Be-ing in March – My 2022 WOTY Update

Well March is almost over and I can feel the mornings and evenings starting to cool down as Autumn approaches. We did swelter through a couple of very humid days early in the month, as Mother Nature wasn’t too keen on cooling down. This is my third monthly update so triple tick for me with consistency. Can you believe we are almost at the end of the first quarter of 2022 and so much has happened in that short time.

So here is my monthly update for my 2022 WOTY ‘BE’.

BE-ing GRATEFUL

March was certainly roller-coaster ride for many, here in Australia and around the World. It seems, COVID has had to take a back seat with all the other devastating happenings around the globe.

Queensland and NSW experienced another ‘once in a 100 year flood’ (although it has only been 11 years since the last ‘once in a 100 year flood’ was declared). I am grateful that my family was not affected but so many lost their homes and coming after COVID I can’t believe the resilience of the human spirit.

We are reading about the atrocities happening as Russian invades Ukraine. The news and images are shocking and makes one feel helpless.

We have also read of recent celebrities in Australia who have died from heart attacks. Two were 52 and one 73 all too young but a sobering wake up call to all of us to check our health and also make each day count.

I wrote and discussed the feeling of ‘survivor guilt’ in podcast episode Overcoming guilt when life is going well for you. This was after a conversation I had with some friends who were all expressing their ‘guilt’ at how good life was for them at the moment.

BE-ing HEALTHY

Three friends joined me for a 30 day Fit and Fabulous Get Healthy ‘challenge’. We’ve all been feeling a little off track, yes even someone like me who is a Group Fitness Instructor and Marathon runner, can fall off a healthy lifestyle, especially when life gets in the way.

We have each set our goals for the 30 days with weekly goals and accountability to each other. We are working out together twice a week and doing our own form of exercise on other days.

It’s so much easier to try to achieve a goal when you are doing it with someone else. I love these ladies and we really support each other through good times and bad.

Our first workout together was certainly full of energy and enthusiasm so bring it on!

BE-ing PEACEFUL

A surprise arrived in the mail from my good friend, Donna at Retirement Reflections. Her WOTY is Peace which is perfect for 2022 because the world certainly needs more, doesn’t it? Donna has started ‘The Travelling Book of Inner Peace’.

As Donna writes in her post “The hope is that you will read it, gain inspiration, and share it. When finished reading, please sign your name and city to the adjacent list and then pass it on. “

BE-ing FLEXIBLE

Mr M and I are considering moving back to be closer to family so major changes could be in the wind. We haven’t quite decided yet and it depends on certain factors, but I would say it is 99% going to happen. Change can be unsettling so we need to be flexible in our mindset as well as being flexible when home inspections from potential buyers are organised.

BE-ing PROACTIVE

March 8 was International Women’s Day and this year the theme was #BreakTheBias . I endeavour to be proactive in trying to #BreakTheBias of Ageism and Stereotypes for Women Over 50. For my contribution I posted to social media and also recorded a podcast which you can listen to HERE. I also wrote a post for our What’s On your Bookshelf? link party: How Charlotte Bronte used writing to #BreakTheBias before it was a hashtag in 2022.

BE-ing HAPPY

20th March is the UN International Day of Happiness, but with all that is happening in the world – war, COVID, floods, inequality and uncertainty, it is certainly difficult to feel happy isn’t it? In my post I shared some easy ways we can help others as well as ourselves.

BE-ing a Limb Dweller or a Trunk Dweller

    So much for “BE-ing” being ‘easy’;…OK, no-one said it did they including Malcolm Fraser who said “life wasn’t meant to BE easy”. You have ticked some good self care boxes Sue and admitted to where you are not being completely aligned to your goals..and YES to this too. Because, we can fall down but we get back up again. I am learning this too for me. I know a ‘move’ BE-ing on the cards will have its moments but if the end goal is met, it will be worth it. Thank you to you and friends for this link up.     Hi Sue – you’re certainly BE-ing a great example of how to live life well – and even with a potential house move in your future, you seem ready to embrace the next life change instead of worrying about it.     Hi Sue – thank you for sharing your updates on your WOTY progress in March. You do such an amazing job of keeping healthy and fit. You are very inspirational and making me consider taking up running again. I haven’t quite got round to pulling on my trainers yet though. I think so many of us feel our healthy habits have fallen by the wayside through COVID. I loved your interview with Sandy – I think I might be a limb dweller! Good luck with your possible move. It’s always a hard decision but once we make a decision, life feels easier.

    Oh yes, friends and family can be wonderful for helping us stay accountable to our healthy goals can’t they? I used to share a Wellness Wednesday post on my blog that kept me accountable and I’ve been thinking a lot about getting back to that. Good luck with the move if it happens…and I think knowing flexibility is key is really important in keeping that stress down.

    Hi Sue! That picture of you in the pink shirt is amazing–you are so fit and an amazing testament to how women can be fit well past 50. I’m struggling with my weight now: foot surgery in 2019, covid shutdowns of gyms in 2020 into 21 and then moving have all take their toll on my keeping on track with both exercise and eating right. But I’m off to my monthly WW weight in (aargh), to face the music and get on with my life. BE-ing is what I also strive for and I enjoy my daily WALKs for exercise and contemplation. I have been feeling more anxiety lately and it makes sense that I’m feeling that “survivor” guilt in my world while Europe struggles with their very lives. I’m excited to read that you are moving to be closer to family…you will always have the beach, but family is more important. That is the main reason we moved from California as well. Thank you for the link party and as soon as I get back from my meeting I’ll check out more posts!

      Oh Terri, I’m sorry you’ve had all of those struggles at once but knowing you, you will overcome them. I loved your post about your WOTY Walk this month it was so helpful. I also feel we are all feeling anxious. Mike and I are still recovering mentally from a family issue over his late Mum’s estate last year which was very difficult. If we can sell and move that will be wonderful but if I have to stay where I am, I am only an hour away and at the beach so can’t really complain. xx

    You’re inspiring as always, with all the good things you are doing and your positive outlook – although I can imagine the latter is constant work for everyone. As you may understand, I know very well how much work it is to sell your house and move far away, but it’s so much worth it when you move to be where you really want to be, in your case closer to family. I wish you all the best and that it will all go smoothly.

    Hello Sue. There is so much to “be-ing,” isn’t there? I appreciate the way you’ve broken it out here. I’m eager to hear if you decide to move.
