I announced my 2022 WOTY on 2nd January in my podcast episode and blog post Just ‘Be’ – Living Life Your Way in 2022. After a turbulent 2021 for Mr M and I, I wanted to start enjoying life again and the tiny but powerful word ‘BE’ kept coming back to me as my word to focus on during 2022.
Whilst out for a run, I decided to create a monthly 2022 WOTY link party co-hosted with my blogging friends, Debbie, Donna and Jo who were keen to join in. This is in addition to our monthly What’s On Your Bookshelf Link Party which is every 3rd Thursday pm (northern hemisphere) or Friday am (southern hemisphere). Come join us and share what books you have been reading.
The 2022 WOTY Link Party is a way for us to stay accountable to our WOTY (or Goals or Intentions if you haven’t settled on a particular Word for the Year) and write about how we are tracking each month on the last Thursday PM (Northern Hemisphere)/ Last Friday AM (Southern Hemisphere). We would still encourage everyone to leave a comment or if you have written a post feel free to link up with us.
Welcome to the very first 2022 WOTY Link Party and you can find the link at the end of this post.

Don’t forget to copy the #2022wotylinkparty contributor badge at the end of the post.
Be-ing in January – My 2022 WOTY Update
I love these wrap up posts because it makes me look back and reflect on my month. January was pretty good and I think I’ve started the year well with my focus of ‘BE’. For me it is all about BE-ing so I’m sharing the different was I was living life my way BE-ing in the moment and in life. After an extremely stressful and emotional 2021 , Mr M and I are both now in a good place and ready to take on the new year.
BE-ing HEALTHY
January started well after indulging in all the Festive Goodies. I returned to taking sessions in the Strong Healthy Women Virtual Studio, running with my Saturday Sister, walking with Mr M and trying to eat healthier.
My darling Mr M
BE-ing SOCIAL
Never too old for Date days
On New Year’s Day, Mr M and I had a discussion on what we wanted from 2022. After a very difficult 2021, we wanted to start living life again in this New Year. Our love of travel has been curtailed for the moment due to COVID, however that doesn’t mean we can discover our own backyard.
One of our ideas was to take a regular drive (hopefully weekly) and visit places that aren’t far from where we live. A short drive, enjoying time together and exploring.
Our first adventure for 2022 was a visit to Hinze Dam which is about 30 minutes drive from where we live on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It is so easy to say, ‘oh let’s not bother’ but life is too short so we seized the moment. It was so relaxing taking a wander and was the perfect spot to indulge in an ice cream! The power of the water was awe-inspiring.

Cooking with BookClub
My readers will know that I belong to an Online Book Club and for 2021 we worked our way through the Bronte Sisters collection. At the end of each book, one of our members (who is an author who loves to bake – there’s a clue there), provides us with a recipe which would be something relevant to the area or book. We then gather in our kitchens via Zoom in our special aprons (yes professional looking aren’t we?) and led by our resident baker who takes us through our baking class. It is such fun and so far my efforts haven’t been too bad.

We baked Yorkshire Parkin, which was pretty easy to make and you can find the recipe and learn what Yorkshire Parkin over at Jo’s Brookford Kitchen Diaries website so just click HERE
BE-ing a Nan
School holiday fun

I just love being a Nan (although you probably have guessed that by now!). My grandsons are a constant source of joy and I look forward to my weekly visits to spend time with them. They help me to BE PRESENT in the moment and BE adventurous because they think their Nan can do anything!
BE-ing BOLD & BE-AUTIFUL

I felt BOLD and BE–autiful as I reflected on for #Bloganuary prompt – ‘What does it mean to live Boldly’?
It was Saturday morning here on the Gold Coast and shaping up for a gorgeous day. Mr M and I decided to go for a walk, to soak up the sun, the salty seabreeze and of course get some exercise. It was one of those days when you just had to get outside and enjoy the power of nature, sunshine, blue skies and ocean.
I decided to wear my BOLD purchase of my Rockwear Hot Pink Top and Bike pants which I had bought in December but hadn’t had the courage to actually wear outside. You couldn’t miss me in me in my brightly coloured ensemble. #beingboldafter60
This prompted me to write BE-ing BOLD after 60 – but don’t wait that long!
I also thought I was pretty bold borrowing my daughter’s colourful rashie to be sunsmart when I took my grandsons swimming.

