BE-ing in March – WOTY Update

Be-ing in March – My 2022 WOTY Update

Well March is almost over and I can feel the mornings and evenings starting to cool down as Autumn approaches. We did swelter through a couple of very humid days early in the month, as Mother Nature wasn’t too keen on cooling down. This is my third monthly update so triple tick for me with consistency. Can you believe we are almost at the end of the first quarter of 2022 and so much has happened in that short time.

So here is my monthly update for my 2022 WOTY ‘BE’.

March was certainly roller-coaster ride for many, here in Australia and around the World. It seems, COVID has had to take a back seat with all the other devastating happenings around the globe.

Queensland and NSW experienced another ‘once in a 100 year flood’ (although it has only been 11 years since the last ‘once in a 100 year flood’ was declared). I am grateful that my family was not affected but so many lost their homes and coming after COVID I can’t believe the resilience of the human spirit.

We are reading about the atrocities happening as Russian invades Ukraine. The news and images are shocking and makes one feel helpless.

We have also read of recent celebrities in Australia who have died from heart attacks. Two were 52 and one 73 all too young but a sobering wake up call to all of us to check our health and also make each day count.

I wrote and discussed the feeling of ‘survivor guilt’ in podcast episode Overcoming guilt when life is going well for you. This was after a conversation I had with some friends who were all expressing their ‘guilt’ at how good life was for them at the moment.

Three friends joined me for a 30 day Fit and Fabulous Get Healthy ‘challenge’. We’ve all been feeling a little off track, yes even someone like me who is a Group Fitness Instructor and Marathon runner, can fall off a healthy lifestyle, especially when life gets in the way.

We have each set our goals for the 30 days with weekly goals and accountability to each other. We are working out together twice a week and doing our own form of exercise on other days.

It’s so much easier to try to achieve a goal when you are doing it with someone else. I love these ladies and we really support each other through good times and bad.

Our first workout together was certainly full of energy and enthusiasm so bring it on!

A surprise arrived in the mail from my good friend, Donna at Retirement Reflections. Her WOTY is Peace which is perfect for 2022 because the world certainly needs more, doesn’t it? Donna has started ‘The Travelling Book of Inner Peace’.

As Donna writes in her post “The hope is that you will read it, gain inspiration, and share it. When finished reading, please sign your name and city to the adjacent list and then pass it on. “

Mr M and I are considering moving back to be closer to family so major changes could be in the wind. We haven’t quite decided yet and it depends on certain factors, but I would say it is 99% going to happen. Change can be unsettling so we need to be flexible in our mindset as well as being flexible when home inspections from potential buyers are organised.

March 8 was International Women’s Day and this year the theme was #BreakTheBias . I endeavour to be proactive in trying to #BreakTheBias of Ageism and Stereotypes for Women Over 50. For my contribution I posted to social media and also recorded a podcast which you can listen to HERE. I also wrote a post for our What’s On your Bookshelf? link party: How Charlotte Bronte used writing to #BreakTheBias before it was a hashtag in 2022.

20th March is the UN International Day of Happiness, but with all that is happening in the world – war, COVID, floods, inequality and uncertainty, it is certainly difficult to feel happy isn’t it? In my post I shared some easy ways we can help others as well as ourselves.

BE-ing a Limb Dweller or a Trunk Dweller

Limb Dweller

Are you a limb dweller or trunk dweller? It doesn’t really matter as long as you are living your life your way.

My guest in conversation is the vivacious and energetic Sandy Stamato, A heart-centered business coach, Sandy has firsthand experience feeling like she wasn’t the typical, corporate 9-5 woman. In her 20s, she learned that as a limb dweller, of course she didn’t fit in. This knowledge was the foundation for her success both in the corporate world and as an entrepreneur.

Take a listen to the podcast and tell me what you are. I’ve decided I’m a limb dweller

A thought to live by – BE ………

Hi, Sue – Thank you for initiating this WOTY Link Up. I have already found it to be an excellent tool to keep me on track with my Word of the Year. I’m glad that you received and enjoyed The Travelling Book of Inner Peace. I am excited to discover where these three small books end up on their journeys. Your recent podcast was filled with excellent gems. Thank you for sharing Sandy with us!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:32

It has been a great idea, hasn’t it, Donna? I know I’ve been more aware of my WOTY focus. xx

  • Reply Debbie March 25, 2022 at 09:22

Hi Sue, this has been a great way to focus on our WOTY and a fabulous way to share our thoughts with others who also have a WOTY. I love your post and all your Be-ings through the month. The interview with Sandy was fabulous and your post on feeling guilty was spot on. Thanks for being YOU!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:33

It’s been a terrific idea Deb and I think we should continue it into 2023. Such a great way to focus on our WOTY and yes, Sandy was one of my favourites to interview, so full of life!

