, my plans for the week changed but I did write last week that Plans need to be flexible!

Being an Active Participant in Life – Week 3 Recap

On a positive note I did manage to be an active participant in life as well as listening to my body:

  • 4 days of some form of movement – walking, running and strength
  • Shingles vaccination – although I didn’t enjoy my reaction to my second shingles shot, being uncomfortable for a day or so is much better than contracting shingles. My MIL contracted shingles on her 90th birthday she suffered with terrible pain and was still experiencing nerve pain for years later.
  • Laid up I did manage some extra sleep
  • Laid up I did manage to read (one of my favourite past times)
  • I celebrate friendship and my friend’s 50th birthday with a delicious High Tea. I enjoyed the company of three dear friends including my daughter which was wonderful and just what the doctor ordered.
  • The High Tea was an opportunity to dress up and feel a bit better about myself.
  • I felt well enough to attend the Run Army 10km Run event supporting my own Army Vet – my darling. With ANZAC Day on 25th April it is a way to recognise the sacrifices made by others to protect our Country and also support the Legacy scheme for families of fallen veterans. This year the Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade were also included. I surprised myself and came 3rd out of 20 in my age group! I was just happy to finish after the week that I’ve had.
  • I managed a photo shoot (thanks to my darling husband) for a Mother’s Day Promotion for Fella Hamilton and an Active wear brand, Happy Healthy Fitness.

I’d love to hear how you were being an active participant in life this week so tell me about it in the comments below.

Have a wonderful week!

Oh, I’m so glad you got your shingles shot. I got mine a couple of years ago, and it laid me low, too. But, all vaccinations do that to me. Both of my sons got shingles this year! The oldest had lots of nerve pain. The youngest really just had a bit of a rash. Neither of them can get the vaccination because they’re not old enough…that seems so silly to me.

This week started with movement as I mowed the yard. I can count on getting at least a mile in that way and definitely 30-40 minutes. But, then I came down with a nasty virus and have only just started to feel better. But, next week is a new week!

I hope you are feeling better, Marsha. My MIL had shingles at 90 and the nerve pain never left her. It is very painful. I don’t understand why the vaccine isn’t available to those who have contracted shingles? Here you have to be over 65 I think. x

Feeling much better now thanks, Deb. I surprised myself with the run and it goes to show just how fit we really are. x

All in all, despite not feeling the best, it was a good week. Awesome about the run! So impressed. I am on the edge of signing up for a triathalon so I need all the inspiration I can get. I am glad you got the vaccine despite the reaction because as you said shingles suck! You look very nice in those modeling shots! Bernie