BE-ing APPRECIATIVE
So much to be grateful for during January and in particular was receiving a surprise gift from a very good friend who lives on the other side of the world to me. I had spent to fun but tiring days with my grandsons (always on the go!) and arrived home to a huge package! I was blown away by my friend’s generosity of spirit and love. Maggie Beer Hampers are full of goodies to eat and also included a robe and body wash for some pampering. I often give them as gifts and it is always special to receive one.
My last Podcast episode for January was BE-ing Appreciative by Playing the Appreciation game. During January, I took part in a 21 day Manifesting challenge presented by Gabby Bernstein. Day 10 brought another interesting topic to ponder and also coincided with the Day 10 prompt for #Bloganuary to list 5 things we are grateful for today. Day 10 was Playing the Appreciation Game which I hadn’t hear of before.
BE-ing PROUD

I love my podcast and feel proud of my achievement as I procrastinated with self-doubt before finally pushing the GO LIVE button on Episode 1. 75 Episodes later and I can tick another box off my bucket list. My goal is to help Women Over 50 live life their way and introducing my thoughts and those of my guests to inspire women to live the life they want and deserve. Thanks to all of you who have supported and continue to support my dream. Here is the link to all the Episodes so far

I love that final though – be the sunshine… We have so many roles (wife, grandmother, etc) but there’s a difference to having those roles and BE’ING them. And that’s what I love about your WOTY.
I’m growning into my WOTY, Jo and had this quote from Day 1 in a draft post LOL:) I’m really enjoying reading everyone’s January WOTY post and the link up appears to be a hit! xx
All these posts are inspiring me to really put my word to use! You have done a great job Be-ing this month.
Hi Joanne, having the link party has created a focus to actually ‘live my word’. In the past, I’ve had words and some years I’ve lived them, yet other years life has taken over. I’m happy with how my year has started though and hopefully February will bring more opportunities to BE. Have a lovely weekend and thanks for stopping by. xx
Hi Sue – great to see all you’ve been up to over January – loved your date drive with Mike and the fun you’ve had with the grandsons. That rashie was very pretty. I don’t have my Jan wrap up post published until next Monday so don’t have anything to share – February looks more hopeful in that regard!
Hi Leanne, I sent you a message to say the link is open until 8pm Monday Brisbane time, so come and link up when you have published your post. You would be very welcome xx
Sounds like January has been a great month of BEing you, Sue. The decision to make small day trips together is a great one. We did that weekly when we were in covid leave for a year. It kept us sane and was great for our relationship. Thanks for having the idea of #2022wotylinkparty
Hi Jen, it has been a good start to our year and I wondered if BE would be restrictive but yet again I’ve shown myself that there are many options for me to explore. Thanks for joining us for the link up and I really enjoyed your Happiness post. xx
HI, Sue – Thank you so much for initiating this linkup. It was a brilliant idea. I am feeling very inspired after reading about everyone’s different WOTY’s and how they are gaining focus and inspiration from them.
There is such wisdom in this post. I love how you are committed to “BE” in the moment. You’re so right that it is easy to say “oh, let’s not bother”. But life is definitely way to short for that. I greatly look forward to following this WOTY-inspired-adventure with you! So glad that we are friends.
This is a great way to start the year Sue and your word of Be is just perfect. I love the way you have included it in so many ways. That last quote about being the sunshine is just you to a T! Thanks for the great idea of the linkup party, it’s so good reading about how others are using their WOTY to help focus on life, as you are showing us so well.
Hi Sue, Looks like January has BEen a BEautiful month for you. Congratulations on your podcast achievements! I love your smiles in your photos. They made me smile, too. Keep BEing you and the sunshine! Thank you for hosting the WOTY link party. I added my post. Have a wonderful week!
Hi Natalie, I’m so pleased to cohost the WOTY Link Party as it helps us all to focus on our WOTY, our goals or intentions. I look forward to reading your post and thanks in advance for linking up. xx
Thank you Sue for linking up with #weekendcoffeeshare.
Thanks for hosting, Natalie! x
I don’t have a work of the year but it’s always interesting to see what people choose. I think to be content with just being who you are is an achievement. There’s so much noise to distract us from that. Nice post!! Love the Maggie beers gift! #WeekendCoffeeShare
I’m loving reading what others have come up with Lydia. Some are so creative. I wasn’t going to do one this year but a word kept coming to me so I went with it. The hamper I received was so beautiful and I felt a warmth inside to know that someone was thinking of me and went to all that effort. x