  • Reply Denyse Whelan Blogs March 25, 2022 at 11:01

So much for “BE-ing” being ‘easy’;…OK, no-one said it did they including Malcolm Fraser who said “life wasn’t meant to BE easy”. You have ticked some good self care boxes Sue and admitted to where you are not being completely aligned to your goals..and YES to this too. Because, we can fall down but we get back up again. I am learning this too for me. I know a ‘move’ BE-ing on the cards will have its moments but if the end goal is met, it will be worth it. Thank you to you and friends for this link up. Good to be kept accountable. Denyse. x

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:34

I know, Denyse it isn’t easy all the time is it? However, I’m loving the link up because it is a reminder for me to really think of my WOTY and how I’m living it. x

  • Reply leannelc March 25, 2022 at 12:37

Hi Sue – you’re certainly BE-ing a great example of how to live life well – and even with a potential house move in your future, you seem ready to embrace the next life change instead of worrying about it. Love all that you and the other 3 ‘girls’ are doing with your Zooming – so encouraging. x

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:35

Hi Leanne, yes, I’m certainly more aware of my WOTY this year. As for the move, if it happens, great, if not I’m lucky to live by the beach. x

  • Reply Janine March 25, 2022 at 14:58

Hi Sue – thank you for sharing your updates on your WOTY progress in March. You do such an amazing job of keeping healthy and fit. You are very inspirational and making me consider taking up running again. I haven’t quite got round to pulling on my trainers yet though. I think so many of us feel our healthy habits have fallen by the wayside through COVID. I loved your interview with Sandy – I think I might be a limb dweller! Good luck with your possible move. It’s always a hard decision but once we make a decision, life feels easier.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:36

Hi Janine and thank you for your lovely comment. Sandy was great and I know I’m a limb dweller after speaking with her. I’m sure you will get back into whatever exercise you love – because that is the key isn’t it? Doing what you enjoy x

  • Reply Jo March 25, 2022 at 15:22

I’m so glad you started this link up – it gives real focus to my monthly round-up. There’s a lot of be-ing in this post, and you’re also be-ing an inspiration to all of us. Thank you.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:37

Hi Jo, I’m happy I started it and am co-hosting with my Stunners. Personally, it has certainly helped keep me living my WOTY and thank you for your lovely comment about be-ing an inspiration. I know we all inspire each other. xx

This is a lovely wrap up post Sue. I enjoyed reading about the ways BE-ing showed up for you in the month. I’m so pleaseed you started this linkup. It is really keeping me focused and I’m loving reading how others are going with their WOTY.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:38

Hi Jen, I’m very happy that I created the WOTY and am really enjoying reading everyone’s posts each month to see what theyhave been doing to live their WOTY. I loved your happiness post this month especially around being able to visit the family in Noosa. xx

  • Reply rawsonjl March 25, 2022 at 20:55

Oh yes, friends and family can be wonderful for helping us stay accountable to our healthy goals can’t they? I used to share a Wellness Wednesday post on my blog that kept me accountable and I’ve been thinking a lot about getting back to that. Good luck with the move if it happens…and I think knowing flexibility is key is really important in keeping that stress down.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:39

Hi Joanne, we are on the same page. I used to have a Wellness Wednesday post each week and have been thinking o re-introducing it and maybe as a link up. Would you be interested in linking up if I started one? x

Hi Sue! That picture of you in the pink shirt is amazing–you are so fit and an amazing testament to how women can be fit well past 50. I’m struggling with my weight now: foot surgery in 2019, covid shutdowns of gyms in 2020 into 21 and then moving have all take their toll on my keeping on track with both exercise and eating right. But I’m off to my monthly WW weight in (aargh), to face the music and get on with my life. BE-ing is what I also strive for and I enjoy my daily WALKs for exercise and contemplation. I have been feeling more anxiety lately and it makes sense that I’m feeling that “survivor” guilt in my world while Europe struggles with their very lives. I’m excited to read that you are moving to be closer to family…you will always have the beach, but family is more important. That is the main reason we moved from California as well. Thank you for the link party and as soon as I get back from my meeting I’ll check out more posts!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 27, 2022 at 15:41

Oh Terri, I’m sorry you’ve had all of those struggles at once but knowing you, you will overcome them. I loved your post about your WOTY Walk this month it was so helpful. I also feel we are all feeling anxious. Mike and I are still recovering mentally from a family issue over his late Mum’s estate last year which was very difficult. If we can sell and move that will be wonderful but if I have to stay where I am, I am only an hour away and at the beach so can’t really complain. xx

      • Reply Terri Webster Schrandt March 27, 2022 at 23:47

Thank you Sue! Living at the beach but still just an hour from family is pretty darn cool! I also know you will make that work in your favor, whatever the outcome.

  • Reply Susanne March 27, 2022 at 21:13

You’re inspiring as always, with all the good things you are doing and your positive outlook – although I can imagine the latter is constant work for everyone. As you may understand, I know very well how much work it is to sell your house and move far away, but it’s so much worth it when you move to be where you really want to be, in your case closer to family. I wish you all the best and that it will all go smoothly.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 4, 2022 at 09:57

Thanks so much for your good wishes Susanne. My attitude will be if we sell that’s great if we stay that’s okay too. xx

  • Reply Christie Hawkes March 28, 2022 at 07:29

Hello Sue. There is so much to “be-ing,” isn’t there? I appreciate the way you’ve broken it out here. I’m eager to hear if you decide to move. That will be a big change and will require a flexible mindset for sure. Good luck to you with that major decision and all aspects of “be-ing” in the coming months.

  • Reply Marsha Ingrao April 2, 2022 at 15:35

Sue, being is a big goal for the year, but you are managing it beautifully.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 4, 2022 at 09:53

Thanks so much Marsha! So many ways to incorporate ‘Be-ing’ in our day x