Hi Sue, I loved your post and seeing how you are living out your word of the year in BEing. Such inspiring words and challenging me to be more aware of being more intentional and focused on my word of the year RECLAIM. I spent so much of last year focusing on my hubby and his physical and mental health needs that I lost myself. So I am reclaiming myself and living with more intention and taking time to quietly meditate and journal, pray and give myself little treats and looking after my physical and emotional health. I have just had my booster jab, full checkup and blood tests and ecg. I was also asked to take part in a heart health study which I have done. So I am finding more balance in caring for hubby while not losing myself but being deliberate about taking me time.
Chris x
Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to visit and comment. I think RECLAIM is an excellent choice, especially for you as I know your ‘back story’. I look forward to hearing how you are reclaiming your life in future months. xx
Hi Sue, Your word “BE” has given me lots of food for thought. As you indicate, you can go in many directions with this word and it has a zen quality to it – especially after your stressful year.
I love the photo of you and “My darling Mr M.” My husband and I are also great proponents of Date days. We wonder whether it is easier to just stay around our home, yet we are always glad we went out to explore.
I love all the beautiful smiles in the baking class. Wonderful photos throughout this post. I am smiling at all.😊
You are always a beautiful spirit, Sue, and a wonderful inspiration to all that have the privilege of knowing you. I am honoured to “BE” your friend.xx❤️
Thank you lovely Erica. It was fun to look back at January and to see if I had lived my WOTY. I am honoured that you are my friend too. We are a mutual admiration society. Sending love and hugs xx
I love how ideas come to us as yours did. Great idea. I hope to BE contributing a post in the future but with my goal of doing less and being more…I shall see. I did get myself over-tired last year from DOING too much. Your post is a great one, Sue and I am particularly loving that you and your Mr are spending time together away from home and all the stuff that can take us from the essence of who we are. You are a loving couple and time together is like gold in the vault of memories. Thanks for the link up and letting me know about it as you did. That was very considerate. Denyse
I hope to see you link up when you can Denyse. No pressure but you are always welcome. xx
Great post, and it answered one of my questions, which was if you entered one, are you entering all of them. I see that is the case. That’s so awesome. You look fabulously fit, by the way. Wish some of us luck as we aim in that direction.
That must have been interesting visiting the dam. I have a weird fascination for dams – maybe because of the power of the water. Your book club cooking group looks like a happy and cheerful bunch!
Glad to see you’ve had a good start of 2022 and with Be-ing. Have a great week!
It was interesting Susanne and the first time I had visited. There are several outside of Brisbane which we are going to visit as well. The power of the water falling is spectacular. x
You rocked that hot pink! And you’re right about date days and how easy it is to skip out on seeing what’s in your own backyard.
Thanks so much Janet. WE had a horrible 2021 with a family issue regarding my MIL’s Estate. We lost so much time with worry and anxiety it was definitely time to start living again now that it has all been settled. x
I am so glad you decided to go to the Hinze Dam and that the drive was worth it. Overall, it sounds like you did quite well with your WOTY.
Hi Astrid, it was such a lovely drive and quality time spent with my husband. WE are planning our next ‘date day’. x
What a great month of “Be-ing” you had Sue. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have to agree you rocked the hot pink. And good for you and Mr. M on getting out more, both walking and visiting new places together. Enjoy!
Hi Christie, it was a good month when I reflect on my WOTY. I’m so pleased that you joined us for our WOTY Link Party it is lovely to connect with you again. xx
People have come up with so many great WOTY and your idea for a monthly review is terrific! I love your word and you’ve made an admirable Be-ginning! I really like how you were able to embed the individual blog links right on your website rather than having to click on the blue button to see them.
I’ve loved reading everyone’s take on WOTY, Janis and I’m so pleased that we have the Link Party to share with each other. I’ve made a good start to living my WOTY and the challenge is to keep it going when life gets in the way. x
Sue, you look beautiful in your bright pink ensemble! You look healthy and happy. Such great photos, of the dam, of being a nan. Great celebration of life.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Rebecca. I’m very grateful for the blessings in my life. Thanks for visiting and it is lovely to connect with you. x
Good to get to know you too!
So fun to read Sue. Sounds like your January was awesome. I like your link party idea..that could be fun to join in on. I’ll have to see how my months look and if I can get a post in. How fun to cook together too. That would be awesome.
We had a great January, thanks Kirstin. I love writing these types of post because it forces me to reflect on what I did during the month and I am usually pleasantly surprised with what I remember. x
